MPH Fall 2015: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is super nerve wracking. Tufts university update if anyone applied.

Tufts sends an email saying an admission decision has been made (I received one today) with the following text:

"Within the next few days, you will receive an email from "Tufts University Admissions" at [email protected] with the subject line "Tufts Username and Password." That email will contain log-in information to our Application Management website. Through this site, you may view your admissions decision letter and move forward in the admissions process."

How long did it take to get that information?

Looks like March will be a busy month for a lot of us! Currently planning on visiting Emory and Berkeley. Not sure about GW or Tulane. Their open houses/preview days are on the same weekend. I would need to fly to New Orleans whereas DC is only about a 4-5 hour drive. I saw that Emory offers the option of staying with a current Rollins student for the nights of the open house weekend, which is pretty cool.

I'm anxious to hear back from Colorado School of Public Health! I applied for Environmental and Occupational and my second choice was maternal and child. I noticed from last years thread the first acceptances came around Valentine's day.

Has anyone heard from them or have any idea when we might be hearing back from them?

You should visit Tulane next weekend for Mardi Gras and then make your decision based on that haha I'll be there!

I'm in the same position. It's been 7+ weeks for me so I emailed the department ADAP for Global Epidemiology in hopes of finding out some information. She replied back to me today and said that my application was still under review in the Epidemiology department and hadn't even been sent to the Global Health department yet. She didn't give me an updated timeframe and just apologized for delay.

That's strange that the application is still being reviewed by the same department after 7 weeks of submission, but who knows, maybe they just had a lot of applications this year? Hopefully we all hear back from them soon. The anxiety is so real right now. Here is the link to contact info for the department ADAPs that the admissions staff gave me - http://www.sph.emory.edu/rollins-life/adaps/index.html .

I called last Monday and they told me the same thing. I applied back in October. I had expected to hear back by now because applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The wait sucks!

I spoke to CU Denver last week about scholarships, but that is all I've heard so far. There is a Feb. 6 deadline for the Hoffman and Albino scholarships.
I'm anxious to hear back also. If you hear something, let us know!!

Rejected from Minneosta. Email was nicer than Pittsburgh. Congrats to all who got in!

Just got an e-mail about the Summer Session in Public Health Studies from Harvard. They say that it's independent of my admission decision, but I find it odd that they are sending something like that out.

They have a list of people who plan on going to school... easy marketing, I guess. I got it as well and assume that everyone who applied got it.

Has anyone who's been accepted into Emory receive their official their official in the mail acceptance letter/ package yet?
If so, is there any information on scholarships if you submitted your application before the scholarship deadline?

Also, I have not submitted my FAFSA/ fiancial aid stuff yet, but just to be clear that has no bearing on scholarships, correct?

Has anyone heard from Yale SBS? I called last week and admissions said they should be sending Yale decisions out in the next 2 weeks.
Hey I applied to chronic epi mph but hasn't heard anything back either... And I applied pretty early (Sophad submitted in mid November)

I heard back from their CDE program around two weeks ago. But, I applied mid-november.

For anyone who applied to Tufts, I got the email that I will be able to log in to see my admissions decision. How long did it take to get that information?

for those that are getting this message from Tufts, when did you apply?

Accepted to USF - Epidemiology/Global Communicable Diseases and Accepted to West Virginia University School of Public Health - Epidemiology

If you don't mind me asking, when did you apply to USF?

Oh, thank goodness for the update!!! Thanks for letting us know. Still waiting. Applied 12/1 (was already verified).

Has anyone heard back from the Johns Hopkins MSPH program? Now that I've heard back from every other school except them it's making me even more anxious to hear back! I just want to be able to finalize where I'll be going already...

Nothing yet. I applied in November... and it's been way past the 8-10 week mark.

Which MSPH program did you apply to? I did the MSPH in health policy

October 3rd . Verified October 10th
I guess I shouldn't expect anything soon then. My SOPHAS app was forwarded to USF on 12/29, I took the GRE on 1/15 and received a confirmation letting me know my app had been forwarded to the department on 1/27.

