MPH Fall 2017: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anybody receive a confirmation email after they submitted their Emory application? My SOPHAS was already verified when I submitted on 12/12 and they received my GRE scores on 12/14, but I haven't heard anything back from them. I'm sure they're really busy before going into the holidays, but I'm concerned I'm missing something. 😕

I submitted on 10/12 (verified 2 days later) and received an email on 11/8 stating that my application is complete. I wouldn't worry, it seems like they are just taking their time.

Nope, nothing yet! I got a similar email to the message jassaj posted a few pages ago:

"Thank you for your interest in Rollins School of Public Health. We will begin to download and process applications by the end of next week. You will receive an email with OPUS login information which will allow you to track your application materials and status. We should be able to access the same materials you have provided to SOPHAS. At least 2 of the 3 recommendations are needed for review. As long as all other materials are already submitted, your application should be reviewed with no issues."

Does anyone know how serious the Global program at Emory is about having above a 60th percentile GRE? I'm just curious.

Pretty sure it's the most competitive concentration, but that's all I know. Worst comes to worst you can do any other concentration with a global health certificate though.

I applied around mid October. I called the other day and they said they're just starting to look at applications for the fall since they just finished accepting spring 2017.

I applied for CHP, and they told me 2-4 weeks 2 weeks ago. Looking back at last year's posts, it seems like plenty of people got acceptance notices between Christmas and New Years, so I wouldn't worry just yet.

I'm not necessarily worried, just a little confused by the timeline. Yours makes sense for a Christmas answer mine doesn't lol.

Just like everyone else.... what are my chances? My GRE quant is worryingly low, this is my second attempt and it went up (was a 140 before) however my verbal went down (160 to 158).

I think the other aspects of my application are strong though?

I also have decent MCAT scores (with a slightly lower chem and physical sciences section, but everything else is above 70%) would you recommend including that in applications?

Thanks!

Best of luck to all!!

Yup, I submitted on 11/13.
I am a 4th year medical student at an international medical school. I will receive my degree in May 31st and by then I would have completed my 2nd year of clinical experience. Do you think that makes me eligible for the accelerated program? I am worried because I submitted 2 months ago and I have yet to hear back.

Accepted to Yale Health Policy this morning, and now after speaking with a friend, I'm really torn between Hopkins MPH and Yale MPH. Namely, large vs. small class sizes, perceived rigor of the two programs, and one year vs. two years (+ internship opportunities). Anyone have any insight?

What an awesome problem to have! I feel like smaller classes will give you a more hands on experience with your professors and that could only benefit you when it comes to getting research opportunities or using their connections for jobs.

At Columbia, the first semester courses are gigantic. I do wish the classes were smaller and that I could have created better relationships with professors that way. I like that my program is two years because it will give me the opportunity to "try out" a large variety of jobs and industries while in school so ensure I pick the job I know will be best for me post-graduation.

Has anyone who submitted around December 1st heard anything from Berkeley SPH beyond the request for 2nd and 3rd choice? Aside from Emory, they are the only school from which I haven't received some sort of application received/complete e-mail.

Yeah, I'm gonna echo with what @supercheeky13 and @amm13d are saying.

I think a program with smaller class sizes and more time to immerse yourself in a diversity of experiences will serve you better than a program whose main strength is a rigorous reputation. Based on my experience in my first Masters program (which was in an unrelated field), I know how important it is for future success to build relationships and network with professors and professionals in the field. I'd encourage you to pick the program that offers the best opportunities for that, both in terms of quantity and quality.

I completed my application on 11/30 and they sent me an email confirming that my application is complete and ready for review on 12/19. It said decisions will be emailed out by mid-February to early-March.

Thanks for everyone's responses. The only thing is that Yale is $42,000 for ONE YEAR, if I'm reading that correctly, which would make the program $20k more than Hopkins. 🙁

Email, but i got a "holiday email" earlier saying that their office closes friday, so it sounds like if you don't hear back tomorrow, don't expect to hear until after the holidays are over

Perhaps it's just Yale's epi program that is giving out acceptances at the moment?

Medceptiom applied health policy though. I'm worried they only emailed acceptances for xmas, but didn't email rejections to not ruin others 🙁 (I applied health policy and was verified a week before medception)

Edit: never mind, medception was verified 10/21. I was verified 11/7

Seems strange... they sent acceptances in February last year. The app isn't due until January 15th. Also I'm applying for an "Advanced MPH" (1 year) which might be a different pool.
