MPH Fall 2017: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Heard back from GWU MPH Global Health Policy today (12/8)- yay!
Also wondering if anyone got an email from Yale recently that says thanks for your interest and a link to a personalized page. It doesn't look like the personalized page tells you anything about an admissions decision and I'm wondering if it's just a general email to everyone rather than meaning anything?

Nice! And, I got the same email with a 'personalized page' link too. I was wondering the same thing that you were haha, so I'm guessing that they sent it to everyone? It was a pretty cool/awesome thing for them to do.

For people who applied to multiple programs/departments at the same school, did you alter your personal statements/any other answers to additional questions much?

Got the email from penn 12/8, and JHU 12/9!!

Congrats on all the acceptances 🙂. Out of curiosity, when did you apply to each of your schools and when were your applications considered verified and completed? I'm trying to gauge when I can expect responses from the schools I applied to with rolling admissions processes.

I applied to all my schools between 11/1 and 11/18 (GW was 11/7 - heard back 11/17, Penn was 11/14 - heard back 12/8, and JHU was 11/18 - heard back 12/9)

Accepted into University of Michigan for Epidemiology this morning! I applied 11/21, my application was considered complete on 12/5, and I heard back today, 12/9. Quick turn around!

Yeah for sure! Just didn't help with the nervousness... I've heard that December might be the first round of decisions from them

Hey y'all

Do scholarship or aid offers come with the acceptance or do they come in later?[/

What are y'alls opinions on scholarship competitiveness?

You have a good chance at getting the 30k scholarship from Columbia, seeing both ur stats are above the 80th percentile. Emory offers crap scholarships, even for the most competitive applicants (most I've seen is 9k?) Boston will probably offer 15-30k, Vandy is extremely competitive (they favor MD/MPH candidates), Harvard is generous with their scholarships-usually half or full tuition, UNC is parsimonious with their merit aid, don't know about UNT OR UTH, but I'd pick Columbia w/scholarship or Harvard if your lucky enough to get in over any of the other schools.

Accepted to UTHealth MPH in Health Services Organization today! Surprised since I thought they waited until late Jan/Feb!

Thanks! When do you think they'll release those decisions?

It's different from school to school, obviously, but you'll probably have all your decisions by late February. You can check out previous threads for a better estimate per school though.

Anyone know if Harvard sends out an e-mail to confirm they have your application? I've received one from every other school. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, they don't. I emailed them asking if my application was complete and received a reply that it was. Based on the tone of the reply, I would not recommend you do that. If you're worried, call; they've been very nice in person and on the phone.

(not proud of this) but I looked through previous years and look at BU's calendar we should find out either the 18th/19th or the 20th/21th! (for Epi) So everyone look out! 🙂

Also CONGRATS to all the acceptances!!!

For everyone who is wondering when they will hear a decision, I highly recommend doing this. In fact, a poster from last year was the first to take this initiative, and the process was later termed The Montreux Admissions Predictor after said poster. Many people followed suit, and most got a decision around the time they expected. Hopefully this will help relieve some anxiety for you all.

Are any of you guys applying to different programs within the same school?

If my submitted personal statements are similar for different programs within the same university, do you think this is an issue? I'm worried that it could be. The academic purpose/career goals will be different, but a lot of the information (and the essay structure!) will be the same between the two essays.
At the same time, I'm really happy with how my personal statement turned out and want to keep a lot of the same material--after all, it's information I've written about myself! Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Can you specify what you mean by different programs? Like, you're applying for an MPH in multiple concentrations, or you're applying for an MPH and a completely unrelated degree?

Hey everyone! I just applied to Emory, but I'm not sure what my chances are. I have a good amount of experience in the field but my scores are a bit lower than their averages. Does anyone have experience with their program that could help me out? Also, congrats to everyone getting in to some awesome programs! 🙂

I applied to two different programs at the same school, but there is a lot of overlap between the programs, and I kept my essays and career goals similar. You probably don't need to worry about it if SOPHAS allowed you to apply to both programs. But it could seem a little odd if you had drastically different career goals in your two essays (e.g. if you said you want to be a biostatistician in one essay and a hospital administrator in the other).

I looked back at the last few of these and wasn't able to find much regarding the time tables for the MCH program at Minnesota. I got an email from them on 11/18 letting me know that I'd receive further information from the MCH program about the timeline, but haven't heard anything yet. Anyone know anything about this? Also, congrats to everyone who has received an acceptance! I'm impatiently waiting and hoping that just maybe I'll get lucky and hear something this week.

I have been in contact with Minnesota for a while and they said mine should be going out for review this week and that I'll hear back in 6 weeks, I'm MCH as well! Hope that helps! 🙂

That was very helpful! I decided to email the program coordinator this morning and she told me that they have had some issues in emailing prospective students. I was told to expect an answer by the end of this week so I'm super excited and nervous now!

Does anyone know if there is a place where I can find the employment rates for different programs, I really would like a list
Hi everyone! Just like a few other folks on this thread, I really sincerely appreciated the help I got and advice from the 2016 thread so I'd like to return the favor for this who are applying to schools this year.

If anyone is particularly interested in Emory or is worried about their app in certain areas (I was on the lower end for GPA/GRE), I got you! I'm at Emory as a first year student in the BSHE Department for my MPH. <3

May you all succeed in your endeavors. <3

I applied to Emory, its definitely one of my top choices, but I have an extremely low undergrad GPA but a higher grad GPA (in an unrelated field). Can I ask what your GPA was?

Accepted to the full-time Johns Hopkins MPH program this morning! Will be withdrawing everywhere else. :soexcited:

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted to their respective programs thus far!

Did anyone get an email from Brown about an open house on 1/12? Unclear why they would send that w/o an admissions decision?

Congrats! Can you please mention your GPA and GRE scores?

Anyone know if Harvard sends out an e-mail to confirm they have your application? I've received one from every other school. Thanks.

FYI - I just received an e-mail from Harvard confirming they received by my application (it was verified 12/9) and that is now considered under review.

Is there anyone else who still hasn't heard back from Emory regarding OPUS login info? My application was received on 11/8, so I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.
I submitted around then and haven't gotten OPUS login info myself. I don't know if I've seen someone post here that they have yet?