USF is definitely my top choice. The epi/communicable disease program has the exact concentrations I'm looking for in a graduate program and I'd end up with instate tuition. Just concerned my 149q will drag me down.

Thanks for the reply!

You might hear something sooner than you think, you never know. I wouldn't worry about that 149q unless you can't overcome it with the rest of your application. (S.N. I actually had a 148q)
Good luck!!!!!

I applied to that program too and haven't heard anything! Dying to know...

All those for Hopkins inquiring about the MSPH, I don't think they will be released soon. From their website it says applicants can expect to hear back in late March (although that's not for the MSPH program but I assume they are similar) and from my contact there this timeline seems consistent. However, grad cafe does indicate some decisions being released for other departments... so not entirely sure.

Just got an email recommending me for admission to UNC's MPH Nutrition-Dietetics program!!

You got in?!?! CONGRATS! I applied for the same program and haven't heard anything, so I'm crossing my fingers that means I could be wait-listed. So excited for you, what a relief to be in! Would you mind me asking - did they update your Apply Yourself portal?

I applied for their Population, Family, and Reproductive Health MSPH program just last week. I'm not sure for the other departments, but the deadline for this one is May 1. I figured I wouldn't hear from them until around April.

Not sure about MSPH, but I know that for ScM and MHS, JHU's epidemiology department doesn't even start looking at applications until after February 1st. I don't think the 8-10 week thing is accurate if you applied before December.

I applied to this program as well! Best of luck to you. My app was "sent to department for review" on 1/21...do you think it's too much to hope to hear back some time in March? I was thinking they certainly should respond by 4/15 so we can meet the deadline to respond to other schools' offers, but maybe not...

I got accepted into Yale MPH. Just to let you know my timeline.

SOPHAS Verified- 9 Oct.
Yale sent an email saying they received my application- 5 Nov.
Yale Acceptance Email- 23 Jan.

Hope this helps guys!

Thank you!! I hope you guys get the good news soon as well! They have not updated the Apply Yourself portal. I just got an email recommending me for admission. So technically, I haven't even gotten in yet.

Excellent! Another "mature" colleague.... Will you be going full time? I'm planning to do 2 classes in the fall and see how it goes. I'm taking a class at Rollins as a special standing student now and there are times when having some "life experience" does help. The professor had to explain in depth co-pays, deductibles, FSA accounts to the class since about 2/3 had yet to really ever deal with health care expenses, let alone selecting health care.
I will be going full time. The company I work for will let me work part time remotely so I'm trying to figure out if I can work that in also. Giving up my salary and going into poor grad student is going to be TOUGH! I'm taking a couple of classes at the local college here just to get back into the swing of classes, studying, etc. It's been a long time. 🙂 How do you like the atmosphere at Rollins?

I applied to JHU ScM Biostat and they emailed me on 1/22 asking for unofficial transcripts so that they could evaluate my application. They said it takes admissions a long time to forward the apps to them so if your program is not a sophas app that may be a reason for the delay.

I find the atmosphere great, lots of different things happening, interesting professors and guest speakers. Beautiful facilities. International. BTW I listened to the "You've applied now what" webinar last night. Nothing earth shattering but some useful information. Sounds like Visit Emory will be very interesting even if you are familiar with the school.

Anything useful from the webinar that you may be able to share? I really wanted to listen in, but was stuck at work.

They mentioned on the webinar that they recorded it and will be posted on Emory's Youtube Channel in about a week so you can listen to it on there. Everything was pretty straight forward, the interesting thing I got out of it was also about Visit Day. You can choose to sign up and stay at a current student's apartment/ house during it. Which is pretty cool. I'm more excited about the one in an hour with the Global Health program. I just wish I have my decision from Emory! It's going to be a while I'm sure. My application wasn't sent to the department until January...

I hadn't heard that they would be posting it to their YouTube channel. Good to know. Hopefully they do the same with the financial aid one that they are having tomorrow.
