Thank you! I am relatively close to the Parnassus campus as well, but the program is being moved to the new Global Health Hub at the Mission Bay campus. I was looking for an excuse to move anyways.

I was accepted to UCLA on Feb 4th and my online status is STILL not updated! It doesn't really matter though, as I will be going to Berkeley instead. I just want to decline so someone off the waitlist may be able to get my spot!

And Re: Berkeley vs UCLA, both great programs, it just comes down to which city you prefer as both have very strong local networks.

Thats very thoughtful of you! For me it's tough, because I applied to Berkeley's Infectious Disease program because I'd like to ultimately focus on ID, and since UCLA's infectious disease dept. was under Epi, I applied for Epi there. Now I'm torn because Epi seems like a great field in itself.

Do you know if any of the schools offering MPH accept late applications for the Fall Semester?
I'm applying to a scholarship in my country and the applications and placements will be done by the International Institute of Education of the USA, but as results only come out around the end of March, they are only sending the application for schools that accept late applications... 🙁
I'm seriously worried if any good school will accept it...

In time, I have all GRE grades around 53%, good GPA (8,2 out of 10 in Brazilian format). I graduated as a Pharmacist in 2009 and have been interning/working with Clinical Research since 2007.

What do you guys think? Any chance of getting in at a good school?

I Believe NYU, GW, PITT are still taking apps...You should do it ASAP because the deadline I think is April 1, or 15 (Don't remember) Also, Florida takes apps through the summer (Probably your best school)

Thank you so much for the answer! Do you think that with my grades and experience I have any chance at these schools?

The biggest problem is that IIE is the one placing the applications, not the candidates. I have already sent them all the documents required for the application process, but they need to be approved by the scholarship team and only after the approval (that needs to happen till the end of march) can IIE start the application process. It's really up to them now.
(and I'm only left with dying of anxiety until the results are out! hahaha!)

Because you will be applying through SOPHAS, it will take some time to have your application verified and submitted. Florida may be your best shot, or if you can, take a year off a apply for next year, this way you can get some money...And yes, I believe you have good experience to get into some of these schools....

The whole application process will be done by IIE really (not sure how it's done,but they have all my documents for the applications), so I just have to wait now... 😕

My biggest concern was if any good school would still be accepting application.

Hey guys... how's your decision process going along? ... i have my heart set on Columbia... just the cost and lack of financial aid info is driving me nuts.

Most of the waiting part is done... now the tough part... how to decide! Good luck to all.

Brown (deadline May 31st) and Tufts (deadline April 15th) are both still taking applications for MPH for Fall. Note that these are both programs, not schools of public health, so they're a little smaller. You look like you have really good GPA/work experience.

Actually Brown established their own school of Public Health in 2013.
 
Does anyone here know what the decision deadline is for students accepted to UNC's MPH/RD program? My application is on hold (waitlisted) and it would be nice to know how much longer I will have to wait 🙂 Thanks!

NYU's deadline was March 1st.

I think a program doesn't have to offer an MPH in all of the different tracks (Epi, Mangement/Policy, Health Education/Promotion, Biostats...), they just offer a few. While a school has to offer and MPH for each of the different Public Health disciplines recognized by CEPH.
 
Finally decided to create an account after a long time lurking...:cat:

Undergrad School: Cal state northridge
Undergrad GPA: 2.83 overall, 3.22 in core public health classes (yes, yes I know... was a bio major wanting to do pre med, all oopsies are in chem :/
Major/Minor: public health promotion
GradGPA (if applicable):
Grad Studies (if applicable):
GRE : 150 qr, 155 v, 4 writing
Experience/Research (please, be brief): president of public health organization, other leadership positions in others, tutoring, worked and volunteered for various nonprofits, intern at hospital, intern at health center, currently just got hired to work as a behavioral therapist for special needs kids

Applied: SFSU, CSUFullerton, CSU Long Beach
Rejected: SFSU ( no surprise, had a strict 3.0 requirement and a 2 year experience requirement that I barely met)
Accepted:
Waiting: CSUF and CSULB... Hoping for Fullerton because of lower gpa req... But because of first rejection yesterday, I'm starting to sweat bullets:nailbiting:

Their website says they interview 30% of applicants and from the total applicant pool accept 25%. You have good chances if you have already received an interview and are a good fit for the program.

I accepted my offer on Friday, so maybe we will be future classmates! Good luck!

Hey @HannahR I got accepted into the Healthcare management program. And it was a decision between UMich, UMinn, and JHU. All of which were great programs but Yale for me was the perfect fit for a number of reasons. Yale faculty and admissions counsel were really helpful in making my decision. Even though they aren't ranked in the top 10 or 5 it deter me because I know that the name Yale carries a lot of weight on its own. Also, I didn't want to live in a city center like Baltimore/Minneapolis but on the other hand Ann Arbor was way too small. New Haven seem like the perfect fit as far as size. It has the small town feel of have a tight knit community but you won't get bored because there is stuff to do. And NYC is not too far away (1.5hr on the train).

