MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got the long-awaited, not-sure-what-this-means-about-admissions financial aid survey from Columbia! Anyone else?
Thank you for the alert! I just checked my email and got it also!

Did everyone else who got it fill it out immediately? Does it require additional documents or is it something you can fill out on the spot?

For anyone wondering about Michigan that didnt make priority-- I was verified 1/4 for HBHE-- called yesterday and I just went under review last week. They said in the next week/week and half. Patiently awaiting!

Yupp just received and filled out the infamous financial aid survey from Columbia. hoping it's a good sign!

Thanks! I haven't finished my FAFSA yet so I hope it doesn't impact my fin aid if I don't submit my EFC with this.
I haven't submitted mine yet, but oof, I'd worry about that too! If only my employer would give me my W2s already...

I saw that too but a tiny part of me clings onto some hope that a kind soul in the admissions office would "accidentally" release decisions to put everyone's anxiety at ease. lol such nice dreams. But you're right... just gotta find something to occupy my mind for the time being. +pity+

It'd be interesting to hear where people's top choice(s) are right now based on the decisions they've received already. I'm torn between my current two (BU and Tufts). Even though they're both in Boston, they're fairly different programs.

I'm leaning towards GWU! I love the location, the opportunity DC has to offer, and from what I've heard the epi/biostatistics faculty is very helpful. I heard they have a great sph career services office that's awesome with finding internships/jobs.

For those of you who are worried about FAFSA, I would say submit it now, and go back and fill out the tax information later. That's what I did.

Just got into UCLA for Community Health Sciences!! After refreshing email constantly for days, it comes in at 5:55 am while I'm just getting up for work. So relieved!

I just got accepted yesterday too!!! Definitely burst into tears, I was so relieved that I got in somewhere. It's my first response back from a school, and first acceptance! Woohoo!! Congratulations on your admittance 🙂

Oh congratulations! I can't begin to imagine how relieved you must be.

What's everyone's opinion on how likely it is that Columbia will follow last year's trend and send out decisions on the first Friday of Feb? I'm going crazy checking my email

From what I've seen it appears most schools have been pretty close to last year (or even earlier, in a few cases). I'll cross my fingers for you.

I got an acceptance email on Monday, said they would send an official acceptance package in the mail in the next week!

I emailed Columbia and they gave me the same answer they sent me a month ago when they were confirming that they received my application. They said that decisions would be send out in mid-February and mid-March. Welp. That's helpful. Lol.

I figure I've been accepted to Emory Global Epidemiology yesterday after receiving a congratulatory email from the faculty and the FedEx email, even though nothing has showed up on OPUS!
But still no word from Michigan...I submitted right before the priority deadline so I'm guessing it might be a rejection. :sour:

Congrats on your acceptances! May I ask how you heard from UW? Seattle? I applied to their MPH/RD program, had an interview Friday 1/22, and haven't heard anything yet.

Colorado's wait is killing me.... anyone else apply to the Physical Activity concentration??

I interview on the last day (2/1) and they said the committee was meeting soon, and we would be hearing the second or third week in February.

@ash200 Congrats on all of your acceptances thus far! When were you accepted to Brown (if you don't mind me asking)?? That is my dream school and I have been refreshing my email like crazy hoping to get a decision from them!

Not exactly sure, I thought I heard mail, but they could have said email, the connection wasn't super clear.

The decision will be communicated via email and also posted on the application website. Sorry for the confusion, my previous question was aimed at someone else who said they were on the waitlist at UW and I was asking how that status was communicated, I just tagged the wrong person.

So I've been lurking for months... but I figured I'd post...

I was really worried about getting in with my lowish overall GPA. I am Also a Minority (Mexican American) and a First Generation College Student. SO... When I got the calls from these schools I about died. I burst into tears.

Thank you all SO much... Seeing everyone here go through the same thing has been so helpful. Goodluck to all of you! I am still hoping for my reach schools, Emory, GW, Columbia... but I have to let Loma Linda know by the 9th... and Since I'm in CA and Christian... It's hard... I do need some advice for that. I still am torn... Tufts, Pitts, Loma Linda are all great schools... We all face hard decisions. Good luck to you all!

Hey everyone! Just FYI, I did receive a scholarship email from UTHealth yesterday night!
I was accepted on 01/15.

Good luck to everyone still waiting on that!

Congratulations! I am still waiting.. But the chance doesn't seem pretty high.
Can you briefly share your stats if you don't mind? It would be helpful to future applicants as well. 🙂

Do you mean Brown University or Washington University In Saint Louis Brown School? If the former, it seems they haven't sent out notifications yet.

I meant Brown University in Providence! And thanks... Haha I'm not sure how much longer I can take the wait!

I just logged into University of Michigan Wolverine Access and saw a new option called "Application Recommendation" -- it said:

You have been recommended for admission to the University of Michigan School of Public Health by the Health Behavior and Health Education department. Your admittance will become official upon certification by the School of Public Health's Office of Academic Affairs. Once your recommendation has been verified and confirmed, your status will be updated. Please note that you are not officially admitted until that verification has taken place.

I'm taking this as a positive sign 🙂

Hey everyone

So I got an email from Vanderbilt this morning asking for a phone conversation (its not really an interview since I was already accepted) "to talk about the distinctives of [the] program and to understand what would be required to make it possible for [me] to join the global health track in the fall."
Did anyone else get anything like this? It sounds like a recruitment call?

Also, I know Vanderbilt's MPH program isn't ranked because it's within the medical school and not a public health school, but does anyone know how it compares to Emory's? I also got accepted to Emory.

Thanks

I had a similar situation last year with the MPH@GW program. Long after I was accepted, I continued to get multiple phone calls from one of the admission's counselors trying to persuade me to accept the admission's offer. At first I thought I would, but then I got in the on-campus version into the epi program, which the online program didn't have. The calls came practically everyday after that, and they only stopped after the deadline passed and I hadn't responded. So this is not unusual. It is kind of nice to be courted though .
