MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Today marks 8 weeks since I applied to GW... Idk I called and Im still in review. I did apply to Physical Activity and no one has applied to that on this forum but should I just give up hope haha

I think this is one of those no news is better than bad news situations. You called them today? Isn't GW closed bc of weather?

A few days ago and they said I'd know in the next week.... But I haven't

I just got into Tufts MPH program!!! I was randomly checking my online application portals just now (like I have obsessively-compulsively been doing for the past several weeks lol) and the acceptance letter was right there! I hadn't received an email yet or anything. I'm assuming because it's only 9 am on Monday but I definitely didn't expect a decision so fast. YAY I'm so happy! It's my first acceptance! Someone wants me!! lol 😀
Congratulations ! What portal are you checking ?

Has anyone applied or had any correspondence with UIC? I'm curious what the decision turn around time is like

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile app

UIC was the first school I applied to WAY back in October and I have heard nothing.

Congratulations ! What portal are you checking ?
I applied to a dual degree program so it was through the Slate portal. I'm not sure if the MPH only program is the same cuz I think applicants submitted directly through SOPHAS(?) I just got the email about 45 min ago. I'm sure you'll hear back soon!

I'm freaking out...just got an email that i was recommended to be admitted to UMD's MPH Health Equity program. Second acceptance 2 days in a row 🙂 To all those with less than average or not so perfect GREs or GPA scores, just know theres hope!!
Recommended for admission to University of Maryland for Health Policy MPH! I also like the previous poster have average GPA and GRE :soexcited:
Congrats to both of you !! I'm a current first year MHA student at UMD so if you need any commentary on the school of public health at UMD let me know. I can't comment with much specifics on the Health Equity program as the incoming class will be the first but I have had the privilege of meeting the man who sort of spearheaded the whole thing and he is amazing.

Anyone know how long it is currently taking to get your application verified? I am afraid that I might have applied too late to Berkeley.

Good luck Everyone!

*Edit: SOPHAS application was verified two weeks after so I made my deadlines! I also added community-based programs.

I forgot to post, but I was accepted to University of Michigan Global Epi on Friday! :soexcited:

I just saw the Pay Admission Deposit link on Opus!!!!! I've heard back from all the schools I applied to. I wish all of you the best of luck!

Congratulations!

To anyone who is still waiting for Emory, my OPUS account just changed? Apparently, my screen has three different applications under the RSPH instead of one (I'm assuming for my respective choices), but no sign of a decision or an email about forwarding my app? Not sure if that's an indication of anything at all. So I'm assuming those of us who applied late Dec/early January should be hearing back in the next week or so.

I'm slowly tallying the amount of times my heart starts racing whenever I check online, bahahaha.

A while back, I read all 86 pages of the Fall 2015 thread and noted down the dates that people got admission notifications. So far, it has correctly predicted the dates of when I would hear back from my 4 schools, give or take one day due to some days falling on a weekend this calendar year.

Minnesota: 1/7, 1/13, 1/16, 1/29 (I heard back on 1/3)
GWU: 1/4, 1/6, 1/12, 1/13, 1/30 (I heard back on 1/4, spot on!)
Emory: 1/6, 1/18, 1/26, 1/28, 2/2, 2/4, 2/11, 2/21 (I heard back on 1/19, one day off)
Boston: 1/21, 2/2, 2/12 (I heard back on 1/22, one day off)

Here are the upcoming dates:

Columbia: 2/6, 2/10, 2/25
Berkeley: 1/29, 2/9, 2/14
Michigan: 2/11, 3/1
UNC: 2/13, 2/18
Yale: 2/6
Washington: 2/9, 2/19
JHU: 3/4, 3/19, 3/31

Some takeaways: Last year, Columbia had a huge spurt of decisions released on the first Friday of February. If nothing major has changed, we should expect the same this year. Johns Hopkins takes their time with decisions. They do get the most applications though so its understandable.

Hope this helps someone!

That's awesome! Thank you for sharing!! Did you basically look at when people had applied (similar to when you applied) and look when they heard back?

This does not take into account the date of when you applied or what program you applied to so proceed with caution when using Montreux Admissions Predictor ™.

There are some schools where the applied data doesn't really affect the decisions date. I can attest to that with Emory. There were some students who submitted everything in November and I myself had the application in mid-December yet we both heard on the same day. I expect the same thing to happen with Columbia and U of Washington.

anyone know when yale and columbia start giving out decisions?

Yale: I was told 3-4 weeks after the school receives your application. For me that was Jan4, and they told me to expect a decision last week of Jan or first week of Feb.
Columbia: Said the same thing to me as mph_app_529. Mid Feb and Mid March.

