Hello, Everyone,

I am an applicant for the residency match 2008. When I submitted my CAF, I mentioned a volunteer experience at a non-profit clinic that I had started for a month, and then left off with the permission of the supervisors because I was undergoing very busy rotations. After my rotations were over, I could not assume the work because they found someone else and were not very good with responding to email/phone.

Now I cannot modify the CAF since its already been submitted, but I am worried about credential verification and don't want to seem like a fraud.
This experience was pretty small and insignificant ( I listed it as 'volunteer' ) I just wish I could just remove it, but I don't want to inform the programs right now.

What should I do to prevent any misunderstandings, and what would be the best time to inform the program without decreasing my competitiveness?

Just send a note to the PD and explain. It's really not a big deal at all. I don't know about other programs, but I know we don't go through every volunteer experience and verify their legitimacy. I'd be very surprised if anyone ever checks them, in fact, unless it's something big and there is a question about its believability (like say you were Clinton's campaign advisor, or something equally less plausible).

That makes me feel better. Thanks!

I hate to tell you this, but it may withdraw you from the match process for this year and black mark you for the future. Mater fact it can cross your future medical career completely . If I were you I would withdraw my application or just wouldn't response for the invitation for the interviews this year, and apply next year again with honest application.

Wow. I hope you have a really dry sense of humor and are just joking. OP, honestly, I don't see what the problem is. You wrote about a volunteer experience that you were involved in at the time and now, despite your best effort, has ended. I can't see where you were dishonest about anything. Really, I don't think it deserves mention to the PD or anyone else. Forget about it and move on, I'm sure you've got enough to worry about.

I feel that this is so inconsequential I would not bother to do anything at this point. If by some remote chance someone were to ask you about this later, you could explain what happened at that time.

i agree with the last two posts.
