Does attending the Drew program restrict your choices of post graduate specialities? Meaning, do I HAVE TO (or will most everybody in the program) do something along the lines of family practice in underserved populations? Or is it considered significant training for anything?

Is this program more for underrepresented minorities? Should I already have demonstrable evidence of interest in this sort of thing to be considered?

Sorry for all the questions.. I'm just wondering if it is worth applying there or not if one is a traditional med school applicant. Any info would be appreciated

No one is going to put a gun to your head and force you to go into primary care. While primary care is more consistent with the Drew mission, typically less than half go into "primary care" residencies based on recent match lists. You are free to pursue the residency of your choice.

Drew isn't specifically a URM program, rather it hopes to recruit students that will pursue service to the underserved following their medical education. It just so happens that URMs tend to fit that profile better. I believe first and formost Drew wishes to recruit students that are dedicated to working with underserved groups. In essence the process is self selecting. I am East Asian and I was accepted, so being non URM does not exclude you from consideration. I did focus my app strongly on community health and I have education and work in public health so that probably played a factor.
