MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anyone know anything on columbia aid - ik i just got accepted but i have a deadline to appeal at gw
It seems like they're really taking the 3-4 weeks after acceptance – I was accepted 1/26 and have not heard about aid yet.

hi all, i've been lurking on this thread but finally am posting. my plan is to get my mph before medical school and i'm wondering what matters more to med schools, program ranking or program name. for example if I got into emory (ranked 5) and northwestern (ranked 30) where would I be better off in preparation for medical school. please share any thoughts/commentary, i appreciate you all 🙂
I'm also currently debating this. I'm deciding between JHU vs. BU right now but I think I'm going to wait for financial aid and flexibility of the program with working full time before I make my decision.

Hey folks, current HSPH student weighing in.
First, in my experience, the acceptances for a program are sent concurrently. E.g., SM80 acceptances go out on the same day, PhD acceptances go out on the same day. Waitlists and rejections come within a week after acceptance. That being said, I am not on admissions committees, I am just a student.
Second, If you were accepted congrats! If you feel like talking to a current student would help you make your decision, you can DM me.

Looks like last year a mix of programs sent out decisions on the same day. Also, the schedule was different and not just Thu/Fri

Not sure if this year will the same as last.

Adding to this, Mary also said financial aid should come out 1 week to 10 days after acceptances. (currently in the same Q+A session lol)
omg i was in there too...she also said they might start releasing on days besides Wednesdays towards the end of this cycle!

Does anyone know does Emory notify you of your scholarship package and REAL Awards together? Or is it separately?
I received an email about applying for a REAL award. I am curious if you know if Emory only give out scholarships if you apply for them (wow that's a lotta "if" in one sentence)? Anyone who knows about this can weigh in. Thanks!

I really appreciated her understanding and empathy for applicants! Legit lol'ed when she joked about all of us figuring out through forums like this that Yale typically releases on Wednesdays 🤣. The down-to-earth Q+A alone makes me want to be a part of the Yale community. For us still waiting... here's hoping for good news next week!

Omg wait ucsd said they’re not releasing financial aid info until the summer????
Email was kind of vague but they said actual financial aid packet won’t be available until then but at the very least I’ll get loans to cover everything...the MPH program itself is being super vague about merit aid. All they’ll say is they don’t do full rides but like, more info please!!!

i was so shocked she knew HAHAHA but i'm glad she took the time also to reassure us

Yaaay in at Brown!!! Does anyone else's acceptance letter say "I am pleased to tell you that you have been awarded financial support from your program." - but you have no idea where to find the financial support info???
Hi! Congrats! What was your timeline?

That's what mine said! Was hoping to get an update on that today lol 😢

Hi! Congrats! What was your timeline?
got on email from Brown on 1/4/2021 saying my app was complete. Also to follow up for anyone - I also just received an email with my award info! "Public Health Impact award that will cover 20% percent of tuition" & "based on your FAFSA information we are offering you an MPH scholarship to cover an additional 10% of the tuition" so 30% off tuition total

I also just got into Brown and my letter says the same thing! Did those of you who got in and got scholarships/aid get that info at the same time or at a later date?

So if I get this right, looks like HSPH decisions on this forum stopped early afternoon and no one got anything passed 3PM (eastern)?

She was so nice! I was not expecting that at all. I was so shook when she brought up the Wednesday release dates😂 And also the fact that she said that people can reach out to her if they are wondering where their application is was so kind of her. I feel like usually schools just send generic replies saying that people should hear back soon or just that their application is still in review. What a kind soul!

If its any help, I got my official harvard email at exactly 11:22. Portal was updated an hour before - though it was a bit finicky. Just pointing out that harvard seems to release decisons much earlier in the day than Yale.

I am beginning to think that Columbia might not be consistently abiding by the 3-4 week rule, though.

Assuming that Columbia doesn’t give financial aid out on weekends (which might be a fair assumption), I’d have to get my financial aid package before the end of day tomorrow or else it passes 4 weeks of waiting for me.

That being said, maybe I just didn’t get anything, which would make my decision much easier lol

Same here, I hit 4 weeks yesterday. If I don't get anything by tomorrow I'll probably send them an email at the end of the day to remind them I exist and want money lol

Are you going to send an email or submit the form they have that says you have not received it yet?

I'll send an email! That form actually doesn't do anything if you say you haven't gotten your financial aid package yet. I just double checked and it gave me this message:
Please return to this form after receiving your financial aid package.

I remember some people were asking about how much debt MPH students can have after graduating...
I talked with a graduate from Emory who did their program only in loans; and it added up to $75K in loan debt. (They graduated 4 years ago for reference)

Hey guys just an extra tip: The United States Public Health Service offers internships for students during their graduate years. They offer loan repayment options to help grads out. I know a lot of us are freaking out on how to pay for an MPH.

I just filled out an interest form.

There was a reason why Ms. Keefe's name was mentioned yesterday. And only her name.
100% second this. I actually sent two emails yesterday, one to Mary Keefe and one to the generic Yale admissions address and heard back from the latter today. They weren't able to pick up on the issue that my application was marked complete but not in review because they were holding for a GRE score, whereas Ms. Keefe spotted the issue yesterday and corrected it promptly.

Thank you again for your advice! 🙂

Edit: This is not to say Yale SPH admissions is lacking (because they have otherwise been super responsive!), but that they as a whole are probably flooded with emails and having one individual who can look into things quickly benefitted me.

Hey I did and got in today (2/18), my app was confirmed complete on 10/27/2020. Looks like they're sending them out pretty randomly so I'm sure you'll hear back soon!
Oh wow! You completed waaay earlier than me

I just logged on to my UW online MPH application portal and saw this:

Application Status: Congratulations on your offer. The University is processing the offer, in 1 to 2 business days the decision buttons will be available to you to indicate your decision.

Is this really how they tell us? No email or anything? Trying to figure out if this is legit.

Everyone talking about Columbia financial aid and im like.................

Can you let me know if Im rejected or not? Please? lol
Mood. I had my interview like a week and a half ago but I literally applied on 11/18. I’m just sick of logging in and seeing that it’s been sent for review. At this point I just want the closure LOL

For those waiting for UC Davis: the first batch of decisions was released last week. Admissions committee still processing applications. We should hear back in the next few weeks to come.
