NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know I could probably search through everyone's previous posts and find this information, but would those of you who have either gotten the email about being under review or have had their webstar status change mind posting when you think you were complete?

I know they didn't send out a complete email, but I got my my email confirmation of receipt of my 2ndary on 7/8 and my LOR email on 7/23, so I should have been complete then.

It may help me from feeling inferior and left out. (or maybe not :scared:)

Signature page?

I sent that in right away and received the email confirmation, so it's not that.

You could just be in the second group of people being reviewed. I was complete ~7/13 so you were a little behind me by the time LORs got in. We'll see. Like I said, its just the first group they are reviewing right now, they'll be doing more next week.

I wouldn't take having a status as meaning much because mine says "under review" and they definitely do not have my letters yet as they were finally mailed out by my undergrad yesterday, so I wouldn't put too much into thinking that a "status change" actually means anything. I'm just saying...

I think people put too much stock into every little change on their application profile. It probably means nothing and not worth overanalyzing

While that's probably true, it's also important to keep an eye on your status for mistakes. Someone already had their LORS under another name, and I've read other stories on here about apps being held up or interview invites being missed because of errors on the schools end.

Hey all - I just spoke with a woman in the admissions office. I signed the signiture page electronically and she said for some applicants that was fine. All this talk about mailing in the signiture page had me confused because I was never prompted to sign it, and last time I called Nova they told me my application was complete. So if you're unsure about whether or not to send it I would call admissions. It was very easy to ask them, and they're always extremely nice over the phone.

Thats exactly what I was told. 🙂

True but for this submitting now it can't hurt to send it. All it costs is a stamp.

Or a phone call.

I called with the same question and they said the only times that people usually need to mail in the page is if they leave out their digital signature (name) or the date. Other than that she stated it's usually good. She said that mine checked out and the file was considered complete. So, if you think you're good I wouldn't sweat it, but if you are worried, just give them a call.

yea i called as well...the individual on the phone said the signature thing is from like 2 years and as long as u typed ur name towards the end of the app u should be good =)
i sent in the signature thing earlier today.....woops...

Definitely not from 2 years ago. I was told I didn't need it last year until December when they finally told me I wasn't complete because they never received a signature page.... and yes I filled in my name at the end of the app last year as well. I did it just to be safe, it can't hurt.

Hmmm, that's interesting.... I might just mail mine in as well then... That is pretty jacked up, but to be honest I got the sense from calling NSU that my call was fielded more by a call center that covers the entire university than specific admissions counselors for the DO program. That would leave a much larger margin for error if the different programs have different requirements.

Probably a good call to mail it in.

dang really..good thing i mailed it in then..good lookin out

Other people were complete without it. I'm not sure whats going on with it but I figured I'd just send it while I sent my application to be safe. If you are already in progress of review I doubt it will make a difference, however, for those who haven't submitted secondaries yet its better to be safe

Did you mail your secondary? I did mine completely online... 😕

No, did secondary online but as soon as i finished it I put the signature page in the mail.

Ahh, gotcha. I was confused when you said you sent it in with your application. I'll probably mail mine Monday... All this wasted paper, when we could just inconvenience a few electrons instead...

 if they say you are complete than I don't think its a big deal. Wait until monday and see if your status thing comes up as under review or decision pending. If not, send it

You guys have me worried. I sent my secondary in almost a month ago, but no signature page, and I don't have that applicant status thing. I don't have my DO letter in yet, so maybe that's why, but I just sent in the signature page. Hopefully that doesn't take me out of a first round review.

I don't see the spot on the website that your status changes to review... I click on the two links and neither contain a spare line to add the info... Are you just looking at those two links or do they add something different when you're under review?

Just in the two links. Mine looks like this:

Application Data
Admission Term: Fall 2011
Admission Type: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
Application Preference: Not Entered
Decision: Decision Pending
<rest of the application info>

The new part is the decision box, which shows that it is pending where in the past the entire area was absent. It seems as though only a handful of people actually have that part as this moment. Like I said, they told me they began reviews on Monday but they go full swing next week into reviews so the majority of others may convert then. I didn't mean to freak anyone out by suggesting the signature page, rather seeing if there was any correlation between those of us who have submitted the signature page to those who have had the box added to show the review status.

