NO INTERVIEW CLUB

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How come you didnt ask for a dentist lor? That will help your application a lots because he/she can write about your passion for dentistry.
I didn't because my research advisor and my employer know me very well and with my science letters that's already 4. My dentist is great but he wouldn't have much to say, I mean, all he's seen me do is shadow him and ask questions. He couldn't speak to my abilities by nature of the dentist-shadowee relationship, since I was always observing. My other recommenders know me in a context of watching me take on leadership roles and difficult challenges. But if not having a DDS LOR was the make or break factor in my application, guess I'll just have to reapply next time.

I think you still ok tho. It just look funny from my perspective that you spent that much time shadowing, but there is no lor from him/her in your application. I still wish you the best tho, hopefully you get at least 2 invites so i dont lose my house lol.

0 interviews STILL 😢 completed 7/15, 24AA/24PAT, ~3.8GPA, won 1st in a research conference, tons of ECs/shadowing/volunteering, and I wrote the personal statement of a lifetime, which was thoroughly edited and eventually praised by my friend who is a D1 at Harvard. I poured my heart, soul and literally my entire life's worth into this application.

I have no idea why I have no interviews. Maybe the DAT was just a cruel joke played on applicants by dental schools, because clearly it has no bearing on admissions chances? I guess that's good if you have a low DAT... anyway, guys, let me be an example that stats don't matter at all.

Maybe it's because I'm a member of the LGBT community and that isn't cool with dental schools? I did write about my struggle with that in my personal statement and how it led me to a career that will allow me to break down injustices in healthcare inequality. I actually can't think of any other plausible explanation.

My heart is breaking.
Are you seriously complaining with stats that are good enough for even the top dental schools in the country? Not only that, but you also have all the EC and research experience you would ever need for an acceptance at any school some would call their top choice. Being gay or part of the LGBT has nothing to do with your acceptance or interview invite. If anything, some admissions officers may have thought that you yourself view your own status as LGBT a disadvantage or something to give you the upper hand in admissions, similar to being a URM and applying. I don't know what you said in your personal statement but so long as you didn't go over the top with mentioning it, I don't see a problem

I didn't shadow one dentist that long, I shadowed 5 dentists and collectively the time added up to 400, so a letter from any one of the dentists would probably be too impersonal. I hope so too, but hey, if I have no interviews I'll definitely need a house 😀

I didn't emphasize being LGBT, I only mentioned once it as a factor in my life that intrinsically motivates me to want to combat injustice. I wasn't using it to prove I was disadvantaged at all. I am not complaining about my statistics, I'm complaining because I don't have a future as of right now. I can assure you I'd trade places with a 18DAT/2.5GPA applicant with an interview in a second!

I can't speak on how not having a LoR from a dentist affects your app, but I would definitely anticipate being asked about it during an interview.

I cannot apply to the schools you listed because I don't have a DDS rec letter or because I used AP credit for some pre reqs. I applied to every single school that didn't eliminate me based on those criteria.

Even if I could apply to those schools, I'd rather attend my instate school (which actually hasn't even given IS interview offers yet) than every single one you listed. And I have a better chance of getting into my state school than the ones you listed. So I'm not sure how applying to additional private or for-profit dental schools will help.

Finally, your point about OOS schools would make sense if it wasn't for the several OOS SDN members with lower stats that submitted to the same schools after or around when I did, and got interviews within weeks. I'm thinking stats don't just not matter much, they don't matter at all. The problem isn't my application, it's me. I'm not trying to get 10 interviews, dude, I'm just trying to get 1.

If you are an ohio resident then you are right about getting into OSU. OSU will most definitely be sending an interview invite out to you with your stats when they starting sending out in-state invites this week.

Still apart of this club 🙁 oGPA 3.28 sGPA 3.14, 18 AA, 18 TS, 18 PAT, 23 RC, reataking in October
was hoping to get an invite from UNE because my DAT retake is in October and they wont accept the new scores but haven't heard anything from them (received the supplemental a month ago)
You did great on RC though! (I hope you can repeat; the articles can be quite variable from what I've heard). Do you feel ready for your retake?

Did you apply to VCU and UNLV? Friend of a friend got into VCU with an 18 and I know UNLV heavily favors the RC.

thank you! and starting to get there but still feel pretty nervous about it!

You submitted mid July. Relax. I just got two interviews out of six schools, and I discussed my struggles with finding self-acceptance as a member of the LGBT community in my application, albeit with slightly lower stats than you. I submitted 6/29. Give it some time! SDN represents a microcosm of the total number of applicants, so don't get fussy about seeing other people post about something that may not be 100% factual.

I hope you'll get an interview soon, but if you dont hear anything back by December, be prepare to take the dat again. That 17aa is what holding you back.

I have a 25AA and 3.72 gpa. Have only received an interview from one school so far. Should I be worried?

App complete last week. So I'll be on here for a bit lolll

Any luck for September applicants?
haha I think we gotta give the luck to the July/August applicants who still haven't heard anything. This process is all over the place. People from various dates are getting interviews at any time. I got my app mailed 6/24... but it was actually complete on 9/21 :lame:. So I guess we have quite some waiting to do. Unfortunately, its already driving me crazy lol. Just do whatever you can to distract yourself from checking your email 1000x a day haha

Seriously haha. I found that doing yoga and meditating helps (be mindful and appreciating what's going on in the present moment)...I've only been checking my emails three times a day now as opposed to 100x lol. It's worth a try!

hahaha I have went from checking 100x to like 15-20 times so that is progress. I am trying to distract myself as much as possible. Even though its literally in the back of my brain 24/365.

How did it get mailed out on 6/24 if it wasn't completed until 9/21?

It's possible. My first mail-out date was 7/1 and my second mail-out date was 9/2. I didn't have my DAT scores in at the time the first go. I guess mail-out happens on Fridays as soon as GPA verification is complete?

Does anyone know if Michigan, Roseman, MWU-IL, LECOM-FL, CASE, Tufts, Louisville, or Maryland are still giving out pre-December interviews?

You don't need your DAT scores for your app to mail out. I had every single thing complete besides my DAT scores on the week of 6/24. I took my DAT August 23 so that was the only thing needed to complete my file at the schools. They had gotten my app on 6/24 with everything else. yes! @okiedokieartichokie ! Once GPA is verified along with required info on app they mail it out. You don't need LORs or DAT for it to mail out. But I already had all my LOR just not my DAT.
