MPH Fall 2015: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nope, no correspondence since submitting my ApplyYourself part of the application. You? It's nice to be in touch with someone else waiting on the same department, I haven't seen many Nutrition people on here!

Same! That was the last thing I got from them and it was two months ago =(

Yeah seriously I think you may be the only other person I've seen. Where else did you apply?

Today my Opus Account for Emory updated to "Pay Admission Deposit" but no other email and if I click on "view online decision" it has nothing. Hoping it's good news 🙂.
Once that shows up, your letter should in a few hours. Congrats!!!

Once you submit, they want you to FAX it. I think. If you look at the latest e-mail via OPUS, I clicked somewhere and it said to put your student ID on top of every page and then fax it. I thought, dude, really? Apparently!

Edit: In unrelated news: My last year on the right side of 30 starts Friday. All I want for my birthday is to get into Emory or BU. And to not get rejected on my birthday. SPH Gods, please. PLEASE.
I think that's only if you want to submit directly to them versus through the FAFSA itself. Good luck!

Ahh, I just got the pay admission tab too, but with everyone talking about Emory being sloppy lately, I don't believe it.

Congrats!! Where does that show up? Under finances? So exciting for you!!

Not only did I get an acceptance email from BU today, I just saw the Pay Admission Deposit link on OPUS. That's a sure sign that I'm in, right? OMG I can't believe this. This is a really emotional moment for me. 6 months ago I was on the brink of suicide. Fortunately I got help before it was too late. Now I'm being offered these opportunities. For the first time, I'm glad I didn't give up then.

Congratulations! Things always have a way of turning around. I'm glad you weathered the storm and are ready to take on an MPH at an amazing school!

I haven't received an admission decision yet, but to check your admissions status you have to use the main menu > self service > student admission > admission status pathway. I made it to the page that you're looking at originally before I realized it was the wrong location.

I recevied an email from UT-Houston with congratuations on my acceptance a couple of weeks ago. I tried that other way, and my status is listed as 'Completed'

Should I call them about that or no?

Finally getting around to posting!

There’s hope for those with a low GPA and horrible GRE scores if you write a kick-ass SOP with a clear focus and have great references!

Yeah, I laughed the first couple of times because the wording is so ridiculous. "You have outstanding items and there are consequences to completing these items late, but if you've already completed these items disregard this email because we won't update the status of these items until mid February."
Now that I've gotten this email like four times, it's less funny.
That reads like a rejection letter to me; that is it would lead me to reject the idea of investing my time, effort and money in that program. Unbelievable...

Congrats! You also have a pretty awesome set of experiences!

P.S. Hello NEWMAC buddy!

Ugh. Second rejection - Emory.
Congrats everyone on your acceptances though!

Yes the letter did come. Accepted to BSHE. A total relief. I'm excited for the next steps. I'm OLD, so it's a very different set of decisions, plans and implications. It seems like a very robust year for applications so I wish the best to everyone.

I just got my acceptance letter today from Emory too! Epidemiology department. I am OLD too (45) so we can be the old, wise ones.

I just got the good news from Emory too! Global Health for me 🙂

Just got an e-mail from BU - I'm in! Admissions package should arrive in 7-10 days. I guess the SPH Gods were with me today. There's only one February! How nice of my favorite Boston boys will be throwing a parade to celebrate my accomplishment on Wednesday.

Many congratulations to everyone else who had good news today. Let's hope our good fortune spreads!

Congratulations to everyone who received acceptances yesterday!

Where does it says "Pay Admission Deposit"???

To anyone else who is curious, this is where to look for the infamous Pay Admission Deposit link on OPUS:

I would definitely call them. It seems like a lot of people are having the same issue as you. It's probably just that their system hasn't been updated yet, but it couldn't hurt to confirm.

Congrats to everybody that got acceptances yesterday! It looks like there were a lot of decisions given out. Fingers crossed that the next few days keep going that way!

Yeah I e-mailed them and told them I completed the FAFSA and asked them if they had not received it. Basically, "I did this, why have you sent me 3 e-mails since asking me to complete it? Did you not get it?" Their response was that they won't update the status until February 6 (I think? Something like that). What???

Education is unbelievable. The only thing you can spend so much money on and get **** customer service! 🙂

I had a busy day yesterday. I was rejected from Vanderbilt which came as a shock but I wasn't too disappointed. An hour or two later I was accepted by Emory's HPM program in an email which was very nice to hear. I didn't check OPUS yesterday before the message so there may have been an update on there before the email went out. Hopefully I will be deciding between there and Hopkins or staying in my current job in March-April.

Hey!

I'm one of the unfortunate souls who is still waiting to hear back from Emory. I check OPUS about 47 times a day, but more and more people keep receiving decisions and its making me a little nervous...

I'm considering emailing them... It has been over 6 weeks since my application was forwarded to my department.
Any thoughts?

Excellent! Another "mature" colleague.... Will you be going full time? I'm planning to do 2 classes in the fall and see how it goes. I'm taking a class at Rollins as a special standing student now and there are times when having some "life experience" does help. The professor had to explain in depth co-pays, deductibles, FSA accounts to the class since about 2/3 had yet to really ever deal with health care expenses, let alone selecting health care.

