Just hanging out in anatomy class (omg. THANK GOD WE HAVE CONNOVER BACK) and all of a sudden, this flash goes off. i look by the door and there's a group of interviewees and one of them is looking at a camera.

It took me a second to figure out exactly what had just transpired.

Ok. Back to cardio physiology for me.
Just imagine if they did that in Dr. Dribin's lecture. Enjoy Mayroviz. Go to Josh's review if he has one and read his packet back and forth.

Ahhaahahaha.
God. I'd pay to see that.

"and you'll see here, the gerbil...."

I love Dr. Dribin. So much.

....Dr. Campbell on the other hand................I'm not ashamed to say, I have NO idea what's going on in biochem right now.

I echo your sentiments about Conover being back rather then the other two...

Seriously.

I nearly hugged him on Tuesday.

That test on Monday was NOT kind to me.

Just got an interview letter sent in yesterday......im so excited. The only problem is the admissions office didn't give me a date to schedule on thursday and the scheduling lady wasn't in the office today. I hope I get an interview before the new year!😎

They sent you an interview invite via snail mail? I haven't heard of that before! 😱

Well I guess they had my file down in the bottom of their pile....and I reminded this lady Linda that I was an selected as an alternate last march(for '08 class). Within an hour of that phone call I received an interview invitation online, but they didn't offer any dates. When I tried contacting the admissions officer Sarah Baksh, I found out she won't be in the office until monday. Supposedly, shes the only person I can talk to that could schedule my interview. I just don't understand why they only have one lady scheduling interviews and she doesn't work fridays!😕

Good luck on scheduling that interview! Sarah was really nice when I talked to her on Monday.

What # are you calling? I've been trying to call Sarah all week and she's never there and her mailbox is full. No response from e-mail either. What is one to do????😱

Sarah is nice, but she isn't very on top of things. All of these complaints make me feel extra fortunate to never have any real problems. I feel like she is a bit overwhelmed since this is her first admission cycle. (I think)

I called Linda Ferris and she told me she would check my GPA and MCAT scores and possibly speed the process up.

That is probably one of the most useful posts in this entire thread! 😀

I'm interviewing on the 18th and am debating whether I want to fly in early to explore Ft. Lauderdale/Miami over the weekend, is anyone else gonna be around? I know the M1's will be busy studying for their test on Monday so I don't want to go alone!

I just found out about the MPH degree Nova offers for free to DO students. Can any of the current students comment on how it works into your schedules. I am curious if anyone feels overwhelmed while getting both degrees. Can you also share any examples of the research/programs you do for the degree.
Any comments are appreciated...thanks.

I'm sure that I know a few M1's will be able to find some time to say hi over the weekend.

If nothing else, Monday night a group of us get together at my house for dinner. Interviewees welcome 🙂 Shoot me a PM if you'd like to come by.

I'm curious about this as well. I do (eventually) want an MPH, but if I can get one for free, I'll take it, if it's manageable.

Then I can be officially overly educated! Sweet.

I was told that it is very manageable, primarily because the classes seem easy relative to your regular classes. I am personally interested in the MSBI degree, which I don't think is as smoothly integrated into the curriculum...as in not at all.

the MPH program is very manageable. especially when you get to second year, which is a lot less stressful! only reason i didnt pick it was because our first year was pretty hectic and i was afraid i'd fall back on my classes. however, many of my friends did choose to do it and have had no problems. the classes are a couple of nights a week. they do a lot of group presentations and projects but are very manageable and really only require your extra time. so if you are able to be on top of you regular classes and dont procrastinate too much, youll hardly notice it.

also, for those interested in more! NOVA also offers a dual DO/DMD program

Yea, they keep mentioning this but have not given much information on it. Do you know how many people are truly interested in this and out of the people that are, how many actually get the opportunity? I'm mildly interested but they really only tell you it is competitive and that is it.

Sounds fun! I'll be in contact with you once my itinerary is a little bit more concrete!

do you think that affects the dynamic between students and helping each other to succeed- healthy competition, no effect, something else?

I don't think it affects the student dynamic at all. All in all it's actually a really supportive environment.

I have friends here that are doing better then me, and friends that aren't doing as well, we all try to help each other out. It works out pretty well. Also, we have a REALLY amazing class president who does great things for our class as far as functioning as a unit and being helpful to eachother. He really facilitates positive interaction.

As different as every PERSON in our class is, every class is different too. And we're all good at different things. We share notes, we study together, we answer questions for each other. If the grading system has an effect on us I haven't seen it.

It is a pretty large class, so there is bound to be a couple of overly competitive types there though. 😛

I got to meet him at my interview! He was awesome. I was very impressed by his honesty about things and his enthusiasm for NSU.

