MPH 2020: Applied, Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted

Just talked to the program director at GW MHA! Below are my notes should anyone find them helpful:

Student makeup
  • cohort go through class together
  • most are undergrad ~20s
106 MHA countrywide, 7 uni requires residency program for completion; GW requires it during the third year
  • 2 options: full-year residency (6 credits; large health systems/ hospitals, acute care), OR 3-6 mo. formal internship (3 credits -- need to take another course; healthcare consulting, long-term care, gov./policy)
  • 6 credit hours full-year residency is paid 55k-60k
  • 92-93 percent of students stay after residency ends
  • assist students in finding a job, write rec letter
  • personal pref for location considered
  • alumni network (CEO level at large hospitals in the NE), assigned professor as residency advisor who will visit you at your site
Apparently I'm still waiting for other programs to give me a decision but GW looks like the way to go!
 
Hey everyone! I hope the week has been great! For those of you, like me, who worry about their GPA and if it is too late I emailed my schools about sending in my fall quarter grades which turned out to be a 4.0 bringing my overall GPA from a 3.07 to a 3.16. They all replied back that they would attach them immediately which I was worried about since I applied about a month ago. I don't know if that'll boost my chances but it doesn't hurt to show them you care about their program by providing extra evidence why they should accept you. It gave me a little sense of relief being able to say I did everything I could in case other people are in the same boat.

My application to UNC and UMich were verified on 11/18 and I submitted my supplemental app to UNC 11/19. UMich confirmed that they received my application 11/21.

What are the best schools one can realistically get accepted into with a 3.5 and a couple years experience as a paramedic?

Heard from Rutgers on Tuesday - got the application is complete email. It said application “will be submitted to the admissions review committee for their consideration after January 3, 2020. Once they render an admissions decision, you will be notified.”

This really depends on a lot... Theoretically any school? A 3.5 is around average for most schools' accepted students, but an acceptance really also hinges on your extracurriculars/experience, personal statement, letters of rec, GRE score, etc.

Hoping for NYU either this week or next week (although I’m not expecting much starting next week until after the new year.) I was told they’re on rolling admissions with about a 4-6 week turn around time.

Awesome, thank you and thanks for the info! My supplemental app was submitted in early November, but due to a transcript error, my application wasn’t verified until 12/12 so I’m a couple weeks behind. I’ll be on the lookout after the holidays for sure!
 
Has anyone that applied to Yale's EMD concentration received an admissions decision?

Nothing yet, although I applied to EID. They say EMD and EID are practically the same department. Did you apply for MPH or MS?

Many Congratulations to you ❤️ I applied for the MS program through Graduate School of Arts and Science. Have not heard anything yet!
 
Did anyone who applied for Yale's MS programs through GSAS received admission decision?

curious about this as well! based on the 2019 thread the video questions were only asked from international applicants that submitted TOEFL scores—just not sure how accurate this info is.

This info is accurate. Only non native english speakers will receive the invite.
 
For those who received merit for GW, was anyone under a 3.25 GPA? I emailed them and asked if I received anything because I did not hear back and they said I received nothing because I was under a 3.25 for my GPA. However, I feel like I have seen others get merit under that GPA?

I agree! Tomorrow and possibly Monday are probably the last we'll hear from any of the schools until 1/2/2020 I assume.

I am supposed to hear back sometime next week or after Christmas. My cum is 3.22 and my SOPHAS verified GPA is 3.32. Not sure which one they consider, but I'll let you know if I receive/do not receive funding!

But their yield is not 100% so the accepted number of students would be much higher than 220.
 
I've heard that Yale is good for quant/methods. Does anyone know where this comes from? Or similarly, what other programs are "known" for? I applied for MPH programs in epidemiology and I often hear that different schools have different strengths.
 
I've been checking Emory's OPUS portal about a million times a day, in hopes that I'll get a decision letter... nothing yet! Seems like it won't ever come! I know they said 3-6 weeks but I was hoping to hear before Christmas!