With Emory and a few others I'm getting the feeling it's about the program you applied to more than when you applied

@healthismypassion1234 Historically, Yale & Columbia always give decisions out in February and again in March. Several people, including myself, have confirmed this on this thread already. Same information can be found on their websites.

Today I got the official acceptance letter from BU. They offered me a merit award of 15K. I was initially excited, but after checking the tuition....😵
Do you guys know when and how Emory releases their scholarship offer? Do they just post it at OPUS?

I just checked Wolverine Access and it says a decision has been made and that I will be receiving an email. This is very likely a rejection. I cannot say I am at all surprised.

For anyone who has already been accepted, about how long did it take you to hear back from Boston University?

& Yale if anyone can answer!

Thanks 🙂
Took me a full 2 months to hear from BU. Haven't heard from Yale yet.

Hey everyone I received an email from Emory about my OPUS login 2 days ago, I've been trying to create a login but it won't work. Any idea how long it takes to be registered in the system? Thanks!

It shouldn't take too long, I feel like. If you keep having problems, if you go to try to login again, I think you can call Emory IT or email about it?

Wow those were EXACTLY the same thoughts I had! I sent an email last night to get a little more info about it, especially the timeline and the SoP thing but I haven't heard back yet. Also, one of my professors at George Mason works at GWU also and is in the global health department so if I ever get back to school from this snowstorm I'm going to try to get some information from her.

I applied for the fall semester, and because I sent new transcripts my application timeline was basically reset so I'm only two weeks in so I have a little more flexibility on that than you. But same with the SoP, I wrote mine about a domestic, chronic issue and really want to send a new one if I can! I feel like it would be easier to get into this program because it's new though, and they need students to establish it?

I called about the new program and found out that they will allow us to submit a new personal statement if we'd like to switch but most people haven't submitted a new statement. They also mentioned that admissions is taking into consideration that this was a new program and last minute switch. In regards to if it would be easier to get in, I don't think so. They're basically looking for the same level stats here as epi. I asked about wait time and if I switch programs, after I formally request to be switched, I have a new 6-8 weeks of waiting ahead of me. Also, the department of global health will be making the admissions decisions for the program.

I think it's a pretty cool program but I don't think I'm all in to switch.

Still waiting on Emory.....*twiddling thumbs*

Surprisingly, the longer I wait, the less patience I have. Sigh. Anxious about Emory and GWU. and in a week or two I can start worrying about Columbia too lol 🙁

When did you apply to Emory?

When did you apply to Emory?
I sent a verified application on December 27 but didn't get a received email until January 6. 🙁 I knew I should have sent Emory out earlier but I'm working two jobs 7 days a week & there was a massive WES hiccup for my Masters so that was the earliest date..... Yeah I'm going to be worrying about Columbia too but at least that was sent December 10. We should have a twiddling thumb/alcohol waiting group.

Has anyone heard from Colorado??
I heard from them on 1/15 and I applied on 12/28, my GRE scores got to them around 1/7
This is for MCH though, I think it's different for different programs

Do you guys know when and how Emory releases their scholarship offer? Do they just post it at OPUS?

For those who applied and had no outstanding items by the priority deadline, January 5th, I think merit should go out in Feb/March? I felt like last year, a lot of folks got emails early Feb and into March but someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I want to say they email or it would be on OPUS since all your financial aid would be posted on there once the FAFSA and such is processed?

Random question: Did anyone add news stories they were in on their CV or in their Activities? I'm tempted to send an updated CV to Emory. Reason I'm asking is because I totally blanked and forgot that I was interviewed by the Emory News Report for the work my teammates/friends did in the Office of Health Promotion, and there may be a possibility that a program I'm in for an activity in the future I already added on SOPHAS is going to be on NPR? It may not be worth it at this point, but I'm tempted to add it to my Activities. Any thoughts?

Since Harvard tends to be a reach school for almost everyone, I suggest applying to your safety school too just in case. You NEVER want to put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to grad school admissions.

Oh I TOTALLY agree - it was a decision based on NOT leaving Boston and is reflective of how I do things. Since I didn't have a fall back that I wanted to go to, I didn't apply  This is a unique approach but very much so me. Good luck my friends!

According to gradcafe admissions results forum, someone heard back from GW epi on Jan 23...

I added that I was a speaker at an international public health conference in my CV (I almost forgot to before I sent mine in, tbh - luckily I remembered at the last minute and updated it). I think you should update it if you can! Leave no stone unturned
