I was wondering how the committee views minority students at Cornell? I went to Cornell for undergrad and know they are all about diversity. I was wondering if it's the same for vet school. In addition, how many minority students are accepted into Cornell each year on average? Thanks! 🙂

I don't know about statistics, but I applied to 10 schools last year and was accepted to all of them (including Cornell). I am a double whammy for minority, as I am a racial minority as well as a male. I did get the impression while at Cornell that they really aim for a super duper diverse class in all senses. Personally, I think it is better to attend a veterinary school that is not where you did your undergrad. You will meet a lot more people and get a different perspective on the world for the next four years.

10/10..that's amazing! is being a male considered in the application process? since a lot of schools list those stats on their websites, I have always wondered, but worried that it would come off wrong if blatantly asked. A lot of older male veterinarians have told me, hands down, that I have a better chance being male. but the numbers don't seem to support that claim, so I've basically ignored it.

There are schools which actually tell you they are trying to get more males in to the profession. When I interviewed, Michigan State and Western bluntly said that. Then again, I applied in 2002-2003 academic year.

I was curious about the Male Minority question as well - From the stats provided by Miss State, it seems that ROUGHLY the same % of males that app'ed were accepted - iirc, about 25-30% male in class of 2013 - but don't quote me on that. Tell you one thing, 'we' are outnumbered 😉 but it makes for an interesting dichotomy.

seeing as Michigan State (IS) and Western are my #1 and #2 schools, that sounds pretty good to me right now. 'we' are definitely a minority in that sense, and being a white male, I never thought I'd say that . I've heard that the national ratio (for schools) is ~ 1m:4f (not sure, but I think I read that on this board)
