MPH Fall 2017: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hah! My OPUS log in information sometimes has the 'pay deposit online' link and it sometimes doesn't. The last time it was there, I clicked it and proceeded to the screen where I could fill out my credit card info & pay the $300.

It's all a bit odd.

HPM interview with Michgan today - *great* time to have the flu. I sound like a mix between Vader/ Kylo Ren
Good Luck! Could you tell us a little bit about the interview, questions asked, your experience?

It was fairly low key - I'm an international student so the time zones worked out pretty perfectly for me. I'm actually not entirely sure how to feel about it as I think the interviewer talked more than I did! The questions were fairly reasonable 1. Why HPM? 2. Why Michigan? And then some questions related to stuff that I brought up. After those two questions, I think you basically lead the interview as the questions depend on what you bring up.

Time to dig through the threads and figure out how long it takes to hear back from them.

Anyone who already got into Minnesota - how long did it actually take for a decision after that email that said it would be 4 weeks? Was it sooner, by any chance? #TooOptimistic

Has anyone heard back from UNC-Chapel Hill? I applied to a progression program (MSPH-PhD) but haven't heard/seen anything. Thank you!

Hi, for which department? I applied into the epidemiology program. It has been a long wait. I also haven't received anything after the confirmation email. Hopefully, decisions will be released during the first week of February.

Congrats! When did you apply? I'm still waiting on HB MPH so I feel like if you also applied around 11/30 then it's a bad sign for me :/

My was an approximately one week timeline and it was a week in a half. I literally didn't do anything but check my email.

My application was sent to my program on 11/17/16 and I was accepted on 12/20/16. When I got my email part way through the process, they also gave me a timeline of 1 week and it took them about a week and a half to get back. You'll hear back soon and I'm sure it'll be good news!

They should explain in their confirmation email that it will likely be 4-6 AFTER they start reviewing apps (December 15th ish). It was about 5 weeks on the dot for me. Hopefully you hear soon! Judging by your pic and username, I take it your a fellow Marylander? 🙂 It's nice to have the in-state tuition option!

Yup, currently living in B'more. It would certainly be nice to have that option, all the other programs I've been accepted to have a pretty hefty price tag.

Congrats! I have a ton of questions for you two. Hopefully you guys don't mind.
What time did you guys get your email?
Did your wolverine access update? If so, what does it say now?
And was your email automated or was it from a faculty member?
Also, you interviewed on a Sunday? I didn't know you could do that.

I got my e-mail at 11:15am Pacific time. It was an automated e-mail. In Wolverine, under Admission Application status, when I click "View Admission Recommendation," it says "You have been recommended for admission to the University of Michigan School of Public Health by Health Management and Policy.... etc." I don't have a clear memory of what the rest looked like before. Clicking on Financial Aid document status just pulls up a message that no documents are required. Financial aid award summary just shows o.00 for everything. There are bunch of scholarships listed under "My scholarship profile," with checkboxes but I don't remember if that was there before or not. Looks like I am still limited to the New & Prospective Student Center. I hope that helps!

I submitted my SOPHAS application today!!

I had the same pop-up. I hope that includes scholarships... Assuming it does

Is there anybody here who applied to MSc. Mental Health at JHU? My guess is each department has its own timeline for response. I got accepted for a Phd in Accounting in another school, but I honestly I didn't want it. Just used that as a back up in case I dont get into MPH programs. Brown is my top Choice, there are two professors who asked me to list them in my SOP. So I feel I might make it there. I think am suffering from WAIT SYNDROME lol

what makes you want to go to Brown over JHU? Just out of curiosity. I applied to both, and don't know anyone who would choose Brown over JHU haha

To get our minds out of the waiting game this weekend (and, if you're in the US, out of the political despair), is anybody considering "weird" things about schools they got accepted to or are waiting to hear from? To phrase that better, when looking at schools, is there anything outside of academics/reputation/area/financials that is factoring in?

For example, I belong to a running group that has groups all over the country and I'm tempted to choose certain schools over others if they have this group already established in the city. Also tempted to choose schools with that have my sorority from undergrad, as weird as that may sound.

Brown MPH program obviously doesn't have the prestige compared to JHU. Nonetheless, the faculty size and interdisciplinary approach is very appealing to me. Most students get to work in the lab and get some publications to their belt. Each student is also considered for 25% scholarship on top of enormous assistantship programs.

I applied to the PhD in mental health. I haven't heard anything from them, but I know one person got an interview for the PhD.
