NBDE Converting to Pass/Fail!!!!!!!!

With the NBDE converting to pass/fail in 2010, it means that students in my class (graduating 2011) will have a score for Part 1 and a PASS for part 2.
The class after that (graduating 2012) and beyond is all Pass/Fail...

What are your opinions? Would you shoot for a grade or just a pass/fail knowing that part 2 is pass.fail.

How will the specialists be selected if nbde is pass/fail? Will it just be based on rank now?

Is it worth it to really study that much for this exam anymore?????

I want to get your opinions! Maybe I can better gauge how hard to really study for this exam - which doesn't seem to be that important anymore anyways!

I thought it was pushed back until 2012. Or at least it won't happen in January.

What's new in the national boards?

Some of you may have heard that the National Board Dental and Dental Hygiene Examinations will be moving from a scored exam to a pass/fail. The buzz is true! Beginning January 1, 2010, candidate performance on Part I, Part II, and the Dental Hygiene examination will be reported to candidates, state boards, and dental schools only as pass or fail. The decision was made at the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations' meeting on March 11-12, 2008. The Commission also decided that standard scores will no longer be developed or reported. Further, they will continue to report raw score performance information in the disciplines covered on the examinations for failing candidates only. This information on failing candidates will be provided to candidates and dental schools.

well as for the Dental Hygiene examination. However, the
Joint Commission approved of a delay in the transition
from a reporting of numerical scores to a pass/fail
reporting system from January 1, 2010 to January 1, 2012.
The Joint Commission specified that individuals taking
the examination before January 1, 2012 will retain their
numerical scores.
The decision to delay implementation was made to allow
key stakeholders more time to prepare for the transition,
especially state boards that may need to amend their​

practice acts.

I am Indian dentist and planning to take my Part 1 exam in Feb 2010 and am too much confused about the new exam pattern after reading various opinions on this website. Can you PLEASE guide me regarding this....? How will be the exam in 2010?

Hi sdn members,moderators,
Can u please guide the new members as to how will the admission criteria vary, with pass/fail scoring system or for that matter with scores but no re-takes
scores but no retakes makes it very tough, but in no scores only pass/fail system , what will be the determining factor in getting admitted as anybody above 75 will be given just a pass.

Its so perplexing.......am in a dilemma whether ,the earlier the better it is to take the exam ?
