So I tried that link and all I have is Applications in progress. There isn't a processed applications section on my page. Now I'm confused 🙁 I will shoot them an e-mail to check. Thanks for helping though!

I haven't ever been able to open the pdf either. It has always been corrupted but I assumed since they sent it that I was fine.

I'M INNNNNNNNNN!
I just woke up this morning and decided to check webstar. I cant believe it, I'm In.
Congrats!

Mine still says invited for an interview... 😕 I really hope I can find out before xmas.

That's the correct page ... just click it and read in the table that's an application summary. Send me a PM if you have more questions and I'll do my best to help.

interviewed 12/12, provisionally accepted this AM on webstar!!!

good luck to all!

interviewed 12/12....PROVISIONALLY ACCEPTED TODAY! i just died.

So I contacted the helpdesk to get my webstar information - thank you by the way all who suggested.

I'm noticing two things wrong... My contact phone number has only 5 numbers.

My decision is showing withdrawn/No show. I most certainly was there and was interviewed. This is making me a little nervous...

I contacted Sarah Baksh and Ellen Rondino. Has anyone else heard/seen this?

Thanks.

So I have contacted them as well and still no response. I don't have that exact message but according to WebStar my application still hasn't been submitted even though I did so on Sept. 1st and I sent in that signature page.

Since I got an interview invite last week I am assuming it is just a glitch in the system. I would assume the same for you.

I am wondering if the office is away due to the holiday since I left a message last Thursday and sent an e-mail early this morning and still haven't heard anything.

Yeah my webstar says the exact same thing! I haven't interviewed yet but I've been invited to. I tried contacting Sarah but I haven't heard anything since Thrusday. =/

I believe the ADCOM is meeting today 12/22 to make decisions. According to this thread it looks like they updated some people. I'm sure they will be quite unavailable for phone calls/emails today due to how many applicants they're looking at today.

I did call/email a few people. I left messages. They will probably be busy all day, and I believe they'll be gone till after the holidays. Don't quote me on it though.

Does it say your application preference not submitted? or does it only give you the option to create a new one.

Congrats to all the people who were accepted today!! Will you all be going to Nova?

I can't believe that I'm finally invited for an interview kekeke. For those who have successfully scheduled interview dates, please tell me the best way to do so. And on what days of the week do they do interview? Thank you.

Did you get an email with attachments? Unfortunately, the best way to schedule is by calling Sarah. Then, while she's on the phone, send her an email that says "I'm coming to interview on [this date]"

Ask her to send the confirmation back. When she sends the confirmation back, she cc's Ellen, the admissions counselor. This is the only sure-fire way to schedule it.

I don't know what days they interview, but it's twice a week. Your group will be large.

They interview on tuesday and friday. I think the interview groups are getting smaller now. The groups were so large because they were behind. At my interview they said they were almos caught up and I interviewed on Dec 5th.

AmyWho, finallyyyy!!! Congrats!!!! I am hoping for the best for you. PM me if you have any questions/ need any advice.

Other applicants: I received an email from Sarah today so she is still there and is available for emails/calls.

Yea I was supposed to get mine today too but I wasn't home to accept it since it's certified mail.

I wonder how the US post service and certified mail works in Canada. I will see tomorrow I guess when I finally make it home ot check the mail for the acceptance packet.

No, I didn't get any email. I just checked the WebStar and under the decision read "Invited for an Interview." So I assume that I am invited. Please don't tell me I am wrong lol. Does it mean that I can schedule any date with them, as long as it's either Tuesday or Friday? Let's say the very first week of Jan?

I know, FINALLY! I have waited for their interview invite since... ever. Just hope that I can schedule a date for it with someone somehow lol.

how do you check your status? Could someone post a link, thanks!

appreciate it amy, okay so where it says application preference, mine says "not entered" also i have an application in progress section and a processed apllication section, not a aubmitted applications section even though I have submitted everything. Is that normal?

Congrats to all the people who were accepted today!! Will you all be going to Nova?

So far that is where I will be going I am going to wait to see what happens with CCOM but things look pretty good for Nova. Is there a group on facebook or thread of people accepted to Nova?

I have the same thing, so I think it's normal. Just on a safe side, call someone in the office to make sure that they have your signature page.

Is there a way to bypass Florida's rotating internship requirement? The thought of doing an extra year sickens me!

There is a NSU class of 2013 under the medical students tab. Its under osteopathic medical students. It hasn't been super active though.

A lot of time between now and then, so things might change. As it is now, you can usually do a regular intern year and get it approved through some paperwork and stuff....or just don't practice in Florida. With Florida's current trends and its massively high malpractice, I think they are trying to scare people away anyway.

Does anyone know when Nova holds their white coat ceremony?? Some schools have it right at the beginning of med school while others hold it after the student's second year.

I found the schedule for next year on their website. I believe the white coat ceremony is on August 9th or 10. I will try to find the link and post it.

Wait a second, I thought that the rotating internship counted as the first year of your residency, and was not an extra year, and thought that most programs incorporate it into the first year of residency so you don't have to do them separately. Am I wrong? b/c that would not be cool at all.

That was my understanding as well...

