MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone hear back from Columbia accelerated MPH in epi yet? All of my application materials were submitted in September and verified by 10/1 -- but still, nothing on the portal. Ivy grad with 3.9 GPA in the sciences, prior Master's in healthcare economics, 170/168/6.0 GRE, 5+ years of work experience.
Last year they had at least two major batches of decisions (one at the end of January and one in mid-February), it seemed pretty random whether you were in the first or second, so I wouldn't worry. Also, your stats are incredible so I cannot imagine you not getting in!

Has anyone heard from Yale Environmental Health Sciences (EHS)? I'm waiting on them with anticipation. GPA 3.8. Industry background, one publication. No GRE submitted (hope this didn't hurt me).

Those are some solid stats that any school would want you! It's more of "will he/she come to our school with such great stats or go to a better one". This is what I have heard from someone who sits on adcom, and it could be wrong. But hang in there, you will get in!

If anyone is confused about the Emory application status in the portal, I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone! My portal said I was admitted to the MSPH Health Policy last night and then changed to "App cancelled- other admit." I don't really know what that means and am sure I'll find out soon enough. It honestly would make far more sense if I was rejected for MSPH and sent to the MPH pool, because of how few applicants the MSPH takes. But I just wanted to let you know that it seems like their system is still updating!

Has anyone from Yale's last week of acceptances (1/13) heard back about scholarships yet?
I got all of my Yale admission details in December, but I can say that it took the full 10 days following notice of admission to hear about scholarships. Congrats on your acceptance!

This is why I want to take screen-shots of both Columbia and Emory, just to have some type of record that I was admitted, before the system does some crappy stuff 🙂

That happened to me as well! I email admissions to ask about it, so I will post when I hear back!

Just got the acceptance for Harvard part-time MPH for Epidemiology (online). I thought I knew what I was going to do but now really don't know.

@titoincali This is awesome!!! Congrats.... I had just asked the question on when HSPH starts sending the decisions and looks like it already has. Did you get an email or randomly checked harvard portal?

first time posting, although I've been a long time lurker!

Was ACCEPTED into UNC MPH/RD program! Still can't believe it, and I am beyond excited! I applied this year as re-applicant and was rejected last year.

Submitted my application on 12/1, verified 12/22, accepted 1/20 (although the official letter was dated 12/4)

Was notified for an update on my application portal yesterday @ UNC and saw that there was an update on my decision.

I am still in disbelieve because of the amount of doubt I had into getting into this program!! Also considering this was the only program I applied to. I had a terrible undergrad year > 3.0 (2.58.. yikes) was due to being unmotivated without a career path and just wanted to undergrad over with.

I had a terrible undergrad: GPA: 2.58 Undergrad / 4.0 post-baccalaureate / 2.78 SOPHAS Verified.
I had below average GRE scores (terrible test taker here
): 149 / 147 / 3.0

I had a a 5 year gap from when I completed my undergrad and when I decided I wanted to go to grad school. Returned to school to complete a few pre-requisite classes and retook some classes that I felt were important to the program and maintained a 4.0 GPA post-baccalaureate. Even with that 4.0 with only a handful of classes (roughly 6-7 classes) my undergrad GPA from 2.58 to a 2.78 SOPHAS verified. I hope this entourages someone who has thoughts about applying to grad schools solely based on their GPA and GRE scores. Show administration reps your wholesome interest, ask plenty of questions, use rejection as motivation, and dont give up!

Undergraduate School/School type: Cal-State LA
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: Undergrad GPA 2.58 / Major GPA 3.56 / 2.78 SOPHAS Verified.
Major/minor: Biology
GRE(including date taken): 149/147/3.0

Experience/research:
  • 1 year PSR for an Ortho Clinic
  • 1 year an Staff Assistant for Hospitals Cancer Center
  • ~ 4 years a Senior Administrative Assistant for department of Infection Control
  • 4 months of COVID relief food distribute for Red Cross

Letters of Rec:
  • Director of Infection Control
  • Nurse Manager of Infection Control
  • Microbiology Teacher taken at a community college

Interests: MPH / RD

also a big thank you to everyone in here! This forum has been such a great help during my process. 100%

I still haven't heard from Columbia (epi). I applied 11/30 and my application was sent for review 12/10. Getting nervous, as I haven't heard from anywhere I applied to yet, but gotta stay patient.

