Got an interview at Nova. Just wondering what people's thoughts are about the school. Thanks.

Was there only one sheet we had to sign and mail in after finishing the secondary? I signed one form and mailed it in. Would that mean I am all set? I have already sent in my LORs.

Hey, I just got an interview there for the end of September and was wondering if anyone has a hotel they would recommend.... or any other suggestions?...

Also, if I got an interview is it safe to assume my file is complete?

hey.. so we'll be there the same day.. thats pretty cool.. ill probably go out there on the weekend and get a hotel by the beach.. and make a mini vacay out of it.. it comes to be the same price as me flying out monday night, getting a hotel and coming back on Tuesday to NY. I'll be planning it out this weekend.. Uber excited!!!

That sounds great... but unfortunately I have work.... I did hear that it is possible to stay with a student... just haven't figured out yet how to contact one....

For those of us next week, make sure to keep your eye on the storm. It could screw some stuff up

Among those who are interviewing this upcoming week who is still going to attend their interview? Did you guys also receive a call from admissions informing you that you can change your date to later on?

I am going to call Monday. Have to wait for the forecast and see if it swings out or knocks power out. I'm driving distance and staying with my brother, so it isn't a huge issue with me. Rescheduling is a bigger pain because my schedule is so full. I have 5 interviews in the next month after that one...

The storm doesn't look like it's going to be a problem 🙂

So for those that are attending NSU-COM, tell me what you like and don't like about it. Is it a school worth applying to and if accepted, would you go?

Had my interview today...The campus blew me away and the students seemed pretty cool. Definitely moved up my list..

How was the interview? Were the interviewers cool? Did it really last until 3? I have mine on September 25th. Best of luck to you. Where else did you apply?

The interview was short (no more than 10-15min for me) and very relaxed. One or two of the other interviewees felt it wasn't as relaxed (different interviewers) so it really depends on who you get as interviewers. The day was a bit disorganized because it was the first day of interviews and I think we were out of there by 2:30-3:00.

My mdapps has all the schools I applied to.👍

After people submitted their application, what does your application page look like? Mine doesn't even show an "application preference' and I know I put down DO.:scared:Did I screw something up?

If you have any questions just call the number they put on the secondary invite email. I called today because the portal said they hadn't received my signature page and it had been almost 2 weeks. I spoke to a lady in admissions that was very nice and told me everything was submitted that I am complete. Don't stress...

Would you care to divulge what kind of questions they asked?

There is a pretty hefty portion on the database section with the interview threads. Lots of basic questions from the looks of it.

+1

No questions out of left field. Take a look at the database...😉

Is the school geared towards rural medicine?

we have a rural medicine club...I think that's about the extent of it. You can certainly wind up in rural medicine from here, if that's what you want to do...but we aren't a rural campus (by ANY stretch of the imagination) nor have I noticed any particular bend toward it.

If any of you guys have any specific questions on NSUCOM ... I'd be happy to help out, you can e-mail me at singinfifi at gmail.com (I check that way more often then SDN). Fair warning, I've been here all of a month! 🙂

I'll see you guys in about 8 and a half hours! I'm sitting on my brother's couch now about 10 minutes from the campus.

One of my good friends in my class is giving tours tomorrow! So if you're in her group, I'll probably see you 🙂

Ya can't miss me. Tall girl, curly hair, slight limp. good luck on your interview, and don't stress out! just be yourself (I know that sounds cliche, but you're there for a reason) and you'll do great!

Go get em!

Does nova screen heavily pre-secondary or do they just screen for mcat/gpa cutoffs? Thanksss!

Interview went really well! Although it was my first one... NSU REALLY impressed me. I love the area, the school, the faculty, the gym is pretty cool too. At this point, in 2-3 weeks if I find out that I get in I'm definitely going here!

