hi can anybody pl tell me where to study for clinical vigenttes.
What would be better to study from, the kaplan book or the BRS books? How many pages are in each book? What are the advantages and dissadvantages of each?
i havent yet thought about retakin part I but I now am does anyone have any thoughts? personally i dont have any dentists of any kind in the family and i really am not sure what i should do.
i do and i dont...i want to do an externship or 2 to see what the options are but i also dont want to be wasting my time if you know what i mean. I wish that they would just rank our class because i think it could only help me and it would give me a better idea how where i stand but i dont see that happening. but you are right talking to someone actually running a program is better than just BS'ing on here.
so can you guys please let me know what is the best way to practice the computerized format of test, as i am working on released exams but they are all in paper? so do you think i should try online kaplan or crack the nbde questions??? or probably you know of some better way??
thansk a lot!!

Next round of scores since the blackout date went out today according to people at my school. Post 'em up. 😀
Are you hearing the same trend that boards scores have gone back to pre-2007 levels? Everyone at Pacific was required to take the boards before the blackout so I won't hear much else.
Are you hearing the same trend that boards scores have gone back to pre-2007 levels?.
Not really. The majority (over 50% or so) of our class has scored between 82 and 86. There are a few of my friends in the high 70's and then I only know of a couple 89's and one 90. I think there have also been 10+ to fail so far. I honestly don't know everybody's scores but these are some of the things I have heard through the grapevine.
orlok and armor: did you guys read kaplan cover to cover? or did you just use it as a reference? alot of people on sdn say that the kaplan book is way too comprehensive...but then again they didnt do as well as you guys did.
with all the books that you guys named, did you read all of them completely or if not how did you pick & choose different sections from different books.
out of the books that you named, which ones were the most/least helpful? thanks
count orlock and armorshell, which materials did you guys focus on the most? What was the most beneficial study materials. I don't want to use the decks, because I like to understand the concepts, and not just memorize facts. Should i focus on the kaplan book, or should I focus more so on the BRS books? Or, would you use both? And if so, which one would you use more? What about the first aid books or moseby? If you guys were going to take it over again, what would be your gameplan to study, materials and time spent. Please give details.
I read everything cover to cover. It is just one of my obsessive compulsive glitches. I have a hard time picking up a book and not starting at the beginning and then finishing it.
I think the best resource for overall review would be the kaplan book, but for me it was just a review of what I learned in most of my classes and the notes I had. if you are starting from scratch then I could be way off base.
I have only looked at the anatomy and physiology BRS books, and both are pretty excellent. For any of the others I have no idea. The kaplan book is pretty good, but I feel like the biochem. and anatomy sections are kind of scattered and tough to follow. The first aid USMLE book is good for biochem, path, and micro. It has a lot of little one liner facts that are good to answer questions. If I had to study again.... obviously, I would not change anything, but then again I feel like I had a very strong base before I even started to review the material.
Agree. I didn't read Kaplan cover to cover but I did read each section I used beginning to end. The only thing I didn't use Kaplan for was biochem, and I thought the physiology section was a little weak but otherwise everything was good. Agree with Count about the "review" concept.
I didn't use the BRS anatomy (I used Concise Anatomy by Moore) but I did use BRS for Physio, Path, Micro and Biochem. I really thought the books were excellent, boards relevent, concise and thorough. Read them cover to cover. First Aid one-liners were awesome especially for micro and path.
If I had to study again I would have reviewed histology better but that just me, and I can easily remember missing 4-5 simple histology questions which I am now kicking myself for not reviewing more. Also, I'd pick up a NBDE part 2 review book and do a run through of oral path.
Unrelated question. Count, is that Nosferatu in your avatar?
when you say Kaplan book, are you talking about dentEssentials or USMLE kaplan book?
dear friends,
i have a question for everyone and anyone who has any idea pl put your feedback.i gave my exams part 1 nbde and i got 80%, i did my exams really very well and i was 100% sure that i should get more that 87% but when i got my results i was shocked that it is way less then i expected.hence i am confused what to do now.should i accept the result and keep quite and write the exam again or pl advice me from your expirence do i apply for recorrection.has anyone ever heard anybody improving their marks by recorrection.please give me your esteem inputs.please.
I used Kaplan, BRS Physio, Path, Biochem, Micro, Concise Dental Anatomy and Morphology (Fuller), Essential Clinical Anatomy (Moore), USMLE First Aid and Goljan's path lectures when I wasn't buried in a book (Driving, doing dishes, on the bus).
NOTE THE DISTINCT LACK OF DECKS.
Studied 2.5 weeks, 12-14 hour days. The month prior I read the Moore book cover to cover. I was supposed to take the test on the 10th and prometric royally bonered my scheduling (thank god I called them in a fit of paranoia) and I ended up having to drive 2 hours south, sleep on a friend's couch and take it 2 days early. ALWAYS CONFIRM BY PHONE WITH PROMETRIC, EVEN IF THEY SEND YOU THE EMAIL.

Count Orlok,
So you think that the Kaplan book is good to use? Was it the dent essentials kaplan book, or was it just the kaplan lecture notes that you used? How many pages is included in the lecture notes? And also, did you read the USMLE book cover to cover, or just use it to clarify things? Also, which BRS books would be most useful? Which ones did you use? Which ones did you read cover to cover, and which ones did you just look at a little? You said that if you had to do it all over again, you wouldn't change anything. But what EXACTLY did you use to study? and how much did you study from each resource? I am wondering if i should buy the kaplan lecture notes and the USMLE book and read both of those. And am also wondering which BRS books should i buy to study with. One more thing, how did you study for Dental anatomy? What resource did you use for that? Thanks.
