Nyu

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How many people have actually received this 1:30 email?

So is anyone else just hovering over their email pathetically right now because the latest of a hundred theories about NYU's acceptance policy that have been thrown around on this forum says they send out acpetances around 1:30? Just asking.

NYU, you have killed my soul.

gmail has this add-on that you can install that tells you whether new mail has come in or not without the need to sign in all the time. so i just watch that the whole time instead. 😉

nada here.

I'm pretty close to officially not caring anymore. That's pretty lame sounding -- I know -- but I find that indifference works best for me in these sorts of situations.

Gmail notifier. I have it too but have noticed after months of use that there is a delay of maybe 30 seconds before it notifies you on your toolbar of new mail. You may be sitting there for 29 seconds with an NYU Acceptance E-mail before you realize... haha.

this is like one of those times in high school...when you've had a random hookup...but when you see "that person" in the cafeteria on monday morning, you pretend to be totally indifferent. you think you can "win" but pretending not to care.

IT NEVER WORKS.

I'm with you.....checking my email every 30 seconds for the past month is finally making me very apathetic towards this whole situation. 🙁

Any news?

(sorry... don't have a heart attack)

Same here. I've been trying to figure out if they're going to wait until the January 19th people go to committee before sending out boatloads more acceptances or what.

At any rate, I'm not holding my breath. I loved the school and the students (my host was awesome!), but I have some reservations nonetheless. Whatever... no more email checking for me today... I've got games to play and tv shows to download from iTunes. yippie!

madden 07 is a great way to distract yourself.

also vice versa; if you need to stop playing, check application statuses!

Last month was Monday and Thursday

Has anyone else come to the conclusion that they aren't really doing this thing in batches and that we're all just waiting for something that's never gonna happen. I mean, in the interview packet it says they send out the first batch, then admissions are rolling until the class is filled. I've come to the conclusion, that for the most part, if we haven't heard, we're f***ed

Word. I'm beginning to think that I interviewed for a waitlist spot. I'm tired of waiting around for bits and pieces that go out here and there.

What confuses me, though, is that not all that many people seem to have been accepted from the first round... well, given what's on SDN anyway. I wonder what's up with them this year. Maybe they'll send a whole new batch once they've reviewed the January people? I have no clue... argh.

I just wanted to say to everyone who is a frequent viewer of this thread: GOOD LUCK! NYU is one of my top choices, and I think it's exciting to hear when people get in. I'll keep checking back to make sure you guys don't go insane while you're waiting to hear back.

In the mean time, try to sit back, relax, and eat some ice cream... 😀

last year it seemed that quite a few ppl were accept around the same time in january (23rd?). also, they were in a similar situation where they had to extend their interview period.

so maybe they're waiting to review all the files before they do anything.

who knows though. i guess we'll have to keep waiting.

I can't tell what MDapps implies. It's up to 17 now -- about five have been added since after break, but only one has a date on it, and I think that was the person who posted earlier. So confused... 😕

Here is my rationale as to why we know that they haven't sent out all the acceptances yet, I hope it is encouraging.

According to mdapplicants, the same amount of people have been accepted to BU and NYU at this point, and I assume that the population on mapplicants that applies to both schools is roughly the same. Thing is, I know (because I interviewed there, and this is what they said they would do) that BU has sent out enough acceptances for 1/3 of their total class. Now I know that BU has a larger class size than NYU, but if NYU has really given out the same amount of acceptances, it would definately fill less than half of their class.

Does anyone agree or am I just being too optomistic??

I don't know, but I certainly hope you're right! 🙂

Here's my MDapps rationale: last year NYU accepted 30 applicants out of a total of 101 interviews (29.7%). This year, there are 17 acceptances out of 84 interviewers (20.2%). That means there's still 32% of the total offers left. Of course those numbers also include those accepted off of the waitlist, so it would technically be less.

And of course it's all just speculation, so just ignore all of that.

it definitely seems like all the acceptance haven't been sent out. i just looked at nyu threads from the last two years, and here are some things that were mentioned:

-someone mentioned admissions being "rolling" after the first wave in december, which would correspond to the trickle of acceptances we've been seeing on sdn.

-all waitlist and rejections are sent out on feb 15. waitlist is unranked, people seem to get off of it by mid may or so.

so i speculate that acceptances will trickle until feb 15, when everyone else can expect a waitlist or rejection in the mail.