Yeah seriously I think you may be the only other person I've seen. Where else did you apply?

UNC is the only program I applied to, so all eggs in one basket for me! I actually applied to grad programs last year and was accepted to Colorado State for the MS nutrition/RD and Tufts for the MS/MPH nutrition (no RD) and was waitlisted then rejected from UNC. After a LOT of reflection, turns out the other two programs at Tufts and CSU were not what I wanted. I just wasn't quite aware of that when I applied - I did a lot of volunteer work between applying last year and this year and have settled hard on an MPH/RD being the right track for me. And for academic/research and personal reasons UNC is by far the best fit for me. That was probably more information than you wanted but...that's my story. haha

Are you applying just to other RD coordinated programs or non-RD programs? What's your background, did you do dietetics undergrad or are you a career changer (like me!)?

I haven't heard anything yet either (today marks seven weeks for since my application was forwarded). What department did you apply to? I'm hoping that more decisions get released this week. It seems that most people who applied to concentrations that go through two departments (myself included) have not heard anything yet.

I applied to Epi and GLEPI (even though I know you're not supposed to do that) and Global Health as my third option. I'm not quite at week 7 yet, so maybe I will wait a couple more days before I start bombarding them with emails.

This is week 7 for me and I got my decision yesterday from Emory. Hopefully you will hear soon!
Thats good news! Hopefully it will be soon!

I also applied to Glepi (1st choice) and epi (3rd choice)! I figured it'll probably be somewhere between 6-9 week turnaround since it has to go through two departments. I'm anxious, but I'm trying to not let myself worry...yet. This is just pushing it closer to the Columbia decision timeline anyways, so it's not too much of an issue to me.

Wow! That would scare me having all of my eggs in one basket, I wish you the best of luck! That's really cool that you figured out what would be best for you and then decided to put all of your effort into that. Thanks for the information, it's interesting to know what other people are doing.

I applied to four coordinated RD programs. I decided the RD credential was important to me and it's much more difficult to do it independently as I'm sure you know. My university actually didn't offer a major in Nutrition and I decided that was what I wanted to focus on after I started as a Freshman. So, I majored in sociology, minored in nutrition and took all of the grad school prerequisites as electives.

When did you find out you were wait listed to UNC last year?

Yeah it's definitely a stressful situation, but I have some backup plans if it doesn't work out in my favor. 🙂

So from what happened last year I don't think UNC actually has a formal "waitlist." Around the middle of March after still not hearing anything I emailed the coordinator asking about the status of my application and she said my application had been placed on "hold" while they waited to hear back from the students to whom they had extended offers. It wasn't until mid-April before I got the official rejection (right around the deadline for accepted students to make their decision). From reading posts here and on gradcafe from last year and previous years, I think they begin sending out initial acceptances/rejections mid- to late- February and then accept/reject as they go through the "hold" pool until they fill the 24 spots. That is completely conjecture on my part so don't take it as truth, but that's what I saw happen last year.

Best of luck to you on your pending decisions! Do you have a top choice?

I'm in the same position. It's been 7+ weeks for me so I emailed the department ADAP for Global Epidemiology in hopes of finding out some information. She replied back to me today and said that my application was still under review in the Epidemiology department and hadn't even been sent to the Global Health department yet. She didn't give me an updated timeframe and just apologized for delay.

That's strange that the application is still being reviewed by the same department after 7 weeks of submission, but who knows, maybe they just had a lot of applications this year? Hopefully we all hear back from them soon. The anxiety is so real right now. Here is the link to contact info for the department ADAPs that the admissions staff gave me - http://www.sph.emory.edu/rollins-life/adaps/index.html .

Interesting. But good to know for those of us still waiting. Hopefully that doesn't mean we still have another six weeks to wait. I wonder if they put the glepi people in a different "stack" and review them later than the epi applicants?

I hope not! And that's what I was thinking too. But I personally know a few people who have already received their acceptances to the GLEPI program so I'm not sure...

Well epi does get a very large amount of applicants, so maybe it is just that they haven't gotten to ours yet! I'd imagine that it'll move faster once it makes it to the global health department.

Hopefully you won't need the backups and you'll get accepted to UNC this week!!

Thanks so much for the information, that's a really useful timeline. It's a bit odd that they don't tell you you're on the waitlist though.

Thanks! Yeah my top choice is the University of Washington by quite a bit. I just had a bad interview with them though and I don't know what my second choice is! I'm hoping the interview won't be too important.

This is week 10 for me since I submitted my application and week 7+ since I received the "application received" and OPUS login info email. My choices were also GELPI, GH, and GEH.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what makes you think you had a bad interview? I ask only because your experience/observations might be of some benefit to the rest of us.

Sure! It's a bit tough to explain but I was simply unhappy with the way I answered the questions. I unfortunately felt very nervous on the phone and as a result, I was not able to think very clearly. So, when they asked me a question, I just said what came to my mind. What I was able to come up with did a poor job a reflecting me and my goals and fully answering the question in my opinion. I just think I could have done a lot better and I was disappointed with my performance. I hope that makes sense. If you have any questions about it let me know =)

For anyone who applied to Tufts, I got the email that I will be able to log in to see my admissions decision. How long did it take to get that information?
