Michigan State c/o 2019 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Have you emailed/called them at all?
No...I suppose I could suck it up and do it. I just know I'm going to end up sounding bad. "Hi! My names pinkpuppy9. Last year, you guys had me hanging by a thread for months and rejected me at the last possible second (sorta). Will that be happening again this year, or can you just tell me where I stand now?"

I mean, even if I'm waitlisted, that's an accomplishment in my book. I'd just like to know sooner rather than wait. Last year, I had a feeling they knew where I stood the entire time. I never did ask why they waited so long....

When I interviewed they asked us to refrain from calling until the second week of March. I still haven't heard anyhing from them since my interview so if I don't hear, I will be calling March 9th haha

Oh geez they didn't tell my group that! I'm glad you said something. I'll go ahead and wait then as well.

Yeah I think the only reason why she told us that is because a lot of people from my group went up and asked when we would hear so she just made a general announcement to everyone

I got an acceptance email yesterday but just saw it this morning! I'm so excited! I was rejected from my IS in the first round, so it's nice to get accepted somewhere! I also interviewed 2/14 in the Red group.

Your puppy is so cute!! What state are coming from? I am wondering if we met on interview day.

Thanks, she was pretty adorable! I'm from northern Indiana. If we were in the same tour group, I'm pretty sure I was the only person from Indiana so we might've met?

I was in a navy suit, brown hair with classes. My name is Jamie Lynn. Anyway I am super excited for you. Congrats. Are you bringing your dog to school with you? I'm bringing my pups 🙂

I think I remember seeing you! I probably won't bring any of my pets with me at first, but I still need to decide if I'm going to accept the offer. The OOS tuition is a lot to think about!

I am going to be looking for some roommates 1-2 for a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house. The house is currently being built so it will be move in ready. The house is about 13 minutes from the CVM. It does have a garage.
Rent is around 575 per month. This includes all utilities including internet and lawn care. I do have a husky mix who will be living with me. If you want to bring your fur Baby I am open to it. If you would like more details please message me🙂

Thanks!

Jamie lynn

@Jlsolg

This is a public internet forum. Anyone can come through here and see things. It would be a very wise idea if you remove both your email address and phone number from the above post. Anyone could see those and start calling/spamming you. If people are interested have them send you a personal message on SDN.

Thanks! I did not know that 🙂

So has a facebook group already been started yet? I've looked but haven't come up with anything.

They did both last year with the students making one initially and then MSU making an official one. Is that your pug on your profile pic? I have a black one, can't get enough of them.

Yup, that's my baby in a cow costume 🙂 They are definitely the best dogs. I'm thinking of getting another to keep her company when I am in school all day, if funds will allow of course.

They are really pretty amazing dogs! I'd have another pug but my SO really wants a golden retriever, so we might settle on a cat if the pug allows it (Because lets be honest it's not really our choice).

Congratulations to everyone accepted thus far! Like Allieoop said, feel free to PM either one of us if you have any questions. We were both in your shoes this time last year.

I got antsy and I called again. I was told that they've sent out very few acceptances and that they're not done making final decisions. The earliest they anticipate being finished is March 11th. If you still haven't heard from them, hang in there. I'm in the same boat and I know how much it sucks to wait for our futures to be decided. 😛

As for those that have already gotten in, congrats! If you decide that you'd rather go to another school or if you still haven't gotten into MSU and you already know you'll be attending your IS school, please please please let MSU know as soon as possible so those of us still waiting have a chance to hear sooner.

Now excuse me while I go hibernate til March.

Thank you so much for posting this!!! It makes me feel a whole lot better! Now to continue waiting....

edit** I take back the comment about giving up my spot. Due to recent changes, my decision is not so clear-cut anymore.

I've not heard anything, but I have been accepted to Illinois, and will be pulling my app from MSU

I will also say, do NOT let anyone push you into making a decision about giving up a spot. It is yours until April 15th! Trying to sway people to pull their application is rude and selfish.

No one is trying to bully people in declining a spot. It's common sense that, if you know you won't take the acceptance, to let the school know asap. Unfortunately, some people just don't communicate at all and let April 15th roll by and force the schools to give their spot to someone else, even though they knew the whole time they weren't taking it. I'd like to think most people are pretty good of about that, but that's not always the case.

Please note that I specifically said "if you already know." When has anyone here said "hey make your decision right now"? I'm not swaying anyone or telling anyone to give up their spots. It was a reminder that if they ALREADY decided, that it'd be kind for them to let MSU know. If someone already knows that they're going somewhere else and they don't say anything to MSU, those that are potentially on the waitlist have to wait months more to hear back. That is being selfish and rude.

you are 1000% correct Felixor90!

Regardless of whether you have made your decision or not, it is your choice to sit on that acceptance until April 15th. You do not know what opportunities may come along that could cause you to change your mind and I would hate for someone to feel pressured to immediately give up their spot and later regret that decision.

no one is pressuring anyone but if someone has made their decision, be courteous and let the school know for those sitting on the wait list.

Again you say that I'm pressuring people into giving up their spots. Can you please point out where in my posts I told people they should or have to give up their spot? At this point you're just sounding like you want to cause drama. I'm not pressuring anybody so kindly refrain from saying that I am.

Hey guys, no need to get so defensive. Bam15 didn't mention/quote anybody I think he's just saying "in general" don't let someone talk you out of an opportunity and I totally agree with that.

I may have misread the situation but i don't think Bam15 was referring to you specifically but people in general. I think it goes without saying that declaring nom-attendance is courteous for any invited events such as weddings, parties, grad school etc. Anyways I thought it was interesting how defensive this whole situation became.

For the sake of clarity, I am not calling anyone out, nor am I claiming that anyone has said something they should not have. I am just respectfully stating, for anyone who is in that boat, that it should be their choice and only their choice to rescind their application. Your priority, as an applicant, should be first and foremost your academic success and career goals.

I think we are all violently agreeing. If you made your decision, then tell your other schools. If you are uncertain, wait. If you want to wait and see what all your options are then wait.

Yup, I agree. I thought I for sure was going to give up my spot (but not because I felt pressured to give it up by anyone here). Then I found out new info that made me hesitate giving it up, so now I am going to do more soul-searching and financial planning to make absolutely sure.

Anyone heard anything recently. I interviewed 2/13 and haven't heard anything besides a survey invitation.

A friend of mine who interviewed the first weekend in January still hasn't heard, but I got my acceptance last Friday. I think they finish sending out decisions the second week of March.

I know right, that was basically two weeks on wages gone! Oh well, worth it!

Is there a Facebook group yet?

Does anyone know how many in-staters applied/interviewed this year?

For those who are still waiting to hear anything like me, I just called the admissions office and apparently they are making final decisions this Wednesday, and all the decisions should be sent out next Monday at the latest.
