MPH Fall 2014: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied to UCLA, but community health sciences. When I try to log in on the decision status login page, it says "No applications for this email address were found. Please try again."

...Should I be worried?

Mine's doing the same thing for Berkeley? I'm not sure if how the UCs run their individual graduate applications since they're clearly different/individual portals, but I'm just going to cross my fingers that it's a UC thing!! (Especially since I know the Berkeley one had everything when I submitted it, I checked way too many times :xf:)

Did you get an email from them confirming that your application was received?

Yup, I did! When I log in to view my application it does say "APPLICATION STATUS: SUBMITTED."
It's just on the decision log in page that has the other message.

If it were me and I was 100% sure that I was using the correct email address to check then I would probably send a friendly email to admissions inquiring as to whether or not this should be a concern.

...but I'm also crazy. You're probably fine but it never hurts to double check!

Hahahaha I am also crazy too. It would definitely give me some peace of mind.

This might be a dumb question, but do you have to officially accept your admission before you can see your financial aid package (referring to Berkeley specifically, but not sure if they're all the same)? Thanks 🙂

It is ideal that you see your financial aid package before the deadline to accept/reject an offer. This does not happen consistently, which can be frustrating especially if you are considering competing offers or are unsure about other possible offers. If you are being considered for a scholarship or grant, it is more likely that you will get word from them before the deadline to accept/reject. After all, it is to their advantage to sweeten the pot. However, it is my view that if you do not hear anything before the deadline, it is likely that the financial aid package will contain the standard federal loans (for which everyone is qualified). Worse case scenario, if you are seriously considering competing offers that may have generous scholarships/grants, some folks pay the deposit in one school (if near the deadline), wait for the financial aid offer from the other school, and later withdraw the acceptance of the first school (and unfortunately lose the deposit), assuming the 2nd offer is better. At UCLA there is no deposit.

Ahhh! Congrats! How did you hear? I am waiting anxiously for this one :/ I hope not hearing doesn't mean bad news for me!

I got an email two days back saying that my application status is now available online on JHU apply yourself portal an I logged in to find my letter of acceptance. The program usually takes longer to give out admissions as the two departments independently review your app and I don't think you need to get anxious already. I did call them a couple times and requested they expedite the process so maybe you could call them.
Good luck!

Has anyone applied to UCONN's program/know when to expect a decision notification?

I submitted my application to UCONN (MPH) on January 14th. I inquired last week via email how they release admission decisions and I received a response that indicated the department had just begun the review process. Sadly, all this person said was, "so it will be awhile before you hear."

Has anyone else who has been accepted to BU received numerous emails from admissions staff, professors, etc? I am trying to judge if these are personal emails or if they have been sent out to those who were accepted en masse.

I haven't seen anything from BU beyond the acceptance email. What sort of emails do you mean? I'm curious!

Hey guys..
Congrats to all those who got into their desired Programs.. And good luck to all who are still awaiting.. I am sure you will get into one very soon....
I am so happy to share that even I have got calls for MPH from Boston University, Uni of Minnesota, Uni of Pittsburgh, Nebraska Medical center, Brown School (washington Uni of St. Loius). Expect for the Brown school, I have applied into the maternal and child health stream in all. In Brown School it is for Global health..
I am still figuring out what to choose.. I have also applied into Johns Hopkins and Harvard.. still waiting for them to respond...................
Please suggest.......... which University has better prospects...better collaborations for practicum and jobs later..
I am also confused about the stream.. is there scope of maternal and child health in USA...............???????????
Help guys..........
Also are there international students (out of USA) in the forum?????

I got an email from the Dean, which I am pretty sure went to everyone. But I also got an email from a professor asking if I had any other questions. I was in the group that received an early decision on my application (December)/got a merit scholarship, and I am wondering if these sorts of emails are going out to everyone who was accepted in Dec.
I was accepted in early January with a merit scholarship as well (for international health MPH) and haven't gotten any email beyond the acceptance. They must really want you 🙂

http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/admissions/applicat.htm

Go to this link ^ click "decision status login", and enter the email address you used to apply!

I don't think you're missing anything, they never really mentioned anything about it, but I noticed it when I applied through the gdnet system. 🙂

Anyways, they'll probably notify us by email before updating the system or at the same time as updating the system.

Just wanted to let you know they are making decisions! Got rejected this morning but wish you the best! 🙂

I am international. when did you submit you app to U Minnesota? and when did you got their admission. I am still waiting too. Only heard from Nebraska admission. I applied Harvard but Kind of unconfident with my low toefl score so really think I have low chance .

