I think I'm going to go to both RWJ and NJMS accepted students luncheons. NJMS starts at 12pm (I think) and RWJ starts at 3 pm. I am undecided as to which school I like better. So my plan is to go to NJMS and leave around 2 or 2:15 to make it to RWJ. Is anybody else going to try this?

Sadly I'll be stuck at work, but I hope all those going to NJMS and/or RWJ will post any thoughts they have after the luncheon(s).
 
i'll be going to the njms luncheon this friday, but does anyone know where we meet? it just says in the main lobby??
 
How were you guys invited to the luncheon (NJMS)? Email? Mail? Phone? Dr. H told me about it when he called but I don't have any details. Hypothalamus, are you going to NJMS luncheon? Can anyone post more details about it?
 
Congrats to those of you who were recently called by Dr H. I just found out on Saturday that I'm waitlisted, so I've got to figure out plan B now. June is way too long not to come up with a backup, ha.
 
parpat, I recieved a postcard via snail mail that invited me to the lunch thing. You rsvp via email, and then they tell you they send more info via snail mail.

Has anyone actually gotten this info on the luncheon we're supposed to get via snail mail for NJMS? Because I rsvp'd before Christmas, and I don't have anything.
 
I got an email from dr. h with more info. Here, I'll just paste what the email said:

We will meet for the event at 12:00pm in the main lobby of the medical science building (185 South Orange Avenue). From there you will begin your specially planned extended tours and then be escorted across the plaza to the Oral Health Pavilion for the event. If you can not join the tour, the luncheon will start at 1PM. The dean, faculty members and students will be present to speak with you and answer any questions you may have. We sincerely hope you can join us for this informative afternoon. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet your future classmates, friends and colleagues. If you have any additional questions, or if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Admissions at (973) 972-4631.

I think it's much more likely that I'd end up at RWJ over NJMS as well... However, I have options outside of NJ, and there are just a lot of variables right now, so I'm not sure that I'll end up at either... But I really loved it at RWJ as well, so you are definitely not alone. Sadly I won't be at the luncheon (damn job) though...

I have no clue, I was hoping the additional info might include the dress code but I never got that. I'll probably go with black pants and a sweater.

How many people are going? Since we seem to be receiving talks from the Deans, I'm gonna go in a suit. Anyone else?
 
Nah, I'm just gonna wear dress pants and a collared shirt...nothing fancy.

Are parents allowed to come? My mom wanted to but I told her no because I thought no one else was brining thier parents...
 
Yeah they said you can bring guest(s). You can just email them and let them know you are bringing someone.

yeah, I'm pretty sure they have them every couple of months, because they obviously haven't taken their entire class by January. Call and ask?
 
you can bring guests?? is this to the rwj or njms one
 
You can definitely bring them to RWJ. I think you can bring them to NJMS too, but email them and tell them how many people you are bringing
 
rwj is on my s*it list. going to the njms lunch thing is going to seal the deal for me. 17 weeks of waiting and an admissions committe who has told me that I will either be in or on "high priority". i hope some of these places have a second lunch... for all the kids from BOTH schools who are just sitting around waiting for a whole bunch of other applicants to drop one of the nj schools just to go somewhere else.

anyway.. i am excited for tomorrow. i was very sick at work today... and will obviously have to call out sick tomorrow morning 😱
 
Can't wait to meet all you guys! (BTW, if you see a chick about 5'8" with blonde hair, wearing light tan pants and a black sweater, that might be me)
 
So today's the big day... I was originally planning to attend both, but I think I'm only going to the RWJ one. Hope to meet some of you there.
 
My parents also wanted to come to the RWJ luncheon, but I told them no b/c I didn't think we could bring guests. Oh well, it is too late now.
 
Have fun at the NJ luncheons for all who are attending. And don't forget to post any further impressions you have about the school, people, programs, housing, whatever when you get back!
 
I called RWJ and they said it is still ok bring a guest so my dad is coming.

My overall impression is pretty much the same. I was happy going into this lunch thing, and I still feel this is the place for me. I think the tour was pretty much the same thing we had during our interview. Oh yea and the talks got a little long 😛

cant wait to start!!
 
The talks did get a little long.

I did like getting to go see the apartments. They looked really nice (my group saw a studio) - furniture is nice, overall very new and nice looking, and even the studio was plenty spacious.

There were a lot more people there than I was expecting, I was hoping I might meet people and maybe get to know some a little better, but a lot of the people I talked to were still undecided.

Anyone else getting antsy about sending in a housing request? They said people had already started sending them in! I can't decide whether I want a one bedroom or want to share with someone - I'd like a 2 or 3 bedroom for rent purposes, but I don't want to get some random roommate I've never talked to (I had a bad freshman undergrad roomie).
 
Apartments looked great.

Every first year is ridiculously enthusiastic.

Dr. H is still the man.

I wonder if I met any of you?

I'm 99.5 % sold now.
 
I went to the RWJ one. I still really love the school. The talks did get a little long, but Dr. T is great. Dr. Mehan gave a very funny talk and the head of the camdem campus I also really liked. All students were very nice and enthuiastic about the school. I could really picture myself there. I'm 99% sold.

I decided not to go to the NJMS one, but for anyone who went to both: how do you think the schools compared?
 
it sounds like everyone has already been accepted...is there anyone still waiting post interview??

I was waiting but now I have to go for my 2nd interview at NJMS which is soon so I have a lot of waiting coming my way 🙁

good luck! i actually kind of had a 2nd interview at NJMS... the day of my interview i had a faculty interviewer and a student interviewer which i wasn't informed of until i got there. i thought that they only gave faculty interviews so i was a little thrown off when the student interviewed me.

How many ppl were at the NJMS luncheon on Jan 5th??? Any idea on when NJMS ADCOM is meeting again??? and when will be the next set of calls from Dr.H???

Just tired of freaking waiting this longgggg and answering the same questions to my parentsss about when i'm going to hear from Med School?? Anyone else feeling this frustrated????

yessssssssss...that is exactly how i feel!! i no longer function like a normal human being because my heart jumps everytime my phone rings. let's just hope that this is worth the wait and good news is on the way!! good luck!
 
Anyone know how far away were the student apts are from RWJ? Is it very close by? Close enough to walk to school or would you have to take a car?
