NYU 2012 application

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ok I'm just going to reply to all your messages here. Yes, I do know someone that is directly related with NYU admissions so yea i do know that below 83 for sure doesn't get an interview, but hey if people still want to apply go ahead I'm not telling people not to it's their choice. Also, no offense at all but you cannot compare yourself to other people just because you got into school with an 80. There are more than 75% of indians that apply to schools who have above 90's for part 1 but because they are indian and schools have to fill their diversity quotas they don't get in. I'm not saying the only reason you got in was because you're a non-indian but it is a huge part of you getting interviews or accepted. Also just because you got in with low scores please stop trying to say that scores don't matter when they do if you're applying in a category that has so many applicants.

👍👍👍

what I fail to understand is are you guys trying to help each other?? or score a brownie point??

Brownie points? Do you know what those are? One would try getting those in school or at work.. not on this forum. Other than that I told a fact to help people and that's it. Anyone can take it for what it's worth. But, other than that if someone wants to defend why they got into school they can, but I'm not going to keep on egging them on. All I said was what I know..BUT if someone gets in with a score below what I said.. awesome and good luck!

Let me stir the pot a bit.

I have a good NBDE part 1 score (93) and worked very hard to get that, a decent GPA (3.8) and i would think, a pretty good "overall package", as folks say in this forum, with full time experience back home for a 1 1/2 year, one year volunteer assistanship work in here, publication, etc, etc.

Contrary to the popular belief i did not any call from BU or NYU last year and i'm seriously tired of hearing this **** (pardon my french). Yes i did got a call this year in BU and NYU, i guess its still a long wait.

For all i know they might be selecting candicates using a crystal ball.

So please, enough already with the scorers, achievers and all rounders.

I am sorry to say but definitely you need to mind your language and attitude. Nobody is forcing you to take the advice here. FYI, don't lie... NYU hasn't sent out any invites surely you are living in some crystal ball interview. Inspite of high stats and an overall package, if its a long wait then please ask yourself WHY and figure out your weakness/es. This would surely help.

My point was: if schools don't select below a definite score why don't put that as minimum requirement for application?

If a school says that if you having a passing score (anything above 75 = passing score) you are elegible for application, and they will not select you if you haven't scored higher then 83 let's use what has been said here, isn't that disrespectful at least?

That being said I feel sorry for those that applied and had no idea about the 'hidden requirement' of a part 1 83 and above.

I wish good luck to all applicants. :xf:

people do get admission with scores of 80 too...no doubt it is difficult but people have made it ..they have worked hard on other aspects of their application(part 2, ce courses, voluntary work etc) and got through

With all my respect to everyone, over all profile does matter, getting high score is important for sure, but i know 2 people got in one with 79% and the other one 80% both have no part 2 but they have US exp, and they did some other courses in North American universities.

I wish you all the best guys, we will all get in one day and we will meet in one of those dental conferences discussing more important things than how does the admission works. 😉

ok thinking about this makes me hungry, i will go to have my breakfast 😀

The website says that ADA Processes your order after 10 business days of your order placement!!!🙂call nyu to confirm!

they had my toefl report on file even though i had sent it 6 months ago. they usually take 3 weeks to send application complete mail. wait another ten days.. if you dont hear from them it will be better to send another report.

Seriously?? NYU gets around 1000 applications a year. They get money for each of those applications. So, $100 from 1000 applicants just to take their application and maybe not even read them? Yea I don't think they are going to state that so they lose a lot of their application pool. It's common sense really.

As I stated, total lack of respect... They really need to do this do make this money?!

If their time is so important not to give enough importance to the "below 83" just say so! 😉

If we don't have anyone with 83 and below being accepted this year, early on next cycle I'll start a campaign "don't give money to schools that won't accept you"! :meanie:

Common sense...

thanx a lot den25. i got another email from them about the application. it was not specifically addressed to me but they said that if there hasnt been a submission of the nbde and toefl report then plz do so or else ignore the email. i'm confused as toefl and nbde will take atleast 3 weeks to send the report and the deadline for application is 1st dec? will it be ok if they get the reports after 1st dec?

Nobody will receive scores next year:laugh:

lol

You're right, I had forgotten about that!!

Well, they have the DATs, so I guess they'll will have scores, we just don't know (yet) what would it be their "hidden minimum" for those. 😛

That's also true. May be they will not consider under 18 DAT score!

What is department for to send toefl score? is it graduate school or undergrad?

What is the minimum score required by NYUCD on the TOEFL exam?

There are two versions of the TOEFL exam. On the Paper-Based Test, the minimum score is 587. On the Internet-based Test (iBT), the minimum score required is 95. The Institute Code for NYUCD is 2597, if a Department Code is required, the code is 38. Every applicant must take the exam.

Nobody will receive scores next year:laugh:

They will still get scores for the people that have taken it before 2012 still. Also for people that don't have scores they will have to take DAT so NYU will have scores regardless.

There is more than one score involved in DAT. But yea they will have a requirement just like they had for part 1.

i think you should call and confirm. usually univs are strict abt rcving reports before the deadline.

Any idea if I can apply for NYU with TOEFL score 89

Any idea if I can apply for NYU with TOEFL score 89

NYU TOEFL 95

Requirements to Apply to Program
 Minimum score on iBT is 95

I guess not... If they ask for a passing score for the NBDE and only consider 83 and above, I don't even know what to say about being below their minimum requirements on TOEFL.

Sorry, but I don't think you can apply. There are many schools though that don't have a minimum requirement for TOEFL.

Good luck.

I have NBDE part 1 96, but no TOEFL yet. Does it make sense to apply without TOEFL and send them the result of it later, after deadline?
And as far as I understand, for the next years, those applicants who dont have scores on the NBDE are required to take DAT. Am I right, that this requirement doesnt apply to those candidates who have scores?

First of congrats on your part 1, really impressive score!

Most schools don't accept (for obvious reasons) scores after the deadline (reason why they're called deadline). 😉

About the DAT for the 2013 cycle it is my understanding that ALL applicants will need to take the DAT, no matter if you have a numerical score on NBDE or not.

"IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL 2013 APPLICANTS:
As of January 2012, the National Dental Board Exams Part 1 will change to a PASS/FAIL grading system; therefore, we will no longer receive scores. All who are interested in applying to our DDS Advanced Placement Program will be required to take the DAT (Dental Admission Test) or the Canadian DAT. This will help us assess each person applying to our program more efficiently. "

Reading this I think they won't even ask for part 1 anymore, is that right?
"we will no longer receive scores" 😕 Does that means just that they will no longer receive numerical scores, or that NBDE won't be a requirement anymore?

Good luck everyone.

Tomorrow I'm gonna call them and figure it out!

You're right, DAT is only for the people that don't have scores. Also for your TOEFL they won't accept your application as complete if they don't receive the scores before the deadline.

I guess they need to rephrase their website then...

NYU

"All who are interested in applying to our DDS Advanced Placement Program will be required to take the DAT (Dental Admission Test) or the Canadian DAT."

Is there anywhere else that they say "except those who have a NBDE numerical score"? Just wondering...

Actually I think that how it says "from 2012 it will be pass/fail and there will be no scores" kind of says that the school won't be able to have scores for people that take it in 2012, so they need DAT. So people that have taken it before have scores and won't need DAT. But, yes it is confusing and it does need to be rephrased on the website. I know about DAT though because I have a few friends that have called up NYU and asked since they worked really hard for part 1 and didn't want to take DAT. Every person they spoke to said the DAT is only required for people without numerical scores.
