So I'm flying in on Saturday the 25th for my interview on the 28th. What's there to do/see? Which hotel should I stay at?

Comfort Suites Ft Lauderdale Airport West
2540 Davie Rd, Davie, FL

They have a free shuttle that will pick you up from the FLL airport (call them when you get there, do not take the taxi otherwise you'll pay over $20 like I did last year) and the shuttle will also take you to NSU for your interview. Also, free continental breakfast at the hotel.

Sorry, gotta go. I would write more but i have an Anatomy exam today.
😉 Yes, I am kinda taking a 'mini break' right now from all the studying.
Good luck you guys, I still think NSU is great (even though I'm facing exams for the next three weeks)

The beach is 10-15 min east of campus. Downtown fort lauderdale has a bunch of clubs/bars/restaurants. There is beach place (right on fort lauderdale beach) which has a bunch of shops/restaurants. There is a huge mall northwest of campus called Sawgrass Mills mall which has every store/outlet store you can think of. There is also the hardrock casino about 10 minutes away which is a hotel/casino and has a whole outside section full of clubs/bars/restaurants.

All the things you don't get to enjoy all that much once you are a medical student...haha.

That's where I'm staying and my interview is also on the 28th. See you there Sinfest!

may I ask how long it took from the time you application was complete to the time you received the good news?

I sent in my secondary on 8/9 & saw on WebStar on 8/31 I was invited. I wasn't expecting to hear from them as soon as I did because I had not sent in my LORs yet.

Thanks for the info, and good luck on your exams! 👍

I'll be flying into FLL at 6:20AM that day from the West Coast, and I was planning to go straight to NSU from there. Is there any chance I can call that Comfort Suites shuttle and have them take me to NSU (i.e., will they want to verify my information before sending over the shuttle)?

It's a long shot, but if not, I'll take the taxi. Thanks!

Wow, you are really cutting it close. I thought I was bad flying in around midnight the night before.

As for the shuttle, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask, but since you won't officially be a registered guest yet they may not want to shuttle you around.

I think you have to be a guest at the Comfort Suites because the last time I was there, the hotel operator asked for my full name to verify before she had the shuttle pick me up. But definitely call them and ask.

I forgot to add: In case you guys want to leave your luggage behind at the Comfort Suites while you're attending your NSU interview, the hotel staff will lock up your stuff in their office until you return to the hotel. They did this for us last year, I recall. But again, call them first to verify.
Good :luck: everyone!

Gotta study for the written portion of the Anatomy exam tomorrow (will be harder than today's lab practical exam). Please enjoy your free time
before med school..I know this is oft-repeated advice from several med students but it's so true.

Ok, so I never knew that you could already send in Nova's secondaries before the primary applications had even been sent (submitted 8/28, verified 9/7 due to labor day, sent to schools tomorrow 9/14)...I already feel like I'm applying kind of late because it wasn't until late in the summer that I decided to apply this cycle (I was planning on next cycle..). Do I even stand a chance at getting interviewed? I re-took my MCAT on Sept 3 (I did horribly on the first one, I'm too embarrassed to even mention how low I scored), but my cum GPA is 3.4, science 3.4, with plenty of medical field work as well as a decent amount of volunteer service thrown in. I'm from South Florida so this is one of my top schools on my list.

sounds like you'd be a pretty decent applicant. ur gpa is higher than mine and i was fortunate enough to get an interview. but the interview spots are getting later. mine is for end of november alraedy.

I was wondering what I could do with my luggage. Good looking out, thanks! 👍

I'm not sure if anyone has had this experience, but my secondary app was submitted and waiting for my mcat score which was released two weeks ago, but Nova has not recieved the score yet (the rest of the schools have), I've called like 5 times already! is this normal?

Hey!! I'm a 4th year at Nova. If you have any questions, PM me 🙂

I scheduled my interview with NSU a week or so ago and I believe they said they would email a packet with info about the interview day and directions and such, but I haven't seen anything. Does it usually take awhile? Or should I call?

Could you tell us some of the questions they asked?

For those of you who have received interview invites - what did you have sent in before receiving the interview? I know other schools don't require you to have the DO letter prior to interview, but is this the same policy for Nova? I'm still waiting on my DO rec letter (still trying to find a DO to shadow in Tallahassee) but I have all my other letters ready to be sent. Would they still not consider my application as complete aka no interview?