I was complete, at least I think because I got that LOR confirmation on 7/16. So I guess I'm a little behind you too. Hopefully that means i'm in the 2nd group to be reviewed :xf:

I'm also a little worried about that signature page now. But I did call admissions the day I finished my app and asked about the sig page and they said it wasn't needed as long as I signed it electronically...I think i'm just going to call to see if my app is complete to make sure.

Thanks. I was wondering where they were going to list that. I don't have that box yet. I'm sure I'll have it soon enough.

 not what they told me when I called.... told me they started monday and will start handing out interview invites next week. Who knows.

ya to be honest there admissions office hasnt been the most organized (the vibe i get from them). they take forever to get back to you but in their defense they are in a moving process and stuff....hopefully we hear of interviews next week!

same here. said they start reviewing them next week and handing out invites at the end of next week too.

Hey Guys, I just checked my application and it seems that they took away the "application preference" column. Still do not have a status column. Haha but I guess this means that the ball is moving!

I am completely at a loss as to how to log-in and check my status.

I enter my NSU ID in WebStar and PIN as I created it and it says login failed. If I hit forgot PIN it fails me too.

The link in the original e-mail leads me back to the familiar screen with two applications, but no status of any kind or notice of completion etc.

So lost....

This is where you will find it. A status bar will pop up there when you go under review. It will likely be the 2nd application.

I've been complete since July 9. I'd think I'd have something there... I guess I'll call once people start getting invites if mine is still stagnant with nothing. No need to rush into calling them before interviews start....

Did you call to make sure you were complete? I've called like 4 times  They supposedly told someone else that they will start handing out interviews at the end of this week. I was told the same thing. :xf:

This is what mine looks like. Something has changed, but no status.

Who knows. We'll just have to wait. :xf:

Hey guys, so my signature page was received yesterday along with an update that I sent them, last night I received an email saying:

blah blah blah

The following were received:
- Signature Page
- Essay

blah blah blah

So my question is... an essay wasn't necessary to send to them correct? They were just saying they received my update, which was more of a formal letter? Because I don't want a ridiculous 1 page letter to be my essay haha.

 No there wasn't an essay. They are just acknowledging the receipt of your letter

When do you get a signature page? I sent my secondary awhile ago, and I just forwarded my MCAT scores on Sunday afternoon. I should have everything in' I received an email a week ago about my letters being received, but no word on this signature page?

I didn't send one in either. It seems like some people need to send one in and others don't. I called and the rep said my application is complete. So, if you think you are missing something, just give them a call. Some are printing out and mailing in the signature page (it should have been in an email to you), but we'll find out soon enough if that is really a necessary piece for those that were marked complete without it...

I just submitted the app, and did you guys do the E-sign thing where it asks you to type your name and the date? thats all I did. what other form are we suppose to send in, I thought that was the only one.

Hey Guys,

My aacomas application was verified 8/10 and I have yet to receive the secondary here. I have 32O MCAT and a 3.45 gpa. Do you think I was screened out or possibly didn't make the cut. I haven't heard from them, but received CCOM and LECOM secondaries already. Just wondering if I should prepare for bad news.

Thanks

You can fill out the secondary before they e-mail you. It's on Webstar

I think you just need to give it more time. If you were just verified on the 10th, you might not have made the cut for that weeks downloads. The schools download the apps each Tuesday.

Plus, Novas been slow this week. Where are our interview invites Nova????

Nova, you sit on a throne of lies!

I need something, anything before the weekend

Hahahaha! I might have to go watch Elf again now.

But yes I concur, they need to get with the program. I would love an interview at Nova. Btw I still have no status on my application summary 🙁

Does KCUMB post your application status anywhere online like other schools or is all of their communication via a private email?

Hey Guys!
I'm currently an M2 at NSUCOM,

While I don't have any answers to the speed/process of admission applications: (I swear these things are run by hamsters wheels in a giant underground factory)... If you have any questions about the program, what the school's like, or what South Florida is like--feel free to send me a PM and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions I can.

Good luck with it all!
