NIH Loan Repayment Program

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Same here-I needed clarification on one loan, uploaded but haven't heard anything back yet, one of the incompletes just said they were still reviewing the document. This process is so nerve wracking!

When I re-submitted, they only took 1-2 business days to review, but it was just one document/simple letter they needed, so it was probably just a quick skim for them.

Yeah I keep getting some weird message about PIV or something?

Yes, it looks like the NIH landing page is incorrect- PIV cards are the ID cards they use at NIH to access the computer systems. I was able to get in using my NIH login (guest collaborator and have an email account). Hopefully they sort it out soon so that we can login with the eRA login!

thanks! did you get another email? Been 1-2 business days here, and was also pretty simple, just want the waiting to be over!

Hmm it’s been about 4 business days on my end and haven’t heard anything. Also, Never got a follow-up email or status change, it still says received - though I did email them. It should have been fairly simple, so that makes me anxious lol I wonder if the holiday is delaying things (wishful thinking)

The Commons log-in page also sent me to the NIH log-in page, so I tried clicking on the NIH Log-in option and it sent me to the Commons log-in page and I was able to log in...seems they're just mixed up.

Maybe your password expired? I know they timeout after 90 days. I haven’t had an issue using my commons info

Oh--sorry I was a bit unclear. Was trying to help the prior comment about trouble getting into the portal with the Commons ID.

There's a problem from the login landing page if you click on "Commons Login" it sends you to the NIH Log-in landing page and requests your PIV. For those of us who don't have NIH access and use our Commons ID there didn't seem to be a way to get in. I wondered if the links got swapped, so I went back to the login landing page and clicked on "NIH Login" and it sent me to the Commons landing page, and let me log in from there.

I've got an NHLBI clinical LRP proposal submitted. I had an original award as a post-doc but was denied renewal on my first attempt. Took a year off and submitted a K99 (deadline for K99 near LRP deadline), snagged a faculty position in Hawaii, and one week after moving received notification my K99 had been funded. I couldn't take the k99 though since I was faculty and not a post-doc (I was ineligible, and was gutted). Resubmitted for LRP renewal with a new project this go-round, and was "selected" for financial review. Submitted my docs ASAP about a month ago and got an email today stating

"The Division of Loan Repayment is in receipt of your lender statement(s) from United States Department of Education - PHEAA FED LOAN SERVICING (06). We have updated your records to reflect the new balance information.

Please login to your portal at NIH LRP Portal - Login to view your updated records. Should you have any questions regarding your payments, please contact us by e-mail at [email protected]

Sincerely,

NIH Division of Loan Repayment"

My application portal still says "selected" so I'm not sure if I'm good to go or not. Anyone else with renewal been through this? Looks like the rest of you are showing changes from "selected" in your application portal? Are you guys renewals or new applications? The payment portal still has all my previous payment info with the updated "current balance."

Hang in there everyone! The LRP proposal cycle is a wild and unpredictable ride that peaks anxiety this time of year, but its sure worth it if you can snag the award!

thanks! did you get another email? Been 1-2 business days here, and was also pretty simple, just want the waiting to be over!

Yes, I did, it said:

"We have received all the required loan documents for your NIH LRP application. Your financial review is now complete. You may review the status of your loan documents under the ''Application Status'' tab in your online NIH LRP application portal LRP Online Application System (OAS) | NIH: Division of Loan Repayment. Please contact us immediately at [email protected] or (866) 849-4047 if there are changes to your loan status or lending institutions.

We expect NIH Institutes/Centers to make their funding decisions by late summer"

I did get my documents submitted very quickly after being selected, so I might have just been slightly ahead of the curve on timing? I should also add that I sent them a worried email over the weekend since they had not noticed the document the first time around- I was worried something was wrong with the document itself. That might have pushed them to review the document faster? Either way, I'm sure they have a lot of documents to review. Hopefully you will hear soon!

I am waiting to hear about a 2nd renewal and received a similar email:

"We are in receipt of your lender statement(s) from United States Department of Education - PHEAA FED LOAN SERVICING (06) and we have updated your records to reflect the new balance information.

Please log into your portal at NIH LRP Portal - Login to view your updated records. If the loan information is incorrect, contact us via email at [email protected] within three (3) business days of this notification. If you fail to notify us and later discover inconsistencies or omissions, we may not be able to reconcile or resolve them. Should you have any questions regarding your payments, please contact us by e-mail at [email protected]."

Two years ago for my 1st renewal, I received the same message and follow-up and received this response:

"Good morning

As a renewal, we only need to update your loan balance. I am forwarding your current account statement to our financial team for processing.

Have a great day

Have more questions? Please call the LRP information center! 866-849-4047 Mon-Fri, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST or email [email protected]."

So I think you're good to go. Good luck!

Well, good to go in terms of updated balances. However, selected doesn't mean funded (but it's a good sign). If you look back through this thread you'll see folks who were selected, but ultimately not funded. We should receive word in mid-August re: funding.

Cheers for the insights! I just called the NIH LRP office and was told to verify the amount totals on the LRP portal to make sure they reflected my amount due on my loans. Good thing I did because the numbers were about 5K off (no clue how they got the number they originally posted). Once I figured that out and shot them another email, I got another email back from them stating "We are in receipt of your lender statement(s) from United States Department of Education - PHEAA FED LOAN SERVICING (06) and we have updated your records to reflect the new balance information."

All the numbers match up now, so I guess its back to the waiting game. My application portal still says selected, and I can't remember if/when that changed back to submitted last go around (when my award wasn't renewed). It changed back to submitted at somepoint because my 2018 application is still in my portal and still says submitted. Hopefully, we get the nod this go around. Stressful times for sure, especially with COVID complications!

