Has anyone heard anything about Brandon Woods Apartments? I'm will be moving in June to start my internship. Any housing advice would be appreciated.
Hello there! Have you tried asking on the facebook group or looking at some online reviews?

I believe you would be at a decent part of town which is nice, though I'm not familiar with the apartment itself.

Looking at Mizzou's prereqs it says they only need 5 hours of physics. Does anyone know if they will accept 4 hours(1st part of sequence) 5 is a random number? I am going to call and ask tomorrow I am just curious.

Are you coming with pets? There is a great apt complex called Broadway village (less than 5 mintues to the hospital) but they have a no pet policy :( I rented from Hacker properties and was happy while I was there.

You need both Physics 1 and 2

I'm like 99.999% sure I'm attending Missouri! But of course that little bit of me is being a scaredy cat and procrastinating on committing. Any Mizzou students wanna gush on how awesome of a school it is to make me feel better about moving 15+ hours away?

I can gush for you :). Just PM me! Or ask me whatever you would like to know about this school on here

For anyone who is for sure attending ever-so-wonderful-Mizzou and are looking for housing, my room will become available in the beginning of June! I live with one other person, who is absolutely awesome! She will be staying but I will be leaving because I found a place that is located exactly where I want to be to be closer to my church, gym and my dog's favorite dog park! PM me if you're interested! I can send pictures of the place as well! It is pet friendly and there is no pet fee at all! The landlord loves vet students! Also, rent is only $340 per bedroom!

Last year they went out March 28th. It was the Monday of spring break for mizzou. I'm hoping that means the 27th this year!

Yeah, at my interview on feb 18th they said 3-4 weeks so im hoping any day now. Just getting antsy and wondering what anyone has heard. Thank you!

I will most likely be attending Mizzou in the fall and was hoping for some information from current vet students that are focused on exotic/wildlife. What kind of experiences have you gotten, how did you find them, etc. I've noticed Mizzou's lack of opportunities in curriculum and exotic clientele at the hospital comes up a lot on the pro vs. con lists. It would definitely help settle my nerves about attending Missouri. Thank you in advance!!

There are several opportunities for exotics if you look!

-> During your first two years:
- ZEW club. They take field trips to the zoo and hold physical exam labs
- Summer Africa Program!!! Super popular 4? week program where you go and treat and learn about alllll the wildlife.
- Raptor Rehab. During first week of first year you can volunteer with the raptors and help give treatments.
- Summer research: You can do research here with the lab animal folks (who are AWESOME), or you can go to a clinic somewhere and either do an externship during after your second year or volunteer somewhere.

-> During clinics:
- We have 10 weeks of electives and 16 (YES, 16!) weeks of off-time/externship time. You will not find this anywhere else. You can go anywhere in the US and go to wildlife places and zoos and whatever else. We just got an email the other day about an exotic clinic externship.

Awesome! I know they briefly mentioned the raptor rehab during my interview day but I wasn't sure if there was anything else. Thank you for the information! It helps make the decision a lot less scary!

Did Kathy Seay tell you that? 3-4 weeks from the 18th? That would be awesome!

One of my classmates & so to be internmates wants to go into zoo medicine. He has spent time at zoos across the country, worked with all kinds of exotic animals in his preceptor/ elective time. He has even been able to publish a paper with the San Diego zoo about tortoises. If you want to work with exotics, Mizzous curriculum is perfect because you get to cater your clinical schedule to what you want to do.

The South Africa trip allowed students to work with lions, elephants, African wild dogs, zebra, all kinds of antelopes etc. it is a once in a lifetime trip.

2 of my close friends have done research with bats here at the school.

There are opportunities out there, you just have to make them happen!

Yeah I'll just have to put some time into figuring out whats out there and what I'd like to do. I will definitely look into the Africa program, I went to South Africa previously for a veterinary internship and would LOVE to go back! Thanks for your feedback!

So, I am currently planning on attending Missouri in the fall. However, I am waiting to see if I get pulled off of my in-state waitlist. Any suggestions as to how long I should wait before I look for apartments/sign a lease in Columbia? I don't want to sign a lease and then get a call that I have been pulled off the waitlist, but I also don't want to make it super difficult to find a place in Columbia ahaha. The struggle.

I don't see why you couldn't wait until late April/May to see. The good news is, CoMo has a very late housing cycle, so you should be able to still find places. The other option is finding a place you like and ask the landlord if you could work something out if you get pulled from the waitlist, or maybe find one that doesn't start the lease until August?