I received an invite to interview w/o LORs in.

The questions included stuff like tell us about yourself in two minutes, opinion on health care reform, why DO and why nova, what was the most difficult course you might have taken and what did you do, health care experiences, and a few others..can't remember but not too hard. Hope this helps!

Ya really helpful thanks!! Good luck!

ahhhhhhhh. so they sent me an e-mail telling me to call and set up an interview. I called them and they said there aren't any more open interview slots at this time? wtf?? they said that if someone cancels I can take their spot so please let me know if any of you get accepted somewhere else and/or decide not to attend your nsu interview.

Thanks!!!

Just got this in my inbox from them...
"Thank you for your interest in Nova Southeastern University.
We are pleased to acknowledge today's receipt of the following document(s) for admission to Nova Southeastern University:

  • DRESSC

  • CCONDU"
Not to quote the Double-Rainbow guy but "What does it mean?" My app and LORs have been in for a while and I just interviewed on Tuesday. No status updates on WebStar. Any ideas?

Man, Nova has a ton of issues with their email server. I have no idea, but I bet your heart jumped when you saw it in your inbox... then turned sideways as if to say, "WTF?" You might want to give them a call on that one.

It's the dress code and code of conduct papers you signed at the interview

For those of you who were in interview group 1, the book on interviewing for medical school I was referencing is:
"The Medical School Interview" by Jeremiah Fleenor, MD

http://www.amazon.com/Medical-Schoo...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1284602096&sr=8-1

Its fairly useful. It at least narrows down the wealth of information you need to convey in 30minutes or less.

Ahhh, thanks for the link good buddy. I'm going to look into it. I'm sure you know who I am from the name.

Received this also and mulled over it for about 5 minutes before realizing what it was...

And diamondclub stole my thunder on the answer.

It was great meeting you and good luck! I've already checked my webstar for updates about 5 times since Tuesday haha.

Can anyone please comment on the interview format and what to expect. I looked through old posts, got some idea, can anyone provide any more details.

I am scheduled for 11/9/10, i am comming from Seattle, WA

Thanks.

It is you, two interviewers, and open file. The interview was very laid back and in mine the interviewers seemed to want to be advocates for you to the Adcom. They asked specific questions about things that I had put in my application and talked about my PS a bit. It really just was a straight forward interview and nothing that I didn't expect.

It seemed the only thing that anyone needs to know going in is RELAX and you will do fine.

Hey everyone! From what I have found out is that NOVA hasn't started filling the dates for the spring yet with interviews (most likely to deal with the chaos of the current interviewees). TRUST me that there are dates in the Spring that go well into the middle of March. Just keep calling them back every so often as things change all the time with list.

Also, you don't need to spend money buying a book about how to interview for medical school! You just need to be yourself and know who you are! The profs conducting the interviews are well aware of the types that apply for medical school and can see through the bull (especially the pre-prepared answers). When I interviewed I told them that the beach was of the many reasons I wanted to come to NSUCOM.

And yes you will get random emails from the NSU listserv thing. They are usually gibberish so don't get nervous about them. The key emails are from Ellen Rondino (Head Admissions Counselor).

I gave a tour to the interviewees about a week ago and they were all types of nervous. After I told them a few jokes and made them laugh, they really loosened up and it set them up to do well in the interview. You just need to relax and be yourself! Good luck to all!

If you're the guy who gave me my tour, you were extremely chill (and informative). We were the group the admissions lady went searching for because we were running maybe 5 minutes late, and you had a doc you were shadowing a few minutes after. I was afraid med students would be just as neurotic as most pre-meds I've met. You convinced me otherwise 🙂

Thanks.

hey everyone,

I am M1 here at Nova, if you have any questions please feel free to message me. Good luck to all you!

Good luck Mega, and everyone else interviewing tomorrow. Make sure you all let us know how it goes 👍

Hey anyone need a ride to NSU tomorrow for their interview? I live right next to Fort lauderdale International Airport and am willing to help out a fellow interviewee! lemme know!

Good luck Mega, and everyone else interviewing tomorrow. Make sure you all let us know how it goes 👍

Good luck!

Which hotel are you staying at, and would you recommend it? I'm interviewing there on Oct 14th and haven't decided if I should keep my reservation at the Extended Stay. It's cheap, and I think I'd rather rent a car and have some freedom instead of paying more to stay at a place with a shuttle. I'll be there for 4 days.
