I think aim for a 21 or higher on the DAT and you will have a good shot at a lot of dental schools. And get some dental experience as well --shadowing, volunteering, assisting -- but in the end, as long as you get about 100 hours in, should be fine. DAT should be your biggest priority.
 
Sounds like you'd be happier at a med school, but shadow first to see how you like dentistry.
