I was under the impression we didn't need to? That if we're accepted, they will just ask us to find a final transcript in June. This is what it says for JHU.

Is anyone able to access their OPUS account for Emory? When I try to request my password, I'm getting this error (personal information omitted):

We do not have an Emory Network ID registered for exactly one person with a birthday of **/**/**** , and with a social security number of ***-**-**** , and with a student or student applicant home email address of *********@gmail.com.

I don’t know about you, but I got the email today and it said to wait 24-48 hours after that email is sent. Maybe that’s it?

As far as I know UT Dallas does not have a public health school, does it? Are you talking about the Healthcare program?

You've got some really interesting experiences! I'd say use a wide net as your goals and perceptions of schools might change during the application process. I'd think about Emory, Tulane and UNC if you're interested in global health, and Georgetown makes sense too as there will be a lot of new policy changes and approaches post-covid to global health and a lot of that will happen in D.C.. Definitely LSHTM is a really good school, Brown is a hidden gem that will become even more popular with time, I don't know too much about Columbia, BU is uber expensive, sort of straddles the line between social work and public health but don't have the track record of a school invested in global health. Tulane and Emory are great as they are historically strong with supporting students doing global health, JHU has a lot of resources to take a multidisciplinary approach to global health (I know people who went there and loved it), definitely research the schools and see if something good stands out.

Thanks! this was helpful. I've stayed away from Tulane/unc - bc I want to be situated in a city that gives me the possible flexibility of having to go part time. I really don't want monster loans. Yeah I prefer Columbia since I have this personal interest in both health but also humanitarian issues and nyc proximity to the UN and such may help me out. I think as time went on i've realized BU may not be right for me either. I'm still conflicted with Emory because I'm not sure how I feel about Atlanta. Feel like applying to London may feel like a waste of time and money - i like the schools but it's easier to be in a familiar place.

Sorry, I am referring to UTHealth but the Dallas campus (MPH customized program).
 
When I log into my Emory OPUS portal, it tells me that my application is incomplete. Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks!

The system takes some time to catch up with itself. Mine also says incomplete, but since the applications were just uploaded yesterday, it will probably take a couple days for everything to be reconciled. The same thing happened with another school I applied to.

Mine said that too. OPUS said I was missing my official test scores, which I don't have/won't be submitting. If that's your case, they have instructions for how to indicate you won't be submitting test scores and they'll remove that missing component from the file.
 
Has anyone done the merit scholarship video interview for WashU (STL)? Was wondering how it was - would love any advice/pointers 🙂

Just got accepted by Yale for their MPH in Health Policy!! I applied on September 21st and was under review on November 16th.

If anyone can give me insight into their experiences with the program, I would really appreciate it. From my interactions with Yale, I love how individualized and supportive their program is. I also love how fast paced and focused on building professional experience Hopkins' MSPH program is. I'm completely torn between the programs (before financial aid is finalized at least) and hoping to get some guidance if possible!

I submitted my application to SOPHAS on October 16th. I received an email from YSPH on November 12th saying that they had received my application and begun the initial review process. Got my acceptance email around 2:30 PM EST today!

GRE(including date taken): Did not take, I planned to and was studying but COVID messed that up!

Experience/research: Since graduating, I have been working at an Ivy league university as a senior clinical RA for violence prevention studies; I work under a well-known ER doc who is a contributor on CNN, and she asked me to step in as program manager of one of her non-profits at the beginning of COVID when their PM left, so for the past 10 months I have been splitting my time between the non-profit (which focuses on gun violence prevention) and research

Letters of Rec:
  • My Principal Investigator/Chief Research Officer of my non-profit (ER doctor and CNN contributor)
  • CEO of my non-profit (ER doctor)
  • A PH professor I worked closely with in undergrad

I received an email with the subject line "congratulations!" - Yale doesn't have a portal!
From what I understand based on last years' decision timeline, they release batches of decisions every few weeks until March, and this was their first batch.

A bit of advice from someone who was in your shoes a year ago - if there is a school that you're "eh" on, and you can't see yourself actually picking it, seriously consider if you want to actually apply. It may not be worth the money (those applications are dang expensive! Especially if you have to send GRE scores!). For example, my whole application process I was ready to apply to JHU and Brown, until I thought more seriously about how I did not want to move away from DC yet. At first, I was like "but hey, it'd be cool to say I got into Johns Hopkins!" (if i got in) but I'm glad I thought about it more and saved myself the time and money by not applying to those schools.

That's an oversimplified situation but I did want to put in my two cents!

Wanted some opinions -
I've been contemplating applying to Georgetown as well to have a second option in the DC area but I'm not sure if there is a benefit of Georgetown versus GW if I was already accepted there. I was looking at the MS in Global health at GT vs GW MPH.

As a GW student, here is my opinion (granted, I know nothing about Georgetown's program). GW has a full School of Public Health, which means a broader variety of classes across multiple disciplines. I'm a health policy student but I can take maternal and child health or epidemiology electives if I want to.

Another option close to DC is the University of Maryland. College Park is just outside DC.

Hello everyone, and happy holiday season!

Just wanted to give advice as I applied last year for the 2020 cycle and used this forum to get through it which was a blessing. I am currently in Duke's Master of Global Health program. I was hesitant to not be in an MPH program, but the resources, faculty, people, courses, and the network is absolutely incredible. Duke's Global Health community was the most welcoming and supportive I felt among the 6 other schools I was accepted into. They also offer a great amount of financial aid to everyone and everyone gets an RA position with a very good pay rate to help with the cost of living/tuition. I have an occupational/environmental background and they have so many great classes in all fields and you can easily take courses at UNC, to other surrounding schools.

Yes they had two interview dates - one in december and one in january. It's a day that's mostly just information sessions for half and then interview sessions for the other half. interview was roughly 30-45 minutes and nothing too intensive. All the faculty are super nice
