Now that I have an acceptance I figured I'd fill this out!
Undergraduate School/School type: University of Virginia
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 3.79/3.91 major
Major/minor: Global Public Health
GRE(including date taken): Did not take, I planned to and was studying but COVID messed that up!
Experience/research: Since graduating, I have been working at an Ivy league university as a senior clinical RA for violence prevention studies; I work under a well-known ER doc who is a contributor on CNN, and she asked me to step in as program manager of one of her non-profits at the beginning of COVID when their PM left, so for the past 10 months I have been splitting my time between the non-profit (which focuses on gun violence prevention) and research
Letters of Rec:
- My Principal Investigator/Chief Research Officer of my non-profit (ER doctor and CNN contributor)
- CEO of my non-profit (ER doctor)
- A PH professor I worked closely with in undergrad
Interests: I wrote all of my statements of purpose around violence prevention from a public health perspective. At UVA I lived through the murder of Hannah Graham, the Rolling stones article "A Rape on Campus", and the Nazi rallies, and it made me feel hopeless for the future of our world. But after taking public health courses, I realized that violence can be treated like a disease, and we can use a public health approach. I am specifically hoping to focus on sexual and intimate partner violence prevention, which is what I wrote my undergraduate thesis on.