What do you mean the waitlist is unranked? It has to be ranked. They don't just pull a name out of a hat so see who gets in when a spot opens up.

what i mean is:

1) what i provided is the information of others who went through this process in the near past, that you could have found yourself in a matter of seconds:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=259608&highlight=nyu+waitlist

2) unranked waitlists exist:

is this enough explanation, smart-ass?

Whoa, ease up douchebag. I was just asking a question. You don't need to get all snippy with me.

yeah, you were *just* asking a rhetorical question with a sarcastic follow-up, in an attempt to make my statement look ridiculous. no need to get snippy at all . . .

You're both right. They don't keep a list somewhere that they just go down as people drop out, but they do obviously try to take the best applicants left in the pool as spots become available. Live and let live.

Fight through PM if you like, but let's try to get along on this forum. From what I see you are both getting out of line. Let's let it go. We're all just stressed and worried.

sure. what people in general should realized is that adcoms aren't all-powerful gods, dropping to us applicants little bits of ambrosia with each acceptance and indifferent to whether or not we eat up. this process is a game and both the adcoms and applicants are the players. adcoms don't want to accept students who won't attend their school. it wastes their time, increases uncertainty in their enrollments, and makes them look less selective in the numbers. from what i discern, unranked waitlists encourage those students who most want to attend a school to express interest, so that the adcom will thereafter offer acceptances only to students who are still the most interested and likely to attend. so it's not simply the "best" applicants (which you could do in a ranked waitlist), but the most interested applicants who are ultimately selected through an unranked waitlist.

i was more just perturbed with someone sarcastically claiming my statement was obvously false without producing any evidence, when in fact the evidence supports what i claimed.

i'm sorry for calling you a smart-ass, koch. my point was made without having to do that.

i post things on the forums that are wrong as well. we can all stand to practice a little more evidence-based sdn.

And I apologize for the douchebag comment. But I assure you you're reading a lot more into my orignal statement than was actually there. I wasn't trying to discredit your post. I was just saying that the idea of an unranked waitlist doesn't make sense to me. I never meant to imply you were making it up.

then i over-reacted. sorry again.

soo i dunno if this has been pointed out yet - but the revisit thing on the nyu website says that registration deadline is February 9th.

I'm guessing if we don't hear back before like the 7th or 8th then we're probably waitlisted or rejected, rather than the 15th.

All the people who have gotten in so far, based on mdapps, have killer stats. Maybe there is a date for acceptances to more of the commoner type like myself. :luck:

I agree. Unless people with more modest stats have more "modest personalities" and less likely to post their successes on mdapps, it has to be that they accepted their super-whiz kid applicants. I really hope this is the case cause NYU is the **** and I would do anything to get into their school.

so regarding the question of whether they're done sending out acceptances or not (such as bretticus, doctor detroit and garrison were discussing), haven't we already established that they are sending out acceptances until february 15th?! I'm pretty sure that someone said that they asked the secretary about until when they're sending out acceptances, and she said the 15th. Although the secretary has thus far been unhelpful and this doesn't make sense with the 9th registration deadline, I do think that this makes the question of whether acceptances are done or not moot.

Also, people don't post their stats that don't have amazing numbers....NYU has to accept some people with normal stats--their average MCAT is hardly a 40.

And it would make me so mad to know that I interviewed for a waitlist spot since I interviewed post-Nov 15th (the last date that someone interviewed who got a letter). THIS IS SO ANNOYING!

Yes the secretary told me that they will be sending out acceptances till Feb 15. I have called twice there and both times this was the response.
Also, I'm pretty sure I read on this forum about someone with a Nov 30th interview who got an acceptance. So keep your hopes up!!

I think someone posted an acceptance on here who interviewed November 30th. I have no clue what's going on up there...

My predicted date, January 29. The December 18th acceptances(the first wave) were on a Monday, so I predict similar actions on NYU's part.

Although an acceptance tomorrow will be perfectly fine with me as well.😀

It gives me hope seeing so many people accepted in March/April/May...

Hopefully I can join a NYU Class of 2011 thread...🙁

Yanx, I know what you mean, we are all dieing to get into this school. Hopefully we will all get in at some point and be classmates.
