I know they started interviewing late (I heard November). I am pretty sure they still have seats left. Oh, and if they had your LORs on file, chances are they will be getting back to you sooner than later. good luck!

Hey. I just had my interview on march 7th. My interviewer said that the class of 2012 has a class size of 295. I know a couple of people who got interviewed and will get in or have gotten in but they will not go there...so more seats for the rest of us. See you in the fall

how was everyone notified about an interview by phone, email or snail mail?

i just interviewed there last week and was told by an admissions director that we'd be contacted via snail mail.

is anyone aware of how many applicants are interviewed and how many are accepted?

somebody posted this in another forum, it's also from 2005.

NYCOM
-Applied: Instate 660, Out-of-state 2637
-Interviewed: Instate 367, OOS 353
-Accepted: Instate 286, OOS 254
-Enrolled: Instate 198, OOS 112

not sure what the source of the data is. the original is a JPG file that is too big to attach, but has 2005 data from much of the other schools. PM me if you want me to e-mail it to you.

This year for the class of 2012 there are 295 seats total.

does anyone have any idea when the next adcom meeting is? i interviewed on 3/7.

I interviewed the day before you. When they were speaking with us, they told us they really can't say when the next adcom meeting is. It usually happens whenever everyone has free time in their schedule. So we really won't know when they meet next. Sucks I know...

I also interviewed on the 7th of march at 1:00 pm but they called me in at 2:15 pm for my interview. Did you interview at 9:00 am?

i have heard nothing from NYCOM but when i called they said it's not too late b/c they interview so long. Should I fax them over some new grades and also send them some letter of rec or do i have to wait till they ask for letters?

i interviewed at 1:00pm as well. i'm sure i was on tour with you then haha. i called today they said it takes 2-4 weeks. i'm hoping 2 weeks as i have a deposit at another school due in 2 weeks!

hey folks,

For those of you who interviewed; How long did it take for NYCOM to review your application and send you a secondary? My AACOMAS and LORs are all there, now I'm just waiting.

i spoke to nycom director of admissions today, they told me they will make decisions on acceptance at the end of the month. she also stated that if you have a march 13 or 26 interview it doesn't matter because your decision will be made at the same time. So i chose the 26th to interview plus the 13th is tomorrow anyway. Not sure if the 7th is included in that bunch though,

BTW: I am super excited by the interview, since they are my first choice.

I interviewed in the Serota building...but they didn't give me or anyone else in the Serota building who was called at 1:00 pm or 9:00 am a tour. They think we have already seen the medical school because we go to school nearby - which is not the case

When did you apply?? How long did it take to get the interview?? Congratulations!!😀

i applied last june and was complete in the first week of august and took the mcat in September and got a crappy 22r:scared:. Didnt hear anything from nycom obviously. I took the mcat again in January and got a 26🙁 which still not close to what i was hoping for, but i got the interview. Aacomas sent my file to nycom on march 1st and i received their decision for an interview today. They sent my interview offers through mail today, so they might have sent your's also. I called them up today, and they told me that they had just sent my offer through the mail this morning. They are not interviewing next week from what the consoler told me.

Ya, we have spring break next week (woo hoo!), so that is probably why they aren't interviewing.

out of curiousity, how long are your winter and spring breaks?

we had approximately 2 weeks for winter break and we have a week next week for spring break. also a few days at thanksgiving.

😀👍😀

Who did you speak too? I have been trying to get in touch with someone there for 2 weeks and every time I call, no one is available. They took my information and said someone would get back to me but of course no one ever does.

the admissions number is 516 686 3747. Call them up and ask for the status of your application and then ask if a decision will made soon etc.