I was admitted to Columbia Epi this morning so it seems like they are releasing decisions today as well. I applied 11/23 and my last letter of rec was submitted 11/27. I hope you're accepted today as well!

I didn’t see anything about financial aid in the admissions letter or in the portal.
Oh okay. I just received my first acceptance and it is for Emory University! I am still surprised. Happy is an understatement of how I feel right now. I would really like to attend Emory but their tuition is actually pricey (for me). So I’m crossing fingers that I receive a huge amount in scholarships. I’m also not eligible to receive Financial aid because I am international.

I was accepted to HBHE on 1/8 and got the email about my scholarship yesterday 1/20.
That’s great! I was accepted to HBHE 12/10 and haven’t gotten any info about scholarships. Do you think this is something I should reach out to the HBHE department about? If so, how? I’m just getting nervous

I have no idea what their scholarship timeline looks like. I was surprised I found out so soon!

Anyone else still waiting for Columbia and Emory? I’m EH for both and I’m nervous. My GPA is low, like a 2.8 but I have solid LORs and a good SoP. I also have a lot of volunteer activities. I’m also a military veteran and currently serving.

also, I have a few rejections so far but applied to like 14 schools. Is it possible that I will get rejected from ALL of them. God I’m so nervous.

I believe that with borderline stats, you really need to show your interest in public health. If adcoms can be convinced of that, they will admit you. It might not be a bad idea for you to meet them in person. The extra effort will pay off.

I wish you the best of luck.

I submitted my Emory app on the priority deadline (1/5), but the application date on my portal says 1/6 (maybe when it was verified?). is anyone else in the same boat? I haven't received a decision yet and am wondering if it's because my app was verified a little late

In the same exact boat as you! I applied on 1/5, my application date says 1/6, but I was routed for review on 1/8 and my application in OPUS currently says Application Under Review. Would love to hear soon!

Just woke up to my official Emory acceptance to Global Health! I was told there wasn’t a chance of most grad schools with a gpa of 2.9 but I am ecstatic they could see past that! Congrats to all that got their acceptances!!!!!

Emory is great. That is why they are such a great program. They see potentials in people and give people a chance to show them.

Congrats.

I haven't received a decision yet and I applied back in November. I'm sure we'll be hearing back soon. The wait really sucks. This system is annoying :/

Hey guys. I submitted my application via SOPHAS on 1/5, application date on OPUS notes 1/6, and was accepted yesterday on 1/20. This is for the Behavioral Sciences and Health Education program. It may come sooner than later 🙂 I’m honestly surprised it was such a quick turnaround! Still waiting on decisions form two other schools.
I’m just nervous that I won’t be eligible for aid being that my OPUS date notes 1/6, yet I submitted my app on 1/5 😭😭

How would I meet them in person? I am in Philadelphia right now. Should I email them and ask about my GPA? Or should I just wait because its too late and they have already made their decisions? I addressed my GPA in my SoP and attached an addendum letter.

Got accepted to Icahn last night, and Drexel today (Epi program with $15k deans scholarship), so happy!!! Congrats everyone on your acceptances over the past few days. I probably have a bit to wait for my Columbia decision since I didn’t get my app in til mid-January, oh well...

Anyone heard anything from Columbia today? I received an email reply from admissions this morning stating my application was in the final stages of review and would received a decision shortly - that was around 11am EST

Colorado contacted me to let me know they didn't receive a transcript from the school I studied abroad at.
Do schools typically need this info? Grades and courses for that semester are on my undergrad transcript, and the only way to get a copy of my transcript (even unofficial) from my host school is to physically pick it up... so that won't be happening, lol

I just emailed Columbia, BU, Emory, and Pitt and asked them if I had a chance with a sub 3.0 GPA (2.8) I told the admissions email that I have a strong interest in Public Health. I hope this may make a difference and they haven't already made up their minds!!!

Some people I know are hearing back from UCLA MPH? Anyone else get anything? VERY ANXIOUS!!

Emailed NYU a couple days ago inquiring about decision timeline as I've been under review for two months now... No reply yet so hopefully this means they're busy reviewing applications lol

You should have done this before you applied during off-peak periods.

But it wont hurt if you try now, although I am not sure how willing admissions people would like to meet with you in person considering it is peak time for admissions. For long distance programs, request to discuss with them on the phone.

Good luck.