While I would prefer to have a pass/fail grading system, I do like that for residency apps NSU gives the class breakdowns for every course in order to put each individual's grade in perspective. Because, really, saying you got a "B" in a class doesn't mean that much, until you hear that everybody else got a C and you rocked the class, or everybody else got an A and you were a slacker.

I should hear back soon....fingers crossed!

Good luck beachblonde! I hear they accept ~70% or more of their interviewees.🙂

As for competitiveness of the students and the grading system....for what I saw when I was there it doesn't seem to make a difference at all and students help eachother out.

On a completely separate note, when do students start figuring out where they're going to live? (no way I am living on campus! Not that it's not gorgeous of course..)

Also...on my acceptance letter it says I need 0.6 units of English to meet their requirement for matriculation. Gr! Has anyone else gotten out of this by petitioning it?

How do you have .6 credits required? I think it might be easier to take some b.s. writing seminar thing.

People probably start renting out apts a month or so before they intend to move down there. I know that some of the older students own houses/condos and rent them out to the 1st and 2nd year peeps. Although I have yet to get in, I've already gotten an offer for a place to live, so clearly people are trying to get renters.

And .6 credits of English? Seriously? I think there should be a rule that if it's fewer than 1 credit, you can pass out. I've never heard of .6 credits....😕

Oh. trust me. There are. Most of the people in our class are REALLY friendly and awesome. Sure, there are some that rub me the wrong way....but I just avoid/ignore/don't deal with them.

It's kind of funny, but every week I meet at least one or two more people in my class that I really like (we do dinner every monday night and new people come over and add to the group every time!)

I really like it here.

I'll come right out and say it, I was REALLY freaked out after my first group of exams. I wasn't sure I belonged here at NSU at all (I failed my first anatomy exam, and my first physio exam after studying like CRAZY). I had hurt my back and missed 3 weeks of school off and on for doctor's appointments and b/c of not being able to drive...I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to get into the swing of things.

But the support I found from my fellow students was phenominal. People offered to study with me, to help me master the material to help me adjust to school. In my society there are a few M2's that are awesome as well, who really helped me out. My classmates drove me places (when I couldn't) and one of them even moved in with me for a week to help me around the house...seriously. How amazing is that?

Beyond that, the PROFESSORS were really supportive. Because of all this, I did MUCH better on my last anatomy exam and today, I had my 2nd physiology test and did *really* well.

School is a huge adjustment. I shudder to think what kind of a position I would be in right now if I had gone to one of the other schools that had accepted me. I know people that are at each of them and SEVERAL of them have reported feeling very isolated and on their own. I'm so glad I don't have that. I count myself really lucky.

NSU has it's issues, sure. What school doesn't? (I can think of...off the top of my head, 2 professors that make me spend the majority of the time that they're lecturing trying to figure out creative ways to end my life with a coffee cup, a highlighter and a spiral notebook....) but all in all, it's an amazing place.

Beachblonde, I'm glad you guys got to meet Bryan. He's been a HUGE part of my sanity here. He's really an amazing person, who no matter what's going on with HIM will always take time to listen to his fellow classmates. I find that extremely impressive and I'm really glad we elected him.

I'm in!!!!

I think.

It says "provisional acceptance" on my status page, that counts, right?

Qualifier: being on my second app cycle has made me a bit more neurotic than I would normally ever be....my nerves are a bit frazzled.

I'll take it!

It's dancing banana time!

There's some irony here that I only applied to NSU on a whim, knowing zip about the school. Good thing I clicked that box on aacomas!

Congrats everyone one your acceptances!!! I got the "provisional acceptance" status today too! I'm pretty sure NSU is my top pick of where I am accepted so far. 🙂

Congrats to everyone who got in. I will most likely be there with you in August.

Does anyone know where I can find an academic calendar for the osteopathic program (c/o 2013)? I'm pathetic for not being able to find it, but so it goes.

Is that in Webstar under "Decision: "?

Is that in Webstar under "Decision: "?

Yes.

Congrats to everyone. It looks like this class is shaping up nicely. Kind of funny that about 20 of us will know each other before we even start. I'm assuming I'll be there unless called off the waitlist at FSU.

my webstar says Decision: Provisionally Accepted too. i'm pretty much freaking out. i got into medical school. i'm so excited.

Do you think anyone can use that shuttle to the Davie ComfortSuites even if we're not staying there? 😀

can someone tell me what the deposit schedule is like please? is it really 950 dollars by december 15th and then another grand by march? i was hoping for only a couple hundred in december. that would be a lot more fair.