I just got a letter in the mail from NYCOM acknowledging receipt of my application materials. For those of your received this letter and an interview, how long after receiving it did you get the secondary in the mail?? There are at least a few folks who also got this letter and didn't hear from them otherwise. Is this letter a bad thing? Would I have gotten a secondary/interview right away if I was going to get one? Any helpful responses would be appreciated 👍

The first letter they send out is to anyone who applies to the school. It is letter to tell you the school recieved your application and you should send in letters of recommendation to the school. It is a good thing, because it means the school recieved your info. The second letter comes with the secondary and gives you a number to call to set up an interview. For me it came two weeks or so after the first letter, but that was last year. They inerview between 600-700 students for about 295 spots. If someone is accepted they usually get the answer a week or two after the interview. Hope this helps. Good Luck with applications!!!:luck::luck::luck:

Quick question for you current NYCOM students:

First off, I was recently accepted into the class of 2012!!!!:luck: and look forward to maybe having one of you as my big next year. Secondly, my twin brother was also accepted for the class of 2012 !!!:luck:!!!!so this medical school better hunker down before we get there!

Onto the question(s);

Where do you guys live? I realize this question may be posted a bunch of times but I am in the mood to apartment hunt and want to narrow down my areas. I know from talking with some of the students there that Glen Cove is an option but I feel Eastside Queens may be a better deal. So please give me all the input you can

How bad is traffic? I am seeting my limit at about an hour away but do not want to run the risk of being late, you know with the mandatory attendance and all. I would gather coming from Queens would be more of a hassle but I really would like your opinion on the matter.

Thanks

25-30 mins at ~7am from Forest Hills, 20 mins from Bayside. 45 mins-1 hour going the other way at about 5-6pm. There's alot of good info on places to live in the NYCOM 2012 thread in the Osteopathic Classes section 🙂

So anyone who interviewed last week hear anything yet? I wonder how much longer we gotta wait till the next adcom meeting...

I interviewed on February 27th and still have yet to hear.

They don't disclose when the adcom meetings are...so just sit back and wait it out 🙂

I interviewed on 3/11, afternoon session.

hey what did everyone think of the interview. starting to get nervous. mine is on the 26th

NYCOM had the most chilled out interview that I have had from any of my interviews. You are interviewed for 15-20 minutes. Make sure you know your application well. I was asked an ethical question ( If you were to kill a patient what would your reaction be and what would you do about it in the future). That was last year though. Use the SDN site for the questions that were asked to other interviewee's. I used Princeton Book which had about 100 interview style questions which was very heplful. But it was a very relaxing interview more of a conversation than anything else.

If you have questions about the school feel free to PM me.

For those NYCOM students/Future NYCOM students:

Is there a dress code for attending classes? I know some medical schools require at least a shirt and tie for men attending lecture. Does this apply for NYCOM as well?

most of the ppl that interviewed on the 7th morning in the serota building had interviews ranging from 6-10 minutes. The afternoon people had interviews of about 25-30 minutes, mine was 40 minutes. But as someone mentioned you couldnt tell the difference because it is very relaxed.

nope, no dress code for lecture, just for omm/anatomy labs.

I interviewed on the 28th of February and recieved my acceptance letter today, the letters were sent out on the 12th so you should be hearing relatively soon. I also recieved an acceptance letter from LECOM today and I'm leaning towards going there, but anyways Good Luck!

I was accepted to NYCOM today! It's my top choice, this is a good day🙂 (I interviewed on Feb 28th)

Welcome to the NYCOM family!!!🙂:zip::banana:

anyone else interview on feb 27th and NOT hear anything back yet?? also, does anyone know if we're notified if rejected (or just accepted)? do you think it's bad that ppl who interviewed on the 28th have heard but i haven't? (OK sorry for the incessant questioning)

i've been DYING to p/u my phone and call admissions, but she (in a friendly, yet serious tone) mentioned it wouldn't be a good idea to call about the status of one's application until 1 month has passed... this is the most nerve racking wait ever.

many congrats to all of you who have been accepted 🙂

I don't think it would hurt you to call, I interviewed on the 28th and called this morning, they told me all letters were mailed out on the 12th, then I went and checked my mail and I had something. I'm sure it depends where you are but I'm sure you will hear within the next couple of days. Good luck!😉