Yeah I was wondering if there were any landlords that would be lenient about that. I will have to make some calls and whatnot! This would be much easier if Illinois would tell me my waitlist position. :/ Oh well, Missouri is an awesome school and I am sooo excited no matter what happens!

I've decided to attend my IS, so I hope that opens up an OOS spot for one of you on the waitlist!!

Any OOS students or incoming students: when did/will you start looking and applying for housing? We are planning on moving to MO at the end of July/early August from PA and it's super hard to figure out the whole moving cross country thing. Not sure when we should start applying

Do any current students who are originally OOS (or not) have any advice on getting health and accident insurance? Ideally I'd like something that's portable that I could use when I visit home (California) also, but I think that may be just too much to ask. I'm aging out of my parents insurance next month so I'm kind of freaking out with what to get. Insurance is so expensive!

The school insurance is $3000ish. But that would not work well at home. I am still on parents so don't have too much advice outside of this.

Thank you for your reply!

The school insurance actually looks really good and I think might allow for seeing doctors elsewhere (?). I'm going to call them with my questions and I'll report back here in case anyone else is interested.

I got into my in-state school! I will be backing out of MU so someone on the alternative list can go!

I just recently signed lease at "the Lofts at the Manor". They are SO close to the vet school and pretty reasonable. Here is there website, I believe you have to call to get availability and pricing.

Hey guys! 3rd year out-of-stater here. Things are a little slow today at my externship, so I decided to peruse. Let me know if you have any specific questions about life in Como, living options, etc. I'm also happy to answer anything else about Mizzou's program or vet school in general.

Officially declined all my acceptances at other schools. I'm super excited to be going here!!! My mom and I will be going out in May to look at houses to buy (and rent out to other students) :). I wish I could just move already and start!

If you need an awesome real estate agent, I have one if the best here!

Are you staying in an apartment? Mind sharing your pricing?

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

I am staying in a 3-bedroom apartment and paying $550 a month. That price includes absolutely everything from parking to utilities to wifi!

That's crazy! That's per person, though I assume?

Hi everyone, first time poster here. Has anyone received a definitive answer as to when IS applicants will be hearing back about decisions? Im very suprised with everyone's patience- the wait has been killing me!

Don't worry, I'm dying right there with you! I was pretty sure we would find out today, as it appears that there had been a pattern of decisions going out on the Monday of spring break every year. Apparently not this year. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Glad I'm not suffering alone. Fingers crossed for tomorrow haha

Someone should call or email her. (Not me because I'm intimidated. )
It should have gone out Monday!!
Not me either, it's not like they will change your acceptance to a rejection just because you annoyed them by calling but still don't want to. Hopefully somebody seeing this is braver than us! Even knowing the day it was going out, if it was still going to be a while, would be better than this not knowing anything!

RE: Mizzou Student Health Insurance

This is the information I collected after researching and calling Aetna about the specifics of the insurance plan in case anyone is interested:
  • Cost is currently a little over $2600 for full annual coverage (this means you are covered over winter break and summer etc)
  • This is a Nationwide plan so if you are an OOS-er like me, that means you are covered when you visit home and want to see a doctor there (cheaper if they are in the Aetna network which you can check through their website) or if there is an emergency
  • The plan is a PPO so you are not required to see a primary care physician to see a specialist and you don't have to go to the student health center if you don't want to but it might be cheaper
  • There is the option for an annual plan or semesterly plans depending on your preference
  • Dental and vision are not currently covered but the student health center offers low cost vision services. Not sure about dental.
  • You need to reapply annually
  • Some services require pre-approval from the insurance company
  • If you have a pre-existing condition, if you have continuous coverage up until 30 days before this plan starts (8/15), your treatment for said condition will be covered by this new insurance plan
  • If you want to use this insurance, apply through your Mizzou account when you get it, NOT through the insurance company page. That way, the cost will just be added to your student tab and you won't have to pay the whole premium cost up front
  • Some aspects of the insurance are subject to change for the 8/15/17-8/14/18 coverage term. They said to call back after July 4th to get the solidified details. It shouldn't really change though.
The listed out benefits and other particulars of the plan are available on this page: https://www.aetnastudenthealth.com/students/student-connection.aspx?GroupID=890430

Maybe today or Monday? You are right though, it would be so much easier to handle this if they just gave us a date. Like "hey guys, we will send out decision emails on April 3rd. Have a nice day!"

But they don't do that.
