Facebook wont allow you to join a group from another school, so you are just going to have to wait until you port your facebook to nova..Or set up a new facebook account with the nova email

Not going to find any "cheap" housing near campus. The cheapest one bedroom apt is cameron cove---right across the street from school. You can figure on paying about 1000 for a one bedroom, and several hundred more for each extra bedroom. The cost of living here is very HIGH but there is money in the budget for it.DO_Doc said:I was accepted in December and have committed to going to NSU. I was just wondering does anyone know I can a nice cheap apt at in Ft. Lauderdale. I am willing to do the 30 min drive and all that is involved. Also Is any one interested in finding a room mate. I figure the only way to save a little money is to find a room mate. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma this past may. Any and all information would be appreciated.
I wouldn't worry about noise, I haven't heard anyone who lives near campus have any major problems (if anyone on here knows differently--please correct me).lsudoc82 said:Does anyone know of nice apartments near campus without the noise of undergrads?

DrMikeyLu said:Hey guys..for all of you that have not signed up for the listserv at nova.. Dr. Stanley Simpson sent out an email..
It prety much began congratulating us for making it to nova and that orientation information can be found at http://medicine.nova.edu/current_students.html
Then he mentioned something very interesting..i will copy/paste:
Beginning with the 2006-2007 academic year, M1 and M2 students will be assigned to one of 12 academic societies. The purpose of the societies will be to: 1) Enhance student-faculty interaction; 2) Enhance student-interaction, particularly across classes; 3) provide a sense of community for students and faculty; and 4) encourage the development of professional attitudes and behaviors among students. Each society will be composed of approximately 20 students per class, and 2 faculty society advisors. In order to assure that each society includes a diverse group of students, assignment to societies will be done randomly. Students remain in their designated academic society throughout their medical school experience. This creates a unique sense of community that students experience from their very first day in medical school. Each society organizes a program of peer advising, which is at the core of creating not only a four-year relationship between students but also between alumni of the society. Student-student and student-faculty interaction is fostered through academic/professional programs and social gatherings. We will be announcing a contest to name the societies in the interim in the beginning of February. The contest will be open to all students, faculty, and staff of the COM, so please start to think about relevant names for our academic societies.
This is something brand new!! gosh i hate being the first guinea pigs...hehe 🙂 Personally i think its a good idea in theory..we will see how it goes once we head off to school ..

Where from the Midwest??Faraaz23 said:Hey everyone,
I'm Faraaz.. just got the acceptance phone call yesterday and I'm going to be joining you all in fall! I'm from the midwest, so moving do to south florida is definitely going to be a change!
I'm guessing we send our deposit in, then we officially get our NSU email account and webstar access set up?
For any current students, anything in particular I need to watch for when looking for places to rent? I know someone mentioned make sure you get the lease in writing ahead of time... any other advice we should know?
Thanks.

I'm a born and raised IN girl...there are a LOT of ppl in our class from the Midwest.
Go back and read this thread...there is quite a bit of advice from ppl on here about living. In a few words...think about how much driving you want to do--and if that isn't much, don't go to far from campus. After reading some of the other stuff, if you have specific questions--let me know.

MrBoxy said:How is intramural program at NSU? Do the medical students have time to participate in sporting events?
It seems like we're gonna have class from 8-4 or 8-5 everyday, so, I guess weekends are the only time we have available for sporting activity.

After 3 years of applying to Med school, taking the MCAT 3 times, taking a medical mission trip to India, and after a tremendous amount of stress I finally got in somewhere!!! The longer it takes to get in, the more satisfying the acceptance. When Delia called I was screaming in her ear--i think she thought I was crazy or something.Man I'm so excited and pumped to get started.

lunallena said:oh i see yea. in that case then Sallie Mae is the one I'll choose. So once i do the FASFA online, will NSU contact me with the pre-approved loan or do i have to apply at salliemae.com