My interview went better. 😛

It was a good day, aside from the drive back...and loosing my flip-flops. Everyone was nice there. Random dental students, nursing students, and all the others were greeting me with a large amount of cheer. Interview wasn't tough, but the hindsight thing did kick in when I had 7 hours to think about it.

By the way lil, you are super fast with updating crap. Sitting at the airport?

Dev told me that NOVA's screening is 3.0 and 23.

It's not a hard cut off. I can think of two people in my class right now, one of which was accepted with a GPA<3.0 and one of which was accepted with an MCAT<23.

They really do look at the whole applicant.

Haha  Yeah I am a big loser. Sitting at the hotel, my flight doesn't leave til 3pm the next day. PM me and I'll e-mail you the pictures I took. Campus is so pretty! Did you have to drive all the way back in dress shoes??😱

It was great to finally meet some fellow SDNers. NOVA is now my number one choice! The whole day blew me away and I am really hoping for an acceptance.

I drove to that walgreens and got some flipflops for 5 bucks. I also got my dinner of trail mix, beef jerky and a sugarless rockstar for the drive back. I did the drive in 6 hours and then got pulled over 4 blocks from my house because I had a headlight out.

You'll be fine for the beach almost all year. There are a few days where the water may feel a bit brisk if you're sailing, but nothing horrendous. I don't think I've ever worn a drysuit while sailing. A few times I threw on a wetsuit.

"Cold" in south florida is when it dips below 60 most of the time.

Haha I did the same thing when I had my interview on tuesday. Were you the only CA interviewee on thursday?

She was. I'll answer for her because I do that. We're homies now. We checked out the gym....very mutt and jeff considering she is around 4'11" and I am around 6'5".

There was a guy from Idaho there. That was probably the most unique location. This is like a memory test for me. Cali, Michigan, Illinois, Florida, Texas, Idaho, and New Jersey were the state spreads I believe. Florida won out with 4 people. 2 Traveling from Tallahassee. One from South Florida and one from Jacksonville.

Texas was in second with 2 from DFW area I think.

Another year, another group of applicants. Best of luck everyone!

The more I think about it the more I'm kind of up in the air. I'm not sure if I really love nova or am just indifferent. The facilities were pretty standard to me. I didn't get to see a lot of stuff and I really wished I could've sat in on a lecture or something. I'm also kind of unsure about the 4th year rotations and ability to do audition rotations at more than a couple of places.

I do enjoy the campus and everyone was very nice there. It would be nice to talk to more of the faculty and what not. I think a lot of the doubts are my normal wave with how I feel about things. It is too hard to compare without interviewing at a few other places.

To everyone who interviewed at Nova on the 11th, it was nice meeting you all and hope you all had a safe trip back home, especially those returning to texas. I really like Nova and it is definitely a top choice, hope we all get in!

does anyone that interviewed on the 11th wanna join me in the quest to grow a majestic moustache like the dean.....Not gonna lie, I am completely jealous

I really wasn't sure whether it was ok or not to mention the moustache. I haven't seen one that sweet for a while. I bet it looks cooler when he is riding his motorcycle.

HAHAHA! You're totally right...it would look cooler. I can just imagine it..Oh, and I love when he was all sketchy about standing in front of the door. I had to focus pretty hard to not smile/laugh during his entire shpiel.
NSU Sept 11'ers, you know what I'm talking about!
We are all going to get in:luck:. See you in the sunshine next August!

During the 9/11 interview day, Dr. Whitehead said that we could use Webct to check our status. Anyone know exactly what I ought to look for--what will change?

Thanks

Oh trust me...If I could, I would! I dare you (or anyone else, for that matter) to show up next fall with one. 😀

When you log in, go to webstar, go to admissions, log in, click on the application under admission term and then in the bottom right hand corner of the page that says admissions summary there is a box that says "status"

I like how the NSU boards are dominated by about 3/4ths of the 9/11 interviewee crowd.

I bet we'll be in the same group thing once we get there as well. We gotta think of sweet colors and an awesome shield design now.
