I am a non-trad. How many hours of shadowing are reccomended?

Some schools require about 40 hours, most don't specify but expect it, and a few don't care. The average that applicants list is about 50 hours, ranging from all with one doc to 8-10 docs. This could be done rapidly over the last few months or regularly scheduled over a year or more. I recommend 60-80 hours split among 2-3 specialties which include primary care, but there are many variations that will do as well.
