MSc44

not trying to start another one of these threads.....but i have herd of several people and 2 of whom i know who i went to undergrad with who had sub 20 MCATS and got into nycom. I understand they look at the whole Person but is this more common then i thought, these people i knew did have high grades in UG, what is the nycom average. Any nycom'ers out there who were maybe in the same boat or who could atleast speak for this

I am a DO applicant with a MSc in mol bio who is studying for the MCATS now so i was very curious about this

My year (class of 2005) the average MCAT at NYCOM was 24. Considering that I know several people who had scores above 30, there are probably many people with sub-20 scores. My sense is that many of these people are admitted under special extended programs, where you are given the opportunity to take three years to complete the usual two years of pre-clinical coursework.

I don't know whether this is the result of any philosophy of the admissions committee, or if it is just a consequence of the need to pack 320 warm bodies into the class every year.

Our class (2009) has been told several times that we have the highest GPA/MCAT averages of all previous classes. Eventually when all that data is released we'll be able to see what those averages are.

my class has also been told that repeatedly. i think this may be a general observation across the board...

it's what they tell every class so that you can look at the MSIIs like they're pure idiots during breaks! lol

i think it is a general trend across the country as the DO name grows, more ppl apply. i think this is also evident in the fact that a number of DO schools recently had over filled their classes thinking that fewer ppl would keep their seat.

They do this in undergrad too. They tell you that the incoming freshman has higher GPA and SAT scores than previous years.
