NSU acceptance class of 2011!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ok, this is kinda weird. It seems like I have two NSU ID #'s. The NSU ID I used to sign up for an NSU e-mail account, which is also the one that was listed on my e-mail receipt for the $750 acceptance deposit, is different from the NSU ID that is listed on my e-mail notifications of received documents (i.e. the ID that is on NSU emails that confirm receipt of reference letters, transcripts, etc.), and on my acceptance letter.

What gives? Anyone else notice this?

All my stuff has the same number. I would call them. Could mess something up.

FACEBOOK TOOK OVER OUR CLASS!!!!!!

Yeah! We're letting the other school threads catch up! :scared:

So, anyone else trying to learn how to cook in preparation for living on their own? I've been fortunate enough to live my parents for the duration of undergrad, and be fed by mommy. I can say bye bye to the homecooking now. 🙁

you can always get to know those in the class who know how to cook😉

I'm currently back living with my parents, and I love my mom's cooking. I definitely miss cooking for myself though, and can't wait to try out some recipes next year (my mom doesn't like me in her kitchen) 🙂 😛

Hey Class of 2011...I hope you are all excited about starting school. I am going to be starting my 3rd year here and still love it!

If anyone has any questions, please PM me (as I don't keep up on here too much anymore)...I am happy to help everyone out as much as a can.

She's a great resource everyone. She was even my "tour guide" when I went to revisit the school. You rock. 😀

I actually like to cook, though I don't do it as often as I'd like. I'm thinking of hosting anatomy pot luck dinners. Food, "fun," and lots of gross anatomy...perfect!

I used to cook for a living, so I will be happy to exchange cooking lessons for ID card swipes! Seriously though HOD, I'll be happy to help out with pot luck dinners if you're really considering having them.

lol..anatomy pot luck dinners..nothing like eating a good meal..and having to study penis and vagina afterwards 👍

Not going there with a 10-foot pole. 😱

Thanks.

DAMN! Please be my classmate toothless!!😍

They offer distance learning, like from FL, right? 😛

Sure, everything is electronic these days! 😀
Except cooking me dinner, of course... 😉

Not a bad way to earn a little spending money during school, though - toothless. Being some families home chef or something. I know a family here that has one & pays them great! Oh - you have that dancing gig, though. Never mind! 😛

I recommend a george foreman grill and lots and lots of chicken breasts with steamed broccli/carrots.

Yeah, kinda puts a whole new Fabioesque spin on dinner and dancing!

For the MS 3 & 4s at NSU, which rotation sites did you like the most? which ones did you dislike and why? which ones offered a residency based (as opposed to preceptor based) rotations? which site do you feel has a kick ass
IM rotation/residency program (i'm interested in IM as a specialty)

I'd really like to know your input here, because this is pretty much the only way us newbs can get a feel for our clinical rotation sites.

Best of luck Iceageheatwave! Send in those transcripts, letter of intent letters, and keep doing what you've been doing (working, volunteering, etc..)

I'm a lowly M2...but I'll throw my two cents in here bc many of my friends are M3s...

Many of my friends are at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Miami. It is very strong in IM, and has a residency associated. I think this is where most ppl who are gunning for IM generally try to go.

But WOW...I have to say, you are ahead of the game. You guys are going to have so much of this stuff available to you during your first two years that honestly--you don't need to worry about it now. ;0)

Chill out...ENJOY all of your free time BEFORE medical school. It is precious.

After digging my driveway from underneath a foot of snow here in toronto, I KNOW that I've definitely made the right choice.

I can't wait to move. This is re-effin-diculous!

Nooooooo DOUBT!!!!!

palm trace is prolly the nicest...amenity wise and the actual rooms too..the others you are paying for convenience (walking distance/biking distance) like sunforest, sundance, cameron cove

I live somewhere that almost nobody else from school lives--and let me say...I LOVE it. (and I am only about 10 minutes from school). Point in saying this, there are a lot of other apartment complexes so drive around a little bit to see what is out there.

