MPH Fall 2018: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Was just accepted to UCI for the MS in epidemiology. I know it’s not an MPH, but just in case anyone is wondering 🙂
Congrats! How did you hear from them (email or letter)? I applied there as well, but never got any confirmation that my app was received.

Thank you! I remember receiving a confirmation email a couple of days after I submitted my application and I heard about my acceptance through email. But I applied to the MS program which is through the school of medicine, so if you applied to the MPH, it may be a different notification system.

Hi all! Does anyone know how long it typically takes to hear back from Emory? I applied on December 5th and I have yet to receive an email that my application has been forwarded to my first program. I'm really nervous because Emory is my top choice, but I have a low GPA (Skimming a 3.0) and a higher GRE (V= 157, Q=161, AW=4.5). Thanks!

Did you receive an email from Emory stating that they received your application and included you OPUS link at least a week after you applied? If so, I received that email the other day, along with my OPUS login a week after SOPHAS verified my application on 12/8. I'm not sure when they'll send my application to my primary program

From those who have recently gotten into Emory, how long was the review process from when you received the OPUS login email to when your application was sent to your primary program and to when you gotten your admission decision?

I did get an email with my OPUS login but that is it so far.

Yeah same. I'd give it another week or so. Also, they're probably receiving a lot of applications now that they're deadline is fast approaching, which could mean that it might take a couple to few more weeks before we hear anything. Good luck! What program did you apply to?

I am applying to BSHE. Hopefully we both hear back soon!

I'm applying to HPM, but I listed BSHE as my second choice, and Global Epi as my third. I'm hoping to get into any program at Emory. lol Fingers crossed!

I had a question regarding USC's MPH program. I haven't heard much about it on these forums and I was wondering what your opinions were and if y'all recommend applying there?

Also congrats to everyone that got accepted! I haven't even applied yet so hopefully I'm not too late 😛

It's a program in public health rather than a school of public health, so there are fewer faculty, fewer degrees offered, and a less extensive network. It's within the Keck School of Medicine. I applied there as well, but it isn't my #1 choice. I haven't heard a ton about it either, honestly!

Like the person above me said...they’re a medical school, which has its drawbacks. One of my professors/advisors got their MPH and PhD there and she’s very well prepared and qualified, but it doesn’t seem like she recommends it as much as other MPH programs. Basically, I feel like it’s good, but not great. I applied there too, though.

Has anyone received video interview questions completion request from Yale??
It is to be completed via Kira Talent same app that I used to complete wash u scholarship interview. But I did not know Yale also asks you for video questions. Anybody else received the request??

Just a heads up, I got a call from Michigan's MPH program (I believe it was a faculty member) just asking if I had any questions about the program and asking really basic questions about me (where I live, what work I'm doing, what research interests I have, what professors work I'm interested in.) If you've applied/been accepted to Michigan, maybe just have a list of questions for them saved in a note on your phone. They gave me no head's up so I was completely unprepared and couldn't think of any questions (and was still in bed ). It didn't seem too serious (I hope not at least) but it would be more productive if you can actually think of questions you have!

The same thing happened to me with SLU! I was in bed sick and answered the phone sounding like I was dying so the admissions contact was just like ...yikes...

Same happened for John Hopkins! The professor I mentioned in my PS who is doing research I'm into called me and basically talked about the program, asked if I had any other questions, and also lowkey wondered where else I was applying. I was so awkward omg

Also: just got a call from Boston about my incomplete application

Received mail today. USD 20000 international scholar award from Boston University. I am happy but Still the cost of living and tution are too much for me

I haven’t heard anything from Boston yet and am getting kind of anxious because that is one of my top schools. My application was considered complete Dec. 1st

what date did you apply/submit to BU?
My application was completed 20 October. I received the acceptance email on Friday and now the full acceptance letter with scholarship info and docs by email today

Did you specifically ask them to send your full letter/scholarship info via email? I'm waiting on pins and needles for the physical letter! 🙁

Has anyone heard anything about Upenn's MPH program? I can't find much info on it

No I did not ask them to email. On Friday they said I will receive acceptance package by snail mail but today I received the email

Question: One of my dad's best friends spoke to me the other day about an old college friend who is an adjunct professor in the MPH program at Columbia. He reached out to her about my application a couple of days ago. Would it be appropriate for me to send her a follow-up email to try to discuss my application? I'm applying to Columbia, and all of her experience aligns perfectly with my interests. Let me know--I'm pretty new to all of this!

Also, accepted to GWU's Epi program today! Verified on 12/14, so quickest turnaround ever!

same. I have a bad feeling
Just as words of comfort, I applied to BU last year around Thanksgiving and I did not hear back in their first wave of acceptances. I heard back towards the end of January with a merit scholarship. They just have a lot of applications to go through. Don’t get worried about not hearing back when other people do!

I've been lurking for a while, and now that acceptances have started coming in I figured I would post, in case this is helpful to anyone.

I misheard him when he said who he was so I thought it was a call from a political activist group and when he asked if I had time to talk I said "sure" very unenthusiastically and then immediately realized my mistake :nailbiting:

I'm starting to think everyone sounds bad in these calls. We need more warning!😱

Hey, I also received the same email two days ago. Was totally not expecting that. But I think I will decline their request since I already got into a better choice than Yale

What is the Yale interview for? Scholarships or admissions? What program did you apply too?

Does anyone know what's involved in the Dartmouth MPH telephone interview? Thanks!

Can you mind me asking what your top choice is?? I am accepted into JHU so am in a similar boat

I applied for the their One year advanced mph program. I have no idea if it is for admission or scholarship

It'll be either Harvard or Hopkins
I am still gathering information as to which one is a better fit
I was accepted into Hopkins and since Harvard does not release its decision until mid Feb
I guess I will have plenty of time to contemplate
