Michigan State c/o 2017 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Housing:

DTN management is the biggest housing company around here. You can check out their website to see prices/locations. http://www.dtnmgt.com

I lived at Abbot Place during undergrad and loved it. It's a little pricey, but the rooms are furnished and they paid for my bus pass, but not pet friendly. http://abbottpl.com/

I live in a DTN community right now and will next year, too. A lot of cvm students live in College Towne, which is a 10 minute drive from the school and pet friendly. My apartment is $326/month including cable and internet, and I live with 3 other people. http://www.dtnmgt.com/lansing/college-towne-east/

Chandler Crossings is also a big complex and some of the buildings are pet friendly.

Anybody know if today is the last day MSU will be sending out acceptances??

I second that!

I'm also wondering if anyone OOS who has been accepted could PM me their stats so I could know if I stand any chance whatsoever?

Merci!

Unfortunetly, I dont think knowing their stats would really help us since the adcoms give people discretionary points based on our MSU essays and VMCAS stuff :/ I thought of asking people to do that too 🙁

If you go through my "what are my chances?" post, you'll see my stats. I am a little different though in that I think my background is what upped my SIS score. My grades weren't the best and may even be lower than average.

kinda off topic but I will most likely be giving up my OOS seat next week since I got my IS! Hope that helps those waiting!

I haven't heard anything good or bad yet. I know of some people who have gotten rejections by mail and obviously people are getting accepted, so I'm trying really hard to hope I'm on the waitlist, but I'm quickly losing whatever hope I have left.

Some people have already received rejections? When were those received? I'm assuming for now that no news is good news? In one of you previous posts, it did say in the response you received from the school that more acceptances would be sent out until February, so don't give up hope yet! 🙂

This week by snailmail. I guess I still have a bit of a chance, but it seems like so far a lot of people from SDN have been accepted, especially considering OOS spots. :/

I just checked my mail and haven't received anything from any veterinary school, so I take that as a good sign. If things are the same as last year, more people should hear back on Fridays throughout January and February. I wouldn't worry too much until either mid-February or you get a rejection.

Thanks Twisted. 🙂 Congratulations to everyone who got offers!!!!!!!!! Perfect opportunity to celebrate tonight!

PS. Sorry if my posts were driving you nuts, I was having a minor panic attack lolz.

I am in the same boat as you! I have heard nothing from any of my schools, so I am glad that I am not alone in this loooong waiting process. fingers crossed!

For current students at Michigan, if you are stalking this thread: what are some motivations for choosing Michigan as an OOS student despite its pricey tuition? I don't have an IS option right now, but I also have interviews at other schools like Ohio and Purdue, which (if I get in) would be much cheaper than Michigan as far as OOS tuition goes.

Thanks!

I have officially declined my seat at Michigan. Tough choice! Good luck to those still waiting!

Ummm so this is going to sound extremely selfish and egocentric but....I really hope I get the spot you opened up!

Thank you for being one of those awesome people that doesn't wait until April 15th to decide! <3

Tomorrow marks two weeks from the last round of acceptance emails and it's FRIDAY!!!!

It's times like these that I wish I had an iPhone so I could continuously update my email.

Perhaps I'm getting excited over nothing, but...gird your loins folks!

Sorry if I freak everyone out.

Just had a huge coffee.

Having an iphone makes this process MUCH harder.......I look like a psycho checking it every 3 minutes.... Ok, maybe every 2 minutes 😉 Either way, I'd love to hear from MSU tomorrow!!

You mean every 30 seconds, right? 😉

I didnt want to sound too desperate 😉 (But it is every 30 seconds!)

I was browsing the website, and I found some information that may be useful for anyone still waiting for a decision. The website confirmed that acceptances will be sent out biweekly until mid-March by e-mail and snail mail. Rejections and alternates will be notified in mid-March through snail mail.

For those of you who are coming to the Welcome Days and want a tour of main campus MSU or East Lansing, let me know and I can tell you where to go..or I can show you around!

I would like a tour of the campus! I signed up for the March 8th Welcome Days. What goes on that day? Will we be able to sit in on a class?
Thank you!!

March 8th is spring break and I won't be around🙁. I would recommend not going during spring break, because you won't get to see the cool stuff that goes on in anatomy and see how the students interact.

Is there classes going on March 1st? What places in town should I visit if there's time? Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, that is the day before spring break and we have an exam.
On campus, you can check out the stadium, the museum, Beaumont Tower, the Union, and the Dairy Store at Anthony Hall. In downtown East Lansing, there are a lot of bars, the nicer ones being Harper's and PT's (they are very close to each other and are not hard to find), and a fun one is Crunchy's (my fav with karaoke!). We have a lot of chain restaurants in the East Lansing/ Lansing area. You can walk up and down Grand River Ave across from campus and check out all of the spirit shops and other local shops and places to eat. There is a zoo (if you are interested in exotics or zoo med) in Lansing off Pennsylvania Ave, and it's less than a 10 minute drive from campus.

Psilovethomas, are you familiar with the ATA program? I will be going to Michigan Feb 15th for it and it said that we will be spending the day learning about the college, the curriculum and the faculty. Do you think that if I attend that I should still go to a welcome day?

I've never heard about the ATA program..

Thank you! I have to go this day because of my schedule I wish I could change the day. I will look around the campus and I am also going to the open house and I went to the open house last year.
Thank you!

Isn't today an acceptance Friday?!

I've got my fingers crossed for some good news! Has anyone heard anything yet today?
