MPH Fall 2017: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To get our minds out of the waiting game this weekend (and, if you're in the US, out of the political despair), is anybody considering "weird" things about schools they got accepted to or are waiting to hear from? To phrase that better, when looking at schools, is there anything outside of academics/reputation/area/financials that is factoring in?

For example, I belong to a running group that has groups all over the country and I'm tempted to choose certain schools over others if they have this group already established in the city. Also tempted to choose schools with that have my sorority from undergrad, as weird as that may sound.

To be fair I'm looking for places that are liberal in political attitudes. I don't want to be in a place that isn't open to all people. Also I'm young and so I'm looking for a good scene surrounding the school for breweries. I know I won't have tons of time, but a nice beer to curb the stress sounds wonderful.

when did you get your acceptance? I never got any login from Drexel to check for updates. Just an email saying decisions will be released beginning late January.
I got my acceptance email yesterday (1/28) afternoon with the subject reading "Your Drexel Admission Decision" which redirected me to the login. It looks like my portal was updated on Friday 1/27 though. You can see my profile for when I applied

Hi, for which department? I applied into the epidemiology program. It has been a long wait. I also haven't received anything after the confirmation email. Hopefully, decisions will be released during the first week of February.

It's for the Department of Health Behavior, I am assuming the wait may be longer because it is the joint program but I saw that someone from HPM heard back for the MSPH-PhD program. I am just getting anxious! :nailbiting: The program and school is my number 1 so I am waiting to hear back before I apply to my safety schools.

For those being accepted to Emory now, when did you all apply?

I submitted on 10/12. I received two additional emails stating that my application had been received on 11/8 and 12/28.

In at Emory HPM w/10K

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

Where were you able to see the 10k part? Was that in your admissions letter?

----

I also just got into Emory for HPM (submitted in early Nov). I also never got an email that my application was being forwarded to any department, but that might be because I listed only one.

Also, got into JHU on Friday for MPH/MBA. Super stoked! Now trying to figure out finances for all of these schools and hoping to visit if I can get travel grants (that's a thing, right?)

No email from Emory but I was able to view my decision letter! Got into the MPH for Health Policy & Management

These guys are not the best at communicating!

Tbh, the give away is probably the 'To Do list' - that had about 4 documents that I needed to upload for my 'admission'

Edit: Applied end of December. They received my application in early January

Same with Emory Epi!

I have a feeling my application is getting forwarded to another department since GH is so competitive at Emory. I just think I'm waiting for their better communication to tell me that lol. I was pretty much waiting on this to see if it would sway me from Minnesota and how much I like their program, but I'm taking this as a sign. Congrats to all of you on your Emory acceptances 🙂

I agree. I also applied to Global Health and I bet that it probably got forwarded to the next department.

Totally agree here! I didn't realize how competitive Global Health was, so in the exact same boat with you and @supercheeky13 🙁
I wouldn't count yourself out just yet. They made a point to say your GRE has to be above 60th percentile or admission is highly unlikely. You are, I am not lol. So just wait it out.

I personally can be okay not going there because I got into my top choice. The CDC is clearly the enticing factor for Emory, but opportunities are everywhere. Just have to go after them! 🙂

FYI - For anyone who applied to GW, I talked to Financial Aid today and they said that scholarship recipients have not yet been notified and that those notifications should be sent out later this week.

When I met with the Financial Aid officer back in December, he said that merit scholarships are often awarded to those who have a combined Quantitive and Verbal score of 300 or higher, and a minimum 3.5 GPA.

I'm trying to decide between the MPH program at JHU vs. Harvard's online/on campus MPH in Epidemiology.
The reason I applied the online/on campus MPH program at Harvard is that it allows me to stay with my husband while I am studying despite I have some concern about an online degree.
Besides, Harvard only offers 3 weeks of F-1 visa, so I need to change back to an F-2 in order to stay with my husband in the US.
Given the current situation towards foreign visitors, I am afraid the frequent change of my visa status will be an issue for me.

For Hopkins, my reservation is its tuition fees and the living expenses for relocating to Baltimore.
Really difficult to make a decision!

Congrats! Were you accepted to the Friedman School yet? (For the MPH/MS Nutri)

Officially in at Emory for BSHE. I was verified on SOPHAS around mid-November and never got an email that they forwarded my app to my department. Just logged in today and finally the decision letter was available to read. No word about funding in the decision letter, but that's the only way I would go to Emory over my other offers, so we will see!! Either way, super exciting!! Congrats all!