I have already accepted my acceptance (haha?) to BU so my emails are for attending students, but GW has been sending me a lot of emails that sound similar to the ones you're receiving from BU. However, I already declined my acceptance (sent in the paperwork two months ago) and I'm still getting them, so I assume it's automatic in some way.

Oh no I'm sorry! Pretty ruthless on Valentine's day...did they email you?

Has anybody heard back from NYU's Community and International Health program?

Agree. They totally ruined my day :'(
But I got an email this morning (around 2am) saying the admission committee has made the decision. I checked the status link and it linked me to a letter. So yea, the dept is sending out decisions. I am still waiting on two more... so hopefully...
GOOD LUCK though! I know how it feels to be rejected so I hope no one else has to go through that 🙂
Happy Valentine's Day <3

Has anyone heard from CAL's biostat program or UCLA? Still waiting and wondering

Has anyone heard from Yale's SBS program recently?

Just checked the UMich wolverine access page... There was a link labled "View Admissions Recommendation". I don't think I've seen that before but honestly I can't remember since I haven't visited the site in weeks.
You have been recommended for admission to the University of Michigan School of Public Health by Health Management and Policy. Your admittance will become official upon certification by the School of Public Health's Office of Academic Affairs. Once your recommendation has been verified and confirmed, you're status will be updated. Please note that you are not officially admitted until that verification has taken place.

Not official yet? Not trying to get too excited 🙂... Can anybody comment if they have received this message? I interviewed with them this past Monday.

I'm not international, but I also haven't heard from Minnesota yet. E-submitted 11/27 and notified it was received as complete 12/6. Thinking of giving them a call early next week if I still don't hear back.

I had that notice for maybe a week before it became official. I was the same way, couldn't get excited until I knew for sure. Don't quote me, but I would bet you're in 😉

The official admissions email should come shortly. Unofficial acceptance is just a formality. Congrats.

Accepted at Colorado and Texas A&M today!
Thank you and congrats!! So exciting!!! :soexcited:

Hey stg99 - I've been wondering the same thing. I got the dean one, a few follow ups from staff, and the a professor in my department (HPM) just emailed and we had a nice discussion. It may be a departmental thing? I didn't apply early and haven't gotten my acceptance package with scholarship info, so I don't know where I stand, but they seem to be putting in some effort to make students feel welcome/involved.

Has anyone heard from UC Berkeley yet? I submitted on 11/30 but still haven't heard anything from them. It seems like they are taking an awfully long time to review the applications, though I don't think these applications are that long/difficult to evaluate...

BTW is there anyone who has applied to Columbia? I received an email from them stating that decisions would be released in mid-Feb and again in March after I submitted my application. I'm a little confused about what they mean by that. Do they release a batch of decisions in Feb and the rest in March or do they release all decisions in Feb and send everyone reminders in March?

current Yale students or admitted ones 🙂!!,
quick question regarding Yale's marking scheme - I think it's absolutely awesome that it's a pass/fail marking scheme (puts more importance in learning and less in marks!!) but what happens if you want to continue your studies after your MPH? how can you apply for a phD for ex, if you don't have a gpa?

I applied to Berkeley and haven't heard anything too; but from past acceptances and from lurking previous forums, I think they start sending out the majority of acceptances in end of Feb, beginning March; but I think some people have heard back already (if you look earlier on this thread)

and I applied to Columbia (epi) but I haven't received any emails from them!! should I be worried?? (Although, I did apply after the priority deadline, so maybe that's why?)

Congratulations! Can I ask when you submitted those apps? I've applied to both of those schools so I'm interested in the timeline

I got accepted on Feb 5th to the 2-year health policy & management. I think it depends which concentration you applied to. They just sent out invites to their Admitted Students day a few days ago too.

I also applied on Nov 30th for the MPH in HPM. I was rejected and I received the email to check my status about 2 weeks ago.

Denied by UNC-Chapel Hill. 1st decision. Not feeling good at all about Emory or Hopkins. Time to apply to some backups, I suppose.

I recently got accepted into U of Miami's MPH program. Can anyone tell me thoughts on the program? It's not as recognized as the other schools I applied to but I am interested in a lot of their research and I plan to pursue a MPH/MPA joint degree, if I decide to attend.

Inquired about my application status at Tulane today, was told I was accepted into the Epi program! (I was informed I would receive my acceptance e-mail/letter next week!) 😀

I'm starting to think Berkeley just likes to torture us as long as possible. I turned my UCB app to SOPHAS 11/25 and haven't heard back yet. But that's normal, their admissions blog said to expect word mid-Feb to late March. According to other forums like grad cafe, people are staring to get responds...slowly but surely.

Thank you! SOPHAS sent them both 1/16, and both sent emails that my app had been received 1/21.
