Finally accepted into Tulane's MPHTM program today!! I completely gambled with my admissions and only applied to Tulane at first because there is no better school for someone who wants to study mosquito-vector infectious disease like me. I was starting to freak out that I had made a horrible mistake in putting off my applications to other schools, so this decision could not have come at a better time! :soexcited:

Hey guys! Did anyone fill out the information on the experiences/additional experiences/achievements page? and what kind of info did you put?
I'm submitting this Friday so I am trying to finish adding the little things.

I'm submitting so late bc I wanted to retake the GRE last minute and my score boosted 4 points :)

One of my 4 years of college was completed during high school, so I noted that since it was not an option on the SOPHAS transcript entry. I also put the full names and titles of everyone I shadowed.

My JH portal looks like this and I'm freaking out! Ahhhhh!

For experiences, I put the jobs/internships/positions that were on my CV as well as volunteer work, etc. For additional experiences I described my campus involvement (I was President of a student organization and an officer in another club) and talked about being an athlete. For achievements, I listed anything award-related during undergrad (I'm only 1.5 years out of school). I got a couple of travel grants to go present research at conferences, a poster presentation I was an author/presenter on won an award at a regional conference, and a couple of other things. I imagine you could also list work-related achievements.

Typing this on my phone, apologies for any formatting issues. I’m posting this to give you guys some hope since my GPA and GRE are low.

Received my first acceptance to U-M's MPH in HBHE!

Michigan is my alma mater and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, so it's definitely very high on my list of schools. What a lovely holiday present. :D

I didn't receive an email, but I checked Wolverine Access and saw this:

"You have been recommended for admission to the University of Michigan School of Public Health by the Health Behavior and Health Education department. Your admittance will become official upon certification by the School of Public Health's Office for Student Engagement and Practice. Once your recommendation has been verified and confirmed, your status will be updated. Please note that you are not officially admitted until that verification has taken place."

So, a tip for those who've applied to U-M... check Wolverine Access!

Hi all,

I've used this forum for years to size myself up against other applicants and have never felt particularly good about my chances for admission. This year, despite my lower GPA/GRE scores, I forced myself to apply and I'm really glad I did. A message to those reading this who have felt similarly-- you'll never get accepted to a program you don't apply to!

Good luck, everyone!

Undergrad School: State school
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 3.01(SOPHAS)
GRE: 147Q 155V 4AW [1st time]; 151Q 156V 3.5AW [2nd time]
- submitted both scores to all programs¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Experience/Research (please, be brief):
- B.S. Biology
- 1 year basic science research at top tier research hospital
- 3 years clinical research coordinator at top tier research hospital
- 1 year working with start-up performing data management for clinical trials
- 1 year research assistant at top tier medical school [epi/clinical research focus]
- 3 years mentoring child from low-income family
- 1 year volunteering patient escort at hospital

Special factors:
- 1st gen. college student
- 4 strong LORs from research faculty/mentors
- Very strong personal statement (in my opinion!)
- Multiple publications
- Multiple abstracts selected for presentation at various conferences

Any clue what the Dartmouth interview involves? Thanks.

Congratulations on your acceptances! Last year, I applied and was accepted into the online MPH programs at Hopkins and Dartmouth. Ultimately, I chose Dartmouth. If you have any questions about the program, or why I chose one over the other, feel free to reach out.

I was honestly contemplating emailing them to ask when we can expect to hear back when I saw your post haha

Edit: I ended up emailing them to ask when they anticipate beginning to send out decisions. I'll let you know the result. :)

They might be out of the office until January. I got an email a few days ago saying happy holidays and that the admissions office would be closed from December something until January 3rd. I can't remember the dates though.

I received the holiday email from Yale as well. I was verified on November 3rd, so I was hoping to hear back from them before the winter office closure. Today is that last regular working day for the Yale office. Here is part of the email:

"The Yale School of Public Health Office of Admission wishes you and your family a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous new year filled with happiness, good health and the promise of new opportunities! Our office will be closed Friday, December 22 through Monday, January 1. We will reopen on Tuesday, January 2."

I did not hear from Yale until the end of February last year, but I also did not apply until mid December. Just don't worry if you don't hear back before the holidays! I am a current 1st year epi (EMD) student at Yale. Feel free to reach out/PM me if you have any questions about the program!

anyone have any thoughts on the MPH program in northern Virginia such as George Washington or George Mason?

Got rejected by two schools in a row... U-Mich and Upenn. I am losing hope for the rest of my applications. Being an international applicant is disadvantageous? Is anyone here in a similar boat?

Hi! I applied to both programs and am interested to know about why you chose Dartmouth. Can you please share?

The short answer is Dartmouth gave me a more generous academic scholarship than Hopkins. With that said, there are a lot of things I've come to really enjoy about Dartmouth's program (e.g. the small class size, collaborative community, strong professional network, close contact/support from professors).

Does anyone know when Boston will release scholarship information? I know they are saying to fill out FAFSA, but online they say they offer scholarships outside of FAFSA..

I received an email 3 days after admission decision for a one time merit scholarship of 20000 USD. May be the others can advise also as there were quite a few guys on the forum who were accepted into BU last Friday

They said merit packages will be sent 7-10 days after the admission email in the mail. I haven't gotten mine yet. I tried asking if I could get it via email and they said I could get it after the holidays once I had seen my paper copy...

I applied to the same program and got confirmed Early November. I got a call from the Director of Admissions around 3rd week of November about my acceptance/scholarship info. Got scholarship offer/acceptance letter to my email the week after and official acceptance package in mail just yesterday.
