I'm currently in H1B status and my dental schooll will start in late May. I heard that it will take 3-6 months to transfer my status from H1B to F1. Surely it can be faster if I leave the state and come back with an F1 stamp. But there can be risk of rejection which I prefer not to take. Can anybody tell me whether I can attend the dental school full time while the application for H1B--F1 status transfer is still pending? Or, can I go to Tijuana for an F1 stamp instead going back to China? Thanks a lot.

From what I know, Mexico embassy/consulates is no longer giving visa to third country national. But by going to China you are risking rejection.

I think you can start studying on H1 and fill out paper work for change of status. What does your school say?

Talk to your school's international student affairs dept. they should really be able to help you.

Are you sure that Mexico consulate will not take the visa application from the third country?
I'm still waiting for the reply from the school and will post the reply here as soon as I get it.

Do they allow premium processing for F1 visa? If they do, then it may be worth paying $1000 in ur case.

Hi,
Yes, Mexico is no longer accepting change of status applications anymore. Your best bet is to go to China and get the stamping done (but you'd have to prove strong ties to your home country to get F1 visa). Consult an attorney right away and discuss the matter. I believe you can apply for change of status from H1 to F1 but don't know if it needs to be approved before the start of school. I personally think, the COS should be approved before the program begins. You can't attend school fulltime on H1B.
Consult a good immigration attorney right away. Best of luck.

because dentist are only allowed to work as dental technician on h1 basis

I'm currently doing research in some university.
Now I'm still preparing for the financial statement for the I20 form. The school told me it will take 3 weeks to get I20. So hopefuly I will get it in late March and after that submit the status transfer application. I will call UCLA (yes, UCLA) again regarding the transfer issue.
BTW, anybody here got any news on the loan issue?
