anyone heard of UTMB movement yet???
 
If anybody is interested, Tech already took 3 people off the wl last week.
 
I'm really anxious to hear more about UTH movement. I have a friend on the waitlist that I really really really want to go there. She's got an appointment with Dr. Kellaway, but I just really hope and pray she gets off the list. (i hope and pray that EVERYONE waiting gets off the waitlist somewhere, but I really want her at UTH.)
 
I keep asking this, but has anyone heard of any UTHSCSA movement?
So far I think we've heard of movement only at UTH and TTU?

baylor is not done accepting people...talked to the admissions office today...apparently the adcom has not finalized decisions on applicants yet.

they are not done extending acceptances (according to her info). but, as i have found in dealing with baylor everyone gets a different answer when they call.

Do you know if your friend was in the top 10% or top 25%? I'm in the top 25% at UTSW and am keeping my fingers crossed.

I called him... You just have to try to catch him in the office. He's really receptive to talking with you, but he is hard to get a hold of sometimes becasue he stays busy.

Okay, I did my SDN duty and contacted Dr. Jones. He wrote back in about 15 seconds--the class is still overfilled by 9 places. He has no idea when/if the wailist will be used.
 
does anyone know how many people were taken off the waitlist for UTSW last year? keeping my fingers crossed....

well, last time someone posted, they said Dr. Jones said the class was overfilled by 12---so perhaps we're 1/4th of the way to WL movement!!

Or maybe I shouldn't be so hopeful...

So you e-mailed him? I sent him another letter of intent (or letter of desparation) yesterday and he hasn't written back! Last time he wrote back right away. Hope I'm not annoying him..
 
i called up utsw admissions today and found out that there was absolutely no waitlist movement. so i dont know what to believe now...

Well in the email Wes sent out, it says they gave out spots.

Last year (again, using a different model), UT Southwestern
offered 401 places to fill our entering class. So far this year,
we have made 273 offers - 265 in Nov/Dec and 8 today.

I guess that means those 8 spots were OOS? People on SDN have said they got a call off the waitlist though. Very strange

Also, if they were already over filled, why would they over fill more?
 
Say if you got accepted to Texas med school 1 then got off the waitlist on Texas med school 2. How long do you have to decide which one to accept and which one to decline? 2 weeks? Til June 15? It would be really uh... let's say, crappy, if someone in this situation wait til June 15 to make their decision
 
Those eight spots were given out before his email, so I think when someone says "no wl movement" they mean "no wl movement since the email."

The OOS wl and resident wl are separate, with the former being "too small to be relevant," according to the email.

Extending more offers than are spaces doesn't mean the school will over-enroll (enrollment is the metric of importance here). Some of those folks will go to Baylor, some to Harvard/Vandy/Duke/WashU/blahdy blah. They count on some people turning down the offer.

Most private schools admit 2x - 3x as many students as they have spots.
 
david,no they didn't give me any other information. they told me they had no idea when to expect any movement...but as we all know may 15th will open up some spots

I guess the Baylor stuff hasn't had that much of an impact... yet??

We can only hope for more movement! :luck:

Hang in there Diana. I haven't heard anything, but doesn't most of the movement happen in May/June? I'd hate to be waiting too.....just keep yourself busy and either way the time will fly 🙂 .
 
Why do I keep hearing about May 15th? Is it some kind of magic day?
 
Just FYI, someone posted that they got into UTMB on the other Texas thread. Waitlist movement is good!
 
I don't know if it's like this for you guys, but the longer I wait to hear from UTSW, the more I fall in love with the school I'm at. There is a lot to be said for being wanted seomwhere.

I do agree. I think that was part of the purpose of the pre-match stuff. When you get that email/letter early, you are pretty excited that that school obviously really likes you. Also, on another thread they posted how more than half of people with a pre-match offer ranked that number one. That may have been part of the problem this year. People wanted to be wanted so they stuck with the acceptance they had
 
How's everyone doing? It's been a while...

seeing as how the other forum is hopped up on gun control, I dug through pages to find this thread to post some med school related topics.

So, here's the news in my life:

-BF is waitlisted at Baylor, though he just got some pretty big $$$ from UTH
-I myself am still WLed at UTMB and UTH, and have completely forgotten about this fact for some time now
-my buddy who was headed to Tech with me got in off of the UTSW waitlist sometime last month, and I shall message this person and get more info for you guys

I'm wondering if there's going to be ANY significant movement in the following months- doesn't sound too promising.
 
Has anyone recieved an OFFICIAL rejection from UTH? I still havent and just want some closure. Even though they said that I'm not on the waitlist. I still have that shred of hope that is tearing me apart...
 
I'm just really hoping that UTSW makes some movement
 
I sent an update letter to Dr. Jones at UTSA two weeks ago and heard nothing back....untill yesterday. I saw I had an e-mail from him and nearly had a heart attack, then I opened it and all it said was:

**my name completely misspelled**: thanks for the update.

I can't stop laughing---I mean, the thing I want the MOST, and the person who holds my future in his hands, doesn't even know my name!!! It was a really funny sounding misspelling too.
I don't know when it hit me how ridiculous this whole process has been--but it sure is nice to just laugh about it.
 
hehe that is a funny story. it would be nice one day to be able to be behind the scenes of this whole crazy parade and try to fix it.
 
I withdrew from UT-Houston yesterday, good luck all :luck: 🙂
 
i keep checking my mail every couple of hours for an update from mr.norred for utsw. this waiting is horrible!!
