MPH 2020: Applied, Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Accepted to Columbia SMS with a certificate in Sexuality, Sexual, and Reproductive Health! I found out yesterday but I just got my account activated a few moments ago. Congrats to everyone and I hope you’re all having great application cycles! It’s been quite the ride

Congrats! Are you thinking about going to one of their open house dates?

Accepted to Michigan Health Behavior and Health Education today!!!! Absolutely over the moon as this was my dream school but I didn't think I had the stats to get in! Congrats to all who also received acceptance this week!! Still haven't heard from Columbia, USC, or Claremont but I'm almost positive I'll be accepting Michigan's offer!

Newbie here, thought I'd join the convo instead of lurking i just want decisions out so I can start planning my next few months transition out of work lol..

Is the status option how everyone is putting Info in signatures?
Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

Yea everyone's status is their signatures!

Hi everyone! First time posting here, but have really valued this forum as a resource throughout the process so far, so thank you all 🙂

Has anyone else that applied to Columbia by the priority deadline also not heard back? I applied to their full time MPH in Epi and haven't heard back yet/ don't have anything posted on my portal, so all the posts so far are making me a little nervous 🙁

Congratulations to everyone who has received acceptances!!!

I submitted the application on SOPHAS by the priority deadline but still haven't heard back... kind of anxious too 😵

Hi guys. Did anyone get accepted into Yale accelerated program for Advanced professional mph in Applied bio and epi ? What are your thoughts about Yale when compared to JHU schoolwide and Harvard mph 45 . How are you approaching to rank it ? Thanks for your thoughts. I am just trying to figure out how to make a proper decision and torn between rankings and the class sizes and the brand names and financial aid. LOL. Any advice might help. Thanks in advance.

According to my advisor, not an expert at all, just saying what I heard!

My advisor said that Harvard and JHU are much more well known than Yale. Comparatively, Yale is newer than the other said programs, which does not make it a bad program, but could potentially make networking slightly harder. Yale is of course a well known school, so it really doesn't impact it that much. I would say that if you are worried about being in a smaller cohort with "not as much" alumni, then it's fine. Some people don't like that, so it's a personal preference. Overall, you can't go wrong.

I applied to the same program also before priority ddl and not heard back! super nervous right here.

Hello everyone 🙂 Congratulations to everyone! I've been wanting to post for a while now and finally built up the courage to do so. I've beyond humbled to have been accepted to so many amazing programs. Idk what to do now though lol Does anyone know how the minority support systems at Yale and Columbia are? I'm starting to make a list of the pros and cons for all schools so ANY information on ANY of the MPH programs I applied to would be greatly appreciated (opinions on on-campus housing... is living off-campus more affordable?, things to do, environment in general... supportive or competitive, faculty mentorship...priority or not) 🤔

Aw thanks for replying everyone!
Congrats to all the acceptances :hardy::bow: I took a huge risk in only applying to my dream schools and thank god someone saw something in me. I'm at a point where I'm happy enough to go to hopkins I just need my peace of mind and a place to angst with everyone. I need to see the final rejections from the other 3 schools so that I just get on with my life but secretly I'd like some more acceptances options because options are great

From my sig you'll see that I had a huge redemption arc going on with the rollercoaster of a GPA + applied to the schools in th enick of time and had a super delayed WES reviewing situation (finalized mid January). Is anyone else in a similar situation/what's your decision notification timing like compared to people who did priority (or were just diligent)

also happy to connect with anyone with similar redemption gpa struggles

For Columbia I spoke to financial aid and they said that off campus housing is a lot cheaper, but they also said that during your first semester most people use loans to pay off rent since they strongly recommend not working.

Does anyone have any perceptions about the UCLA HCM division???? About UCLA SPH in general?

Has anybody heard anything from Colorado? I hadn't been thinking about it because it's not a top choice for me but I realized I haven't heard anything from them at all since I submitted my app

Hope everyone has a great Friday—I’m on my way to do a guided tour at Emory! Hopefully I will look at some housing options too to get an idea of cost of living in Atlanta. My favorite part about applying has been the opportunity to visit new cities !🙂

let me know if you have any questions you want me to ask! I will be touring the BSHE department specifically I think

edit: maybe I won’t do a tour if my plane doesn’t get de-iced in the next 20 minutes....

I submitted on 11/20, verified on 12/2 and on 12/5 I was told my application was sent for review. Someone who applied to my same concentration 2 days earlier than me got their acceptance 3 weeks ago, so I think a few days can make a big difference in turnaround time. Good luck to you!
I see, thank you!

I emailed them a while ago and they said that they will have decisions out "by the end of February"-- Good luck!

Has anyone heard back from Temple?
I was accepted to Temple back in December (the exact date I applied and was accepted is in my signature). I was accepted to the MPH/MS in HPM and Health Informatics.

They only allow you 3 weeks to decide if you’re attending so I had to request an extension until March 1st to decide and they granted it.

The admissions office was very responsive to me so I would suggest emailing them about a status update!

I got accepted yesterday to Colorado for Global Health - Epi, but I’m not sure their overall timeline or if each concentration is different. Good luck!

Was waiting to see posts about Colorado on here! Pending some life decisions about making a cross-country move, it's actually one of my top choices due to the location and ability to qualify for in-state tuition after the first year. However, it's been hard to find recent objective information about the program and how it's viewed with the PH community, so any info people have is extremely welcomed!

So I actually submitted on the day of the priority deadline (1/15), and received a generic acceptance email barely a week later! At first, I was so confused by the quick turnaround time I was almost worried it was a mistake. Has anyone else been accepted yet?

Additionally, the email had absolutely no mention of scholarships and aid- it didn't indicate if I had/hadn't received any and also didn't say if that info would come at a later time. Does anyone know what their usual protocol for this is, or whether they commonly offer merit-based scholarships outside of the few mentioned on the site that are intended to promote diversity?

Looking forward to reading any input anyone has!

Hi! Congrats on your acceptance! Did your email include any financial info? Or do you know when we might hear about this?

Just thought I'd share my experience with Emory - I was rejected for my first choice of Global Health (not a shock lol) and I received no notification whatsoever, I just happened to check the portal. My app is now under review for my second choice (Global Epi, even though I've pretty much decided on another school) and they still haven't sent an email notifying me I was denied or that it was under review for my second choice (like they said they would in a previous email) and its been like 3ish weeks. So I would recommend checking your portal for any info if you haven't heard back!

Thanks for you response! Have you heard anything about funding?

Thank you! I saw some dorm room options on their housing website that were ridiculously cheap, given that it is NY ($570/month). I'm not sure why they would be so cheap though so I'll probably call to ask if there even are on campus housing options that affordable 🤔 I'm graduating in May so I wouldn't mind continuing to live in a dorm

Would you mind attaching a link to the website where you found pricing? I found general descriptions of some of the options but nothing that included prices...

They said there was no funding to offer me scholarship-wise. I haven’t asked about financial aid stuff because I probably won’t go there!

I disagree with Financial Aid. Public Health students may stay in a dorm room for <$600 per month without roommates. I’ve looked it up in the past

wow! That’s shocking... I’m so sorry to hear about that though 🙁 I feel like their communication has been lacking. My portal says still under review so at this point I’m just feeling like if they’re gonna reject me I would like to know already :/