Emory does have a special relationship with the CDC and JHU with NIH. But I don't think proximity will discount you if you were to decide to go to Yale. Like think back to my questions. When I got my acceptance from Yale I was immediately decided but I held back because i didn't want to not take into account great aspects of the other schools. And how much easier would it be to get in touch with a professor at yale who might want research assistants compared with people at CDC/NIH who are focused on the work they are doing. Depending on where you are in your career Yale might be a better fit because the guidance from a professor. They are teaching you and you are getting experience under their wing.

April 15. Though there's a chance you can be brought off the wait list after this date (I think depending on how the class fills up, up until a week before orientation). Different schools, different situations I suppose!

I'm still waiting on JHU MPH Epi... I submitted 1/2 and it was complete as of 1/7.

Do we just wait it out or email?

lol I don't know I'm kind of scared to email...I think I will wait it out a little longer. But I'm glad i'm not the only one waiting on them...

I called the MPH office a couple of times for the status of my application and they were very helpful.
 
I've been getting decision notifications on Fridays. Maybe I'll finally hear back from UCI and Columbia tomorrow.

I am still waiting on three too... UCI, SDSU, and USC... I am really hoping this wait will be over soon...

Oops. forgot to update... Accepted into University of Arizona MPH - MCH program last week! :happy:

Just waiting on USC now - called today for an update and found out they aren't even reviewing til the MID/END of April. Decisions won't be out til June! That's insaaaaanely annoying considering priority apps for scholarships were due in early December. Wah! Unfair when other schools want decisions by April/May!

Deciding between Arizona, SDSU, and Claremont - kinda learning towards Arizona just to live in another state for 2 years, change it up! They also offer a chance for in-state tuition through the WRGP - Western Regional Graduate Program. Look into it if you're trying to go out of state. You could qualify!

Oh, decisions. It's so hard.😱

The WRGP is what is making me lean more and more towards accepting at UC Denver! Such a great deal! In-state tuition and mountains... hard to pass up. Anyone else accepting at UC Denver or going to admitted students day?

I'm still deciding between UC Denver and a couple others but I live in Colorado so I plan to attend their admit student day. It's a great school and a great place to live- makes it hard for me to consider going out of state. All of my out of state friends that moved here refuse to leave now that they are here- I think you will love it if you decide to go!

I was waitlisted at Yale (EMD), am waiting to hear from JHSPH for MMI ScM (my interest is in vector borne ID research), and among my acceptances, am deciding between GW (Public health microbio and emerging ID) and Emory MSPH epid

Yale and JHSPH would be my top choices - they both have researchers whose work aligns with my specific interests and offer classes tailored to ID epid. If you're tied between Yale and JHSPH, I think JHSPH might come out cheaper with the 75% off tuition in the second year.

Emory seems to offer a very solid, methods based education in epidemiology that would be very marketable. It also seems to offer a lot of real world opportunities throughout which we could tailor to ID. All of the Rollins students seem super enthusiastic about the school too.

Have you visited any of them/ are you going to Visit Emory?

I'm very interested in vector borne diseases, too! Who have you looked into working with at JHSPH? I know they are very strong in HIV/TB, but do they have a lot of people doing vector borne diseases/non-HIV/TB work?

I wonder how JHSPH compares to Emory in terms of career opportunities- it seems like everyone at Emory works at the CDC during grad school. Perhaps JHSPH students work at NIH and places like that? They definitely don't market that aspect the same way Emory does.

Yale is a really good research match for me too since all the Epi is focused on ID.

GW and Emory are both great, congrats! Are you leaning towards one or the other? Are you visiting/have you? I am going to admitted student days the next 3 weeks- Emory 3/21, JHSPH 3/28, and Yale 4/4. Ready for this waiting/decision process to be over!
 
Officially decided on Brown for a ScM in Epidemiology. It was between Columbia, UCLA and Brown. They gave me a 50% Merit scholarship that was hard to pass up. I also really liked the small student body but large research base (10 ScM students combined years, 46 Epi faculty). Excited to be moving to Providence, I have only lived in CA (SF/LA). Hopefully somebody here will fill my spot!
 
Anyone still waiting to hear back from UC Denver's Epidemiology department? It's already been two months since my application was mailed to them, and I haven't heard anything. I called them about a couple weeks ago, and they said they were still reviewing my application. They didn't tell me when decisions would be made though. I feel like everyone has already heard back from UC Denver, so I'm getting kinda irritated :/

I am also leaning towards Brown's ScM program over Emory and UCLA, however I have yet to attend Emory's Admitted students Days next week. (Also, I am from CA).

Did anyone apply to the MS in Public Health Microbiology and Emerging Infectious Diseases at GWU? How long did it take to hear back? My application was sent out over a month ago and I just got an email this week saying it's complete...

I emailed Joanne on Tuesday and asked when I should expect to hear - she notified me that my app was "on hold" and that as they started to hear back from the admitted students they would admit more students (if they declined the offer). She didn't offer any timeline but I've heard in the past the admitted students had a decision deadline earlier than April 15 due to the waitlist - not sure if that's the case this year. So - not having heard yet is a good thing since you weren't in the first round of rejections! I would email Joanne if you want to confirm 🙂 Good luck!!
