Midwestern, Glendale 2012 class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
none of you guys are living on campus right since you have residence around school.

Nope, not the plan here.

Did the mention the campus have a time restraint? can we go to gym anytime?

You can get into any of the buildings with your badge 24 hours. I didn't ask specifically about the gym, but since you'd use your badge to access, I can't imagine you would have a problem. I asked during the tour when we were at the library.

The ~$600 on campus also includes all the utilities (including internet) except electric. It's maybe a little more expensive than what I could find a single for, but I haven't checked in that pocket up by MWU.

Splitting a double at MWU works out to $380 per student. Just sayin'.

Housing info is on the website now, but I think they said January to apply in my interview. I think there's some in the packet, too.

Having had doubles and even triples all through out college, I feel that it's not a good environment for studying. Or maybe it's because my roommate and I talked too much. o_o Either way, definitely not going to risk it in pharmacy school. 😀

Isn't renting a room in a house close to the same thing? 😉

ETA: I've never lived on campus, so maybe I'm using the wrong term. There's a "2 bedroom" floor plan at MWU where the second bedroom could be a den if you decide not to split with a room mate.

to be honest, when i heard $600 for one bedroom and free parking. I fell in love with Midwestern. No need to say more. If it's a 24 hr gym then thats icing on the cake

No, because in a house, you always have the option of going into your room and shutting the door. People won't barge into your room to talk to you and if they do, you can always ask them to leave. That and there are locks for every room and in this manner, you can choose when you want to socialize. On the other hand, there is no physical barrier when you share a room with someone else. Also, your sleeping habits may be very different from your roommate's. Luckily, my sleeping habit was similar to my roommate's but we often spent an ENTIRE night talking to each other which is partially why my grades were so terrible Freshman year. Yep...can't do that in pharm school.

you get your own room for apartments on campus.
And maybe you just talk too much!

Was randomly browsing campus events, how come IL campus gets a halloween party and Glendale doesn't? That sucks.

Congrats on the interview invitation!

Boo. I'm still on hold. 🙁 It has been over a month now.
I am in the same boat. I have decided that I need to pull the strings I have to get an interview! I just hope it isn't a wait clear til the end of the application cycle before they let us know. I did email them and they said they do continuously review hold applications and will notify the student if they are denied.

Yeah, it's different with the housing at MWU - they're full apartments, so you have that option there too. The floor plans are available on the web. I was misusing "doubles" to mean something more like "double occupancy apartment," not "double sad you're in my face dorm room."

Haha yah, I think we just had a misunderstanding. The word "roommate" can be used to imply either living in a room together or living in a apartment together. I assumed the foremost and you assumed the latter. Wasn't that one of the interview questions? Describe a situation in which you had a misunderstanding? lol

Halloween party would be awesome.

Can you link the floor plan? I can't seem to find it anywhere no matter how I googled.

Mine was mailed on the 3rd as well. I got my supplemental app request on the 10 and did it the same day.
The next day I checked my portal again and had the interview invitation. I never got an email telling me it was there, but that may be because I scheduled my interview immediately. I scheduled on the 11th and I was given the choice of this friday (10/21), or the following monday. I imagine if I couldn't make either of those very soon dates I could have pushed it back further.

Was your application complete when pharmcas mailed it? were you waiting for PCAT scores or any of your references?

My application was complete. On the 10th, the status changed to revised. Per PharmCAS and responses to this message, it seems as though my application, or at least parts of it, went to turnitin.com before being send to midwestern.

Did your "school designations" on PharmCAS change to "revised" at any point from the 3rd to the 10th?

Nope, I haven't had any changes in my "school designations" at all.
I also didn't have the turnitin thing you mentioned. I don't know what that is ??

Yeah I just looked at mine and it was changed to mailed/revised. I don't know when though.

Turnitin is just something schools use to make sure you're not plagiarizing your essays. 🙂

Thanks Panda. I missed that somewhere along the line.
Doesn't look like they sent mine through them.
I do have a somewhat unique writing style though...

I believe they send all essays through Turnitin. My sneaking suspicion is that only the most recent batch (the ones mailed 10/3) were slow to receive back scores and/or a system issue mailed them before the score was received. I really don't think anyone was singled out.

IDK, I "signed" the technical agreement on 9/30 & the matriculation agreement on 10/4 (when it became available) and paid my deposit on 10/4. They've already got 2 of my 3 transcripts & I've signed up for my last prereq. I'm a little excited.

MWU Trivia #1: Before we bought the land for our campus in Glendale in 1994, it was a lemon orchard and a dump site for old refrigerators and tires. In fact, the entire block on both sides of 59th Avenue was filled with lemon orchards. We still own and maintain the orchard across the street at Utopia, and MWU students, faculty, and staff are welcome to pick the lemons.

I was wondering about that orchard.

So you said you are planning to live on campus? I thought you're from Arizona. Not near school?

You need to call them then and explain this. If you just let it expire, then your slot will be closed....Remember, in the opening discussion they stated that communication is vital to this process...They will work with you,but they have to be informed!

Yeah, but he has until Oct 21, at least according to my letter.

Need a screen shot of it?

I only opened one floor plan b/c I don't want to download the rest. You can see the rest when you pay the deposit. 😀 The floor plan I opened is for the 613 sq. ft. (Buildings E & F) studio apartment. More expensive than I initially suspected but nothing out of the ordinary.

How long does MWU give you to put your deposit down after the acceptance date?

Is there any need to bring anything with me to the interview like a notepad and pen or somethin?

I brought a folio pad with me because it looks professional but you really don't need anything.
Sort of a pain to hold and walk around lol

Sweet thx 🙂

Is there anything to do in the area since I'll pretty much have all day tomorrow of doing nothing? If not I supposed I could review the interview feedback again 😴

To me, reviewing sdn interview questions actually psych me out. I usually don't look at them closely until few hours before interview if it's not at 7am.

When I was there I didn't do anything since I'm from out of town nor did I have a car. If you have a car, plethora of opportunities.

I don't know if I can handle being psyched out anymore than I already am. This intense combo of nervousness and excitment is about all I can take :scared:
I've gone over the feedback a few dozen times and went through the last years thread but I can't help but feel like I'm still unprepared. Since I know I won't be able to sleep I guess I'll go over the feedback a few more times

I think there's only so much you can do in terms of preparation. In fact, I believe too much preparation might make you sound rehearsed. You'll be okay! I couldn't sleep that well the night before either but everything turned out fine.

I JUST PAID MY DEPOSIT!!!

Sorry I'm very excited!! I cant believe to took to this point to finally hit me that I'm going to be a professional!!! WOOT

I just paid my deposit too!! I'm really excited :soexcited: I've been too busy to keep up on this forum as much as I'd like to but I'm glad to see people talking about housing! It's been on my mind too.. the on campus housing sounds like a great deal but didn't they say there's only enough room for 10% of students?? That's not high enough probability for me to rely on... so, AZ locals, any advice on housing? "Bad" parts of town that one should avoid? Or any "good" parts that would be best to live?

Hello hello!

I kinda want to know what's fun to do around school, in case of the rare chance we get to relax a little.