Oh yeah, I recently heard or read somewhere that the school is considering adding other carriers (outside of Aetna) to their insurance plans--which is a VERY good thing...so Yay! I know NO details yet, so please don't ask...but it is a possilbe good cahnge to come (as some don't like Aetna).

I saw Palm Trace Landings today. Those are real nice. Good choice Mike. Very happy to be in ft. lauderdale. I am going to go hit up Sweet Tomatoes with my girlfriend in a little bit.

sweet...gotta neuro final tomar so u guys have fun..be sure to check out beach place/los olas..and if u really have time..south beach

I don't want anyone to come to South Fl to visit and go to the same ole chain restaurants that they go to all the time when they are at home--therefore, here are some ideas of some places to go when you are down here. If anyone has specific questions on certain genre's of food for when they are visiting...let me know and I'll try to help you out.

A FEW LAUDERDALE LOCATIONS:

Blue Moon Fish Company
http://www.bluemoonfishco.com/
This is one of my FAVORITE places to eat
Nice Dinner type place
Ft Lauderdale By the Sea--A bit Pricey (25-30/plate), but 5 Stars (Literally)!
--Call Ahead for reservations, ask for seating by the water.

Beverly Hills Cafe
http://www.ezpress.com/thebeverlyhillscafe.htm
Lighter meals in Plantation

TooJays Deli is pretty good too if you aren't a native of Fl.
http://www.toojays.com/
Lunch or dinner type place

Houston's
It is on Biscane Blvd in Aventura (Next to PF Changs) ~174th St, on the left when you are heading south.
A bit Pricy as well...but good food. Probably 20-25/plate.

A FEW SOUTH BEACH LOCATIONS

News Cafe
http://www.newscafe.com/
South Beach Ocean Drive, Good food good views

Clevelander
http://www.clevelander.com/
The Best Margharitas and the Best Garlic Fries I have ever had!
South Beach on Ocean and 10th.
My favorite place to relax on SB.

Mangos
http://www.mangostropicalcafe.com/index2.htm
South Beach Ocean and 8th.
SB in all its glory, salsa music destination.

Kaikai - Sweet Tomatoes IS local dining for me, lol. The closest one to CT is S. Carolina. Thanks for that list though!

...lol...just not @ the top of my list for great food. I can make a mean salad from the produce that I purchase at publix. 😛

How many of you guys are bringing your cars down for school? What about buying a car to use? Do you think it is possible to manage car payments on financial aid?

I am bringing my car. I'm sure that I can make car payments on my financial aid.

If you're already making payments, that's one thing, but if you're thinking about getting a car now, and getting into a long term payment situation, avoid it. Instead, find something that you can just pay a couple of thousand for and be done with, and not have that monthly additional expense hanging over your head. It's just one less thing to worry about. Also, the more consumer debt you're carrying, the tougher it will be to get student loans you need.

haha, yea, but that place has some great soups and breads. By the way, I drove by Blue Moon today. A little too swanky for this vacation, but we did find a great place called Aruba. They make a great seafood alfredo and blackened swordfish.

Yeah, well the list wasn't specifically just for you.

...just a few ideas. I tried to include in the list fine dining, cafe and deli type places, beach type places, etc for ppl coming down to visit. I was hoping to find something to fit everyones personality.

When I came down a few years ago, I had NO CLUE where to go to eat at...and ended up with some crappy food and some chain restaurants (...and at the time, I worked for a under a private fine dining chef, so good food is important to me--even if it costs a little bit more). I wish I had someone like me who had offered a few suggestions--so I was just trying to help ppl out.

I hope the trip to Fl was all you hoped it would be.

Ok, I'm debating on whether or not to do the concurrent MPH degree offered by NSU. Or is it concurrent? Does it become a five year program if you opt for the MPH?

Can I wait until after first year to decide if I can go and complete the MPH?
