MPH Fall 2017: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The wait for Hopkins' decision (MPH) is killing me. I submitted my application on 12/23 and still no reply. I'm worried that I'm one of those rejections since they took too long.
Last year, there was a big wave of acceptances for Columbia that I was not included in. My acceptance did not arrive until much later and I was freaking out the whole time haha. Don't lose hope!

Also, don't forget that we just got out of a major holiday. It's possible that applications sent the week of Christmas have not been processed yet.

That's true. I suppose every cloud does have a silver lining.

What do you think of my idea of writing a letter to accompany my transcript from fall quarter highlighting some of my academic strengths. Do you think this is a decent idea or is it too out there?
I don't think that's too out there. I would call and ask for more specifics! Like, why are they requesting the grades update to begin with? In the same call, ask if it would be okay to also submit a letter to accompany the updated transcript. My experience with admissions at multiple PH schools is that they will be very upfront and honest with you. Take advantage of it 🙂

Hey fellow Bloomington-applier!

I submitted that app around Dec 1st, and heard back on the 20th. Lemme know when you hear back!! Do you know how they do things with scholarships and/or aid? I poked around the website, but couldn't find much!!

Thanks for the info! I applied Dec 14, and was informed Jan 7 they had all my application materials and it was marked complete in the UM friend account. I'm unsure about scholarships and all that, I'm from in state so I'm hoping I get some aid but definitely not expecting it! I'd email the recruiters, Mary Beth Carrol has been a really great help throughout this process for me!

Congrats! I'm interested in HBHE at UMich!
When did you apply and get an email letting you know they received your application/materials and your app was complete?
I applied in the end of November and got the Wolverine Access instructions about 2 weeks later. If there's one thing I've learned from reading these forums it's that each department is on a completely separate timeline so I would look at this with a grain of salt for HBHE. Good luck!

Has anyone heard any updates from Brown? The last email I got, regarding admission/ application, was back in November saying my app was complete and they will be reviewing apps in January. Not sure when in January thou.

Decisions have gone out in late February to mid March from Brown, most years.

Going off of what werunthis said, last year they released a majority of acceptances March 2nd and March 19th! They seem to be one of the last to send out decisions, hopefully this year will be earlier 🙂

Just heard back last night, accepted to IU! Just waiting on UMich now! Hopefully we both hear soon!

Anyone else get this email today? The email subject made my heart jump ha

We hope this message finds you well and happy new year from those of us at the NYU College of Global Public Health!

We just wanted to send you a quick note to check in and let you know that we're reviewing MPH applications as quickly as we can to get you a decision in a timely way. We know it's tough to wait to hear from us, but we really appreciate your patience as we work to review your application and others. We strive to make sure that each and every application gets an equally thorough review, so it takes us a bit of time, but we think it's important to make sure our applicants all have the same opportunity to let us know why the NYU MPH program is a good fit for them.

We expect to be releasing the bulk of our admissions decisions throughout the remainder of January and February. In the meantime, if you have any questions, or want to discuss anything, we hope you won't hesitate to write to us at [email protected].

I got this too! When did you apply?

Question: should I apply to the MPH or MS at JHU? I like that the MPH is only 11 months but am wondering if the 2 year is a better program

I totally agree, but at least we can put the pieces together if people post about the process
Hmmm I didn't :/

I've found this whole process (in all schools) to be very inconsistent in terms of who hears what and when.

An MPH is a professional degree that is a bit more versatile than an MSPH, which is more research focused. I'd say go for the MPH if you meet their work requirements.

I submitted 12/19 and still haven't gotten a confirmation email! From reading last year, Emory is super bad at communication, with some people going to OPUS on a whim and making an account only to discover an acceptance letter had been there for several days. I also saw people who emailed admissions about it and they were able to submit 2 other possible concentrations so you could try that too 🙂 Hope this helps and you get an acceptance soon!!
You're actually able to add more concentrations on OPUS so no need for the emails!

Depends what your long term plans are. At the NYC Department of Health, having a MPH is mandatory - other degrees aren't accepted

Harvard applicants, did you receive the summer institute email? Does is strengthen your application if you don't get in and decide to re-apply?

**Edit - Meaning does the summer institute strengthen your app if you re-apply. Apparently I'm not great with words today.

I didn't get an email 🙁

Hi everyone! I have a broad general question. I was wondering what everyones opinion of UCBerkeley's MPH program was. I recently got accepted into their Global Health program, and I am surprised to see that not many people here have even applied to UCB. Is it a west coast thing (lol)? Or is there something I am missing? I would really appreciate any insight you guys have. Thanks!

Just got my financial aid package from Michigan... only got a work-study worth $3k for a year, and then then the other $33k for the year are all loans... ouch.

My application was deemed complete on 12/2 🙂.

Congrats!!!! I have a quick question if you don't mind answering - did you application status say "complete" or "submitted" on the UCB portal? Mine says submitted and I am worried that it should say complete instead.. I sent in all my required documents and I had contacted them, but no one has been getting back to me about what the status should say. Thanks so much in advance!

Could anyone give feedback on what the University of Michigan and/or Columbia interview entails? I've applied to their HPM programs. Thanks!

I'm from a UC undergrad, personally they didn't offer specifically what I was looking for in my MPH so I didn't apply. Also I didn't want to write another essay since my SOP took 3 months to write.

1. They require two personal statements
2. They have the second lowest acceptance rate, almost tied with Yale (< 23%)
3. They emphasize professional full-time work experience.
4. There have been rumors of funding cuts towards their PH program.

Those are all the reasons I can think of. They do have a terrific PH program though, and It'd be tough to turn them down if admitted. They also hold the title of 'best public school in the world.'
