MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
for people waiting on Emory scholarships listen up!! i attended a financial aid session for them this week and they said that MERIT based scholarships come out in February (this is why people are hearing back now). they said these scholarships are extremely competitive with only the top 1-3% getting money. need based aid is set to come out in march (REAL and loans). they said that NEED BASED scholarships/aid do not usually go to graduate students as it’s only merit based and loans at this point. obviously i was very sad and discouraged because i am not in that top category and i am poor lol so i was also hoping to get aid. so to summarize congrats on everyone getting scholarships from emory right now because y’all are smarty pants! the rest of us idk maybe we’ll get something but it is doubtful and we won’t know for another month 🙁 not the best news but hope this gives people some clarity at least! unsure if scholarships come in waves, i’m inclined to say no but not sure

Nothing from UC Davis yet. I didn’t know they were releasing decisions already!
Same! I talked to a TA from one of my public health classes who's an MPH student currently at Davis and she said she wasn't entirely sure when decisions would be out, but possibly March. She said she would keep me updated though. Seems like they're already coming out though-- fingers crossed we hear something soon!!

Also for anyone who was wondering about UPenn scholarships, they said if there was no mention of any scholarships received in the acceptance email, then you didn’t get one. There are other ways to fund it, but they only have a limited number of TA positions and assistantships and that you wouldn’t be guaranteed it after you accept the seat 🙁

Ooh thanks for the info! I emailed the dept yesterday so I’ll let you know if I hear back from them. Did some skulking in last year’s thread and it looked like UC Davis released decisions around March too but I have no qualms if they’re already sending out decisions! Here’s to us! 🤞

Yeah I think most of us are asking because we’re curious regarding merit based not loans and stuff😅 at this point I’m just waiting for them to offer me my loans and call it a day lmaooo😭 I also attended the webinar on Wednesday and I got sad because it seems like I’ll be taking full loans 😓

For those who applied to HSPH and awaiting decision
refreshing my harvard portal like..................

I did some further digging about Harvard decision date, and besides the decision usually being on a Thursday, it looks like they send it between 12Noon-1PM (eastern).

Just thought I would let people know because many of us are at the verge of getting carpel tunnel.

I attended the webinar as well and I'm all fingers crossed. I've been refreshing my mail.😂

Congratulations to everyone receiving scholarships from Emory, those were super competitive ( I believe they said only 1-3% of top students receive them.) I was torn between Emory and UNC, so it looks like I will most likely be committing to UNC since it makes more sense financially. From what others have said, financial aid offers for UNC are made in March, but has anyone received any type of aid already?

This morning I got my Emory award - 20k + 2.5k (per semester) REAL! (I am in GLEPI)

Around 12:30pm today, I got my Columbia finaid: 7.5k need based (epi dept) per year and around 30k in federal loans per year!

Got lots of thinking to do now haha. Btw, I was notified by email for both schools.

Wait, I just found out about the Gibson portal
So I tried to enter and it just gives me a message telling me to log out when I'm done with services that require authorization, there's nowhere else to click. I've tried different browsers and everything- anyone else having this problem?
I think you might only be able to access it if you have accepted your admission decision? I've had such a hard time trying to get in.

Anyone else applied to Stanford CHPR?
I don't even look forward to my Stanford decision. I was rejected the Knight Hennessy scholarship. Most likely won't be able to afford Stanford. :/ 👎👎

I haven't accepted my admission decision, but I'm able to log into my Gibson portal. You might have to contact the admissions office directly to let them know that you can't login

I am still waiting on these schools:
Berkeley (11/16), Yale (11/25), USC (11/30), Columbia (11/16), Brown (11/25), University of Maryland (11/25), Vanderbilt (12/1), UCLA (11/16)
All are for Epidemiology.
Crazy how the schools I made sure to apply earlier than the deadline are the schools I am waiting the longest.

Same. I kinda expected to wait longer for USC because they already warned me that they release decisions after most other programs (at least for the MHA program I applied to). However, waiting to hear back from Columbia and Yale is driving me insane ughhh

Same here. I did get an email from UMD that a recommendation on my decision had been made and would be available in the next 1-2 weeks (this was two weeks ago.)

In the info session 2 days ago, Emory said they would being releasing at the end of February but the 11th/12th is definitely not the end lol. They released packages right after the financial aid session last year too.
So if anyone applying in the future see this, they can now know when they'll be coming.

they sent me that (12/2). Radio Silence for 10 weeks

For Columbia HPM applicants: How soon after your interview did you receive an admission decision? Thanks!! I hope everyone has a nice weekend 🙂
I haven't been admitted yet, but I asked this question a few pages back and I think most people said they heard back around 2-3 weeks after their interview if I remember correctly?

Oh yikes, that means I might have a much longer wait on that than expected. I really did think they would get back to me within 2 weeks though since a recommendation was already made.

Just received my acceptance to BU + 35% $$!!! But also got an email from GW that they aren't giving me any money so I guess I can cross them off my list!

Now the only school I am waiting for is Columbia after that mishap..... c'mon Columbia!!!!!!!