Right I found that as well, but I'm wondering when in medical school do we have this ceremony?? Is this August 10th white coat ceremony for M1s?? Obviously, this is not a deciphering factor when choosing a school, just something I'm curious about. 🙂

Well, my decision still reads "W/D, No Show"

Obviously I was there.

I emailed Sarah and Ellen over the weekend.
Called over the weekend and Monday.
No response other than voicemail "out until the 5th"

This is very frustrating, so I'll leave it there.

Does anyone know if the school is open today? Also, how many spots of the class are filled thus far?

The resolution 42 business?

I don't know if I'm going to practice in florida, but it'd be nice to keep it as an option.

It depends. Sometimes it is an extra year and sometimes it is integrated as the standard intern year for a categorical match. It just depends on the residency program and other crap....You can usually weasel out of it to get licensed in the 5 states.

And yup, the resolution crap.

Its nice to have the option but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I've heard somewhere that >90% of intern years get approved if you apply anyway. I could be wrong and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am. I'm not an expert on it.

You'll find more info on internship and residency in the osteo and residency forums. More reliable there too: we're premeds here.

But, having done some obsessive research, here's my understanding. A DO grad who might want to practice in Florida can either:

1. Do an AOA residency in which the first year is pre-approved as the traditional rotating internship. Some, not all, AOA residencies are integrated as such. (A very very small number of AOA residencies are dually-accredited with ACGME residencies, btw, and a subset of these integrate the TRI.)

2. Do an AOA residency AFTER doing an approved TRI. The TRI may or may not be at the same institution as the AOA residency. The AOA residencies that assume you've completed a TRI are generally a year shorter than the ones that integrate it, but not always. (Note that the number of residency years varies by program - you'll see research years at some programs and not at others, for example.)

3. Do an ACGME residency AFTER doing an approved TRI. Worst case. However, in some cases you could theoretically get your TRI counted as your first year for an ACGME program that requires a separate intern year (not that I can think of any such cases off the top of my head).

4. Do an ACGME residency, apply for a rule 42 to get your first year approved as a TRI, and do required OPP flag-saluting presentations at AOA conferences. Rule 42 varies greatly by specialty, and you should look on do-online.org for the per-specialty required rotations during internship. If you're doing FM or EM, the list of required rotations for the AOA closely matches what you'd do in an ACGME residency anyway. The AOA requirement of months of IM in a general surgery residency, on the other hand, isn't met at any ACGME gen surg residencies.

5. Military. I don't know jack about these.

What I recommend is getting familiar with some specific residency programs that you are likely to be interested in. For example, you could pick Christiana Care in Delaware, which has ACGME and AOA residencies and an AOA TRI. Dig into the department pages and see what the actual expectations are at this institution, and then you can use what you learn here to figure out the next institution.

Best of luck to you.

I was looking through the future students section and I saw $950 as the acceptance fee, but it is also listed as $750 in the student handbook. Is it $750 or $950? Also, will I be able to pay it during the break?

Thank you fellow members of class of 2013. I am very grateful for the assistance I have gotten on this forum. NSU-SOM is the place to be, not only because of the tropical escape it provides, but also because of the caliber of people that you will be taking classes with.

According to my acceptance packet, it is definitely $950. And I don't see why you wouldn't be able to pay it over break. Their web site will still be operating, so you can pay via credit card... or you can mail a check over break and they will 🙂xf🙂 receive it when they return to the office.

I agree NSU is awesome. I will almost definitely (99% chance) be going there in August!!! I'm very excited to meet everyone.

Hey guys, I interviewed in late October and was accepted in early November. I paid my deposit and I have emailed/spoken on the phone with Sarah about my deposit on the 16th of this month and she said everything is in order with my application.

I checked webstar tonight though because all through that, my status always said Provisionally Accepted...it is now changed to Please Contact the Admissions Office. I'm sorta concerned. Has anyone gotten the same thing? They definitely cashed my deposit. I'm just being paranoid I think.

Haha so I finally got a holiday card from nova...it made me feel wanted again!

And creekfreek to answer your question and concerns I remember somewhere earlier in the forum someone having the same issue after they paid the deposit and I remember reading that the reason it said that was they tell you that they have received your deposit and that they will keep in touch. I have a feeling that that "contact admissions" issue happens to anyone that has paid by check and if like meyou pay online it just says deposit received in the webstar decision

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!

The same thing happened to me... they just want you to call so they can say "we received your deposit." After about a week of "please contact the admissions office" it changed to "deposit received."
congrats🙂

thanks so much for the replies melv and cubbies I appreciate it. Ellen emailed me back...was just an error. Have a great holiday season you guys!!!👍

Everyone please please please talk about the communication issues in the survey. It might seem trivial, but even if they have a 2% hitrate and we all talk about how crappy the communication was, someone will take notice. 40 or 50 people talking about how bad the communication was can be a large number with those surveys. Write your experience in the comments section too.

I have the same problem too, and I emailed them about it... They didn't respond. I also keep hearing that they do not return phone calls either... So I guess we'll see?

Hopefully this will help. My application preference says "not entered" as well, but if I click on the date of the completed application it provides a status of my application. This status changed to deposit received about a day after I paid it online. Hopefully this helps!
