MPH 2020: Applied, Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got an email from Rutgers saying my app is complete (stupid GRE didn’t send) in the email it said I should here back within a week. I’m guessing since classes start on the 21st, all decisions will be out by next Friday for spring 2020.

Same here, especially since they said they’d get back within 4-6 weeks. I assume the week of Christmas doesn’t count for the 4-6 weeks

I think the latest we will here from them will be the week of the 19th since classes start on the 27th.

Hello! Does anyone know about this 75% scholarship for the second year at Johns Hopkins for the MSPH? Is that guaranteed if you work for JHU? If that's the case, are jobs that make you eligible for this scholarship hard to get? Really I don't know anything about it, but it makes a really big difference

Accepted to the Johns Hopkins MSPH in the Population, Family and Reproductive Health Department!!! I applied on 12/29, my application went under review on 12/31, and I got the acceptance email on 1/2. Thought it was a mistake at first since it was so fast, but it looks like I'll be attending my first choice program in the fall. Congratulations to everyone else getting good news with the new year!

Anyone else getting anxious about hearing back? Congrats to those of you who have! I just feel like this thread has been so dead recently... and I feel like I'm driving myself crazy with dreams every night about my email inbox :arghh:

I think between Christmas and the New Year a lot of offices were closed, some for almost two entire weeks with both holidays. I would imagine decisions will start to pick up again this week!

I hope you're right!!

Does anyone know how long it should take to get decisions from CUNY and from Rutgers? I got an email from CUNY saying they should get back to me by mid March but I'm wondering if / hoping I'll hear sooner than that. I haven't heard from Rutgers.

I'm having difficulty finding when most programs start. Can someone help? I'm applying to
GWU
Harvard
Columbia
Emory
JHU (I know this is a July start)

I was told that GWU begins late August.

Anyone familiar with the best way to request more money from an institution? I received a small amount from George Washington University and have yet to hear back from any other programs. I read that you can leverage acceptances against one another, but was wondering if anyone has ever done so. Is it best to wait until I receive an acceptance/funding from other programs, or should I reach out to the financial aid office sooner than later?

Not sure about others, but Harvard starts in September. But that can vary too depending upon the program you have chosen.

Is there any Facebook group for discussion of mph programs, acceptances and all that, just like this thread? If anyone is a part of those groups, I request you to kindly post the links here. Thanks.

Anyone has anyfeedback about the university of Florida health policy and management program? Is UIC better program?

I looked into this a while ago and based on the calendars I found, the fall semester at Emory starts on August 28, and Harvard and Columbia both start on Sept 3.

Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 2.50 (was pre-med for so long and it tanked my gpa.. finally gave up and found that public health was better for me)
Major/minor: Psychology (B.S.) and minors in Ethics and Neuroscience

- over 100 hours volunteering at a hospital
- One summer as an AmeriCorps member
- 8 months as an early childhood educator
- 2 spring break trips to Nicaragua and Dominican Republic to support and serve rural communities
- over 5 first author poster presentations for conferences and oral presentations
- second and fourth author on 2 different papers
- co-author (third and fourth) on 3 additional papers (5 all together)
- Project Coordinator at research institution within Family Medicine for women's health / child health (constructs grants, design studies which are industry-funded (large pharmeceutical company) and local region funded, submits IRB, analyzes data, constructs posters, have attended 6 conferences this year with 1 poster win
- Nanny/baysitter (past 3 years)
- training to become a doula in March of 2020

Letters of Rec: P.I/boss - board of the chair, aka highest position within department, faculty statistician who worked extensively with, college advisor who is an accomplished tenured professor

Interested in: maternal/child health, reproductive health/rights, contraceptive access, vulnerable populations, global health, health promotion

Applying: JHU (MSPH - pop/repro health), JHU (MSPH social and behavioral interventions), GWU (maternal/child), Pitt (Behavioral and Community Sciences), potentially Boston University

Looking for additional schools to apply to to expand my reach. Not sure whether to rush the GRE on the 14th, or take an additional week to study. Dream school is JHU, but is a reach due to low gpa. If delayed GRE, would no longer be able to apply to Pitt due to missing the deadline. Been studying for the GRE but mainly on math concepts and vocab words.

Eventually want to get a PhD or DrPh so if I don't get into anywhere, I will work and then apply to more MPH in the fall for spring start or PhD programs. Goal is to live in DC or Baltimore.

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

I would personally take the GRE sooner than later. It’ll take about a week after completion to process and another week or so to be successfully accepted by programs, once sent. Both dates set you pretty late into the process so I would also consider emailing programs to get a better idea of their internal timelines, whether or not it’s better to apply next cycle, etc.

CUNY emailed me before the holidays that they will let me know about their decision by Dec 15, 2019, but I never heard back from them  . Which concentration did you apply for? 🙂 I applied for MPH Community Health!

I was accepted into the same program on 12/26! I've been peeping on here regularly to see anyone else in that dept. Congrats to you!

Has anyone heard anything from the Columbia Epidemiology MPH (Accelerated)? I submitted on 11/30 and got verified on 12/14, but I've only got a link to set up their portal (nothing along the lines of an interview) :/

HPM is the only department that does interviews and Columbia doesn’t start releasing decisions until late January, I wouldn’t worry too much 🙂

Me too on 12/12! So cool to see who we might be classmates with. Congrats you two!

If it’s the person I’m thinking of, they did the same for me, but in Seattle. My guess is that she’s in the area for a conference. She was in Seattle to recruit for BUSPH and happened to see that I started my application for BUSPH. I recommend meeting if you can, she was able to provide a lot of insight and answered many of my questions. I’m sure you already know, but they will try to sell the program so it’s good to keep that in the back of your mind.

I was accepted to Yale on 12/19 and they said they would get back to me in 10 days regarding financial aid but I have not heard back yet. Have others who were accepted on this date heard back? Thank you!

A close buddy of mine who applied and got accepted last year said Yale notified her of her FA and scholarship request around April despite getting her admissions result in January. Don’t know how this application cycle will be like so email them and do let us know what they say!

I got mine about 5 days after my admission letter

Pre-med can be rough on the GPA!

That's good to hear! Given that Boston has been pretty slow to give application updates, I was relieved to get that email and know that the decision date is getting closer. Hopefully it goes well!

Has anyone heard from Emory about a decision yet? Some people in the forum last year had decisions before Christmas, so I'm surprised with how long they're taking this year.

Nothing yet 🙁 It does seem to be taking a bit longer this year. I thought I got an email from them but turns out, it was just about the TIPH Virtual Fair

I was wondering the same thing re: Emory!! And omg my heart leaped when I got that email, only to sink again when I realized what it was 🙁

Emory is getting reaccredited, which probably explains the delay
Ah damn, I was wondering why they were being more slow this year.

Hey all first time posting, but I was accepted to UNC MPH for Health Policy on Dec 19, 2019.

They never sent me an email notifying me about the decision, but my portal was updated with an acceptance letter.
Congrats! I was also accepted today to UNC for Health Behavior. I had an email this morning but the actual acceptance was in their portal. Yay for admissions teams being back to work!!

Congratulations!! When did your application go under review? Been nearly a month since I submitted mine for nutrition, which isn't that long and they said 4-6 weeks, but so did the other schools I've been accepted to. I've seen a handful of acceptances and I'm just getting antsy haha

That's frustrating! Have you reached out to them since then? I applied for Policy!
