You recommend paying for the pathoma subscription for 2 years? Why?
Gunner alert.

Actually I think (and have been told by M3/4s) that it's a waste. I'm just curious what his reasoning is.
Isn't M1 mostly about normal structure and function anyway?

So, as a soon-to-be 1st year, should I take this thread to mean that I should buy board review books instead of the actual texts books? Do most 1st years end up gearing their study for the boards? I've had current students at my school and other schools tell me that they never use the textbooks but get what they need for exams from he professors' lecture notes/outlines. In my undergrad experience, such notes are great for telling you what to study but don't necessarily contain the needed material. Is this where outside sources like board review books come in?
MedPR Rip 🙁 (a sad day).
Yea, I know. I really wanted to see him hit 20k. I'm sure he's watching down on us (lurking) or has been reincarnated. 😀

That kid couldn't lurk if his life depended on it...his head would explode from not being able to respond. I'd guess reincarnated...Just keep an eye out for a new member who has ~5K posts by next week.![]()

How did he get banned?

Apparently for persistent derailment of threads.
I highly recommend pathoma and think it's more useful than first aid for a MS1. Costanzo's physio book has been pretty good as well.

1. Yes, the professor slides, professor lecture info, and a review book like RapidReview or BRS is all you will need for a topic (except maybe anatomy where you will need a big picture book too).
2. Maybe, it depends on what you mean by "boards". Most first year students study for their exams. Sometimes a school will use a national test like NMBE ("shelf") for a final, so if you call that a "board" then yes they cram for the boards before the final exam. Usually "boards" means the big exam at the end of year 2, and no, first year students can't study for that because they don't have the knowledge base yet.
The pattern in med school is for a professor to produce slides in PDF form, teach from the slides, and then test from the material delivered. At no point does the concept "textbook" enter into the system.
Thanks. That is exactly what I wanted to know.
It's for his/her/their own good, although he/she/they might be getting crazy due to that. 😎
P.S.: I cannot believe it could be only one real user to have 20K posts in a year!.. I honestly still wanna think of it like that there's a number of people behind the MedPR username. Otherwise, I don't wanna believe that this person would become a physician one day for the hopes to treat patients, although he/she has some real psychological problems... 20K posts in less than a year man 😱!.. and most of them are straight out garbage or empty argumentation with everyone... Please, go get a life, for the name of God!
I respectfully disagree. MedPR was perhaps one of the most misunderstood members of this forum. He didn't candy-coat statements or make unreasonable extrapolations. Instead, he often posted blunt yet helpful advice, and in return he received.... a boatload of hate.
A boatload of completely unfounded hate.
I'd venture that 9 times out of 10, whenever I stumbled upon a thread involving a heated debate between MedPR and other forum members, I would carefully read through the entire thread (something I'm very good at because I read extremely slowly) and find a common cause of all the commotion. It would usually look something like this:
1) MedPR states a fact/opinion
2) AnonUser misquotes MedPR or simply doesn't read his post at all (or, more probably, reads it but doesn't comprehend what point he's making), then makes an ignorant/dumb retort
3) MedPR calls out AnonUser for his unfounded retort and shows how s/he misunderstood what he was saying
4) AnonUser claims MedPR has an ego problem, doesn't have a life, or is simply a troll trying to incite trouble (or "anti-DO-ness")
5) Three pages of stupid, pointless debate occurs...
So yeah... go ahead and **** all over him, but it's honesty, careful data analysis, and blunt advice that this forum needs -- not more pre-med opinions stated as facts and candy-coating.
Well that's my 5 cents. Peace.
That's not true, at all.
Actually, MedPR username's posts have been mostly useless and confrontational instead of being representation of facts/truth. They've been always condescending towards anyone, I mean anyone, including pre-meds, med students, and residents. Only a solid set of psychological problems could lead someone to behave/write in this style.. consistently. The true reason behind it isn't known, yet. Otherwise, about 20,000 posts in a year couldn't have been reached. 😱
Can we get back on topic now? Please and thank you.
Whereas your posts have been pure quality.
It's not always gonna be sunshine and rainbows in medicine. I guarantee you'll encounter multiple people whose personalities grind on you, whether they be patients, fellow students, residents, or attendings.
You can learn to deal with it, or you can just get mad.
To my fellow broskis currently in Medical School:
Neuro. Hit me with the good stuff. My schools lectures aren't the best so I'm looking to supplement.
Resurrection! Which is more effective for anatomy. Netters, which is composed of detailed drawings or Rohen's Color Atlas of Anatomy which is detailed photographs?
Thanks.