Hope you are all healthy and well!

I got an e-mail from NIH overnight that my LRP was funded! I checked the portal this morning and the status changed from "selected" to "funded". Very exciting! (IC: NCATS) Good luck everyone!
Congrats!! That’s awesome. Not looking so hot for me and NCATS since they still haven’t reviewed my additional requested docs. Le sigh lol

Congrats! Mine still says 'selected.' NIAAA-CR. Any NIAAA folks have a change to funded?

Did you ever hear back on your incomplete documents that were in review? - Actually as of 20 mins ago I just got an email saying the review is now complete...now we wait

I haven't but I submitted the up to date documents a few days after you I think! Hope to hear soon! Good luck!

Seems like it’s all on a rolling basis (NCATS at least) with loan documentation. Hopefully within the next few weeks we’ll get answers. The waiting is killer. Good luck to you!!

Thanks! hopefully the "Funded" status is on a rolling basis due to that as well!

Congrats! Anyone hear official word of funding from NICHD yet?

I received notification on Monday that my financial review was finally finished. Last time, my friend heard about her first time award on July 22. Here's hoping the waiting is almost over! Congrats killrforehand

Also waiting to hear from NICHD--nothing yet.
I'm also waiting on an NICHD renewal - my experience is they are pretty late with notifications (like late August).

Are you both waiting for selection or funding decisions? I haven't heard anything about my NICHD new award. I gave up hope a long time ago but I still haven't heard a peep from them.

My first time NCATS pediatric LRP just changed to funded sometime between 9-11 AM! I haven't gotten the email yet-so I am trying to not be too crazy excited yet! Hope everyone hears soon!

Great... now I need to start checking every hour on the hour 🙂

Mine also just changed!! Congrats to you!! Now anxiously waiting for the email

I was selected for financial review, but just found out that there is not enough funding to fund my award (I received the email today). So, I won't receive the LRP this go round 🙁. I'm bummed. For whoever would like to know, I submitted an intramural application through NHGRI. This was my first attempt for an LRP. This could've been life-changing for me, but I will hopefully be able to try again.

I don't like being the bearer of potentially bad news....I heard that my application was selected for financial review in late May, and now am waiting on funding decision.

I was selected for financial review, just waiting for notification of funding or not.

FYI woke up to an email sent overnight! This is life changing...fingers crossed for you

Waiting on funding notification--financial review request came in in May. I'm waiting on a NICHD second renewal. The first renewal notification came through 1st week of August and the initial award was more like mid- to late- August if I'm remembering correctly.

Anybody else waiting to hear from NHLBI?

Also, those going for renewal; did your status change directly from selected to funded, or did your selected status change to something else first? How about for first-time award proposals?

Also waiting for NHLBI. Renewal for clinical. First time status was changed from selected to funded.

I haven’t heard anything for a Health Disparities first renewal through NIMHD- no financial review and my application still says “Submitted.” Does that mean that there is no hope left for this round? Has anybody in this IC gotten word? NIMHD seems to be one of the later notifiers.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately that likely means it won't be funded. I had one year where my status never changed to selected, and then it was funded (if you search back in here, you'll find that thread). But the general consensus has been that this is quite unusual. I think perhaps that year there was a little money left over, and they rescued my app from trash heap at the last moment. So, there may be hope, but the reality is perhaps a bit more grim.

Cheers, mate. I thought I remember going selected to funded on my first successful go-around, but that was back with the old NIH LRP application system. My failed renewal attempt from 2018 is still up like a tombstone in my submission portal and says "submitted." I'll holler if my status changes.

Any news about NICHD? OR NICHD Health Disparities (My research is not necessarily health disparities, but based on my answer to questions- pell grant, minority status, etc I was told I would likely go to NICHD Health disparities (can anyone confirm?) Have folks from NICHD Health disparities begun financial review? Mine still says submitted in the LRP application system.

I received financial review for an NICHD Health Disparities renewal in May. No word on funding or not yet. Good luck.

I received notice of financial review for NICHD Clinical Research renewal back in May. No word yet about funding decisions. Good luck to you!

Anyone heard from NIDDK yet?

Applied to Clinical Research (first time applicant) NIDDK. Got an email that my financial review was completed two weeks ago and they will make funding decisions sometime late summer. My application status is still listed as "selected." Loan status listed as "approved." Tried logging into LRP awardee portal with email I used in my LRP application and said I wasn't authorized to login....

Same boat here, showing as selected. Based on Twitter/here/etc., it seems as if NIDDK hasn't released their final decisions yet. Fingers crossed it is soon!

Status switched to funded some time this evening!! Basically lived on this thread the last month or more so thanks for keeping me sane. No email yet. First time clinical research, NIAID.

Same here. Switched this evening, also NIAID, second renewal. No email yet though.

Hi everyone, thank you for generously sharing your NIH LRP journeys on this platform! This morning the status switched to "Funded" on my first-time renewal Clinical Research LRP at NIAID. No email yet and the status changed sometime within the last 24 hours (I have been checking daily). For a bit of context, I am entering my 2nd year as tenure-track Assistant Professor and currently have an R01 from NICHD in Y2. My initial Clinical Research LRP was also awarded by NIAID during my post-doc in which I held an F32 from NINR and then an R21 from NIAID. I am adding these details in case they are helpful for strategizing when/where to submit future LRP applications. I am so grateful for your status updates, I've been frequently checking this thread for years!
