What Are Some Of Your Recommended Resources For The Ob/gyn Clerkship? For The Shelf? I Couldn't Find A Thread Already Discussing This So I Thought I'd Start One!!!🙂

1. PreTest for questions - There were several questions from PreTest on the shelf

2. Case Files was really good and HY OB/Gyn.

I was on GynOnc and didn't have much time to read so I found the above books helpful.

i agree 100% with pre-test and case files. i also liked blueprints for this particular rotation. i thought it covered most of what you needed for the shelf.

I disagree - I think pre-test is by and large loaded with crap you don't need to know and I found it pretty worthless... like that entire chapter of ultrasounds was completely unnecessary. My school had a website with ACOG questions, but I think you have to log in to get to it. Blueprints is key - it has everything you need to know. I'd recommend doing the questions in the back of blueprints.

OB was my first rotation and my first shelf, all I read was blueprints and case files and honored the rotation. Blueprints shines above all else in ob

so you found it worthwhile to do case files and blueprints? i thought for other rotations they were usually 1 or the other. thanks in advance

Blueprints, Appleton and Lange OB/GYN Q Book, and Beckman's if you're really interested (best medical text I've read during medical school).

Shelf: Case Files -- I would have been killed on the shelf if not for this book. Blueprints was woefuly inadequate.

I liked Case files and Ob/gyn secrets. Secrets had more info than needed for the test, but it helped alot with pimping, especially in the OR.

It worked for me and it should work for you anless you cant hack the tactic!

Don't use Beckmann - too much fluff, not enough substance, questions in the back are useless. Lowest useful facts/number of words ratio I have run across

Case files are decent.

Noose, knife, shot gun, and gas mask. All are essential... trust me, you'll want to die, the question is by what means.

My biggest suggestion for OB/GYN would be to kill yourself right now so you can get out of doing the rotation.

I wish I would have gotten this advice two weeks ago - I've only done clinic duty thus far and wish I could just stab my eyes out with pencils. And, I've heard it only gets worse on L&D ... the depression is setting in already 🙁

I was going to say this myself, but you beat me to it. This is the most miserable rotation I have ever been on. Everyone bitches at each other, and expects the students to do all the work. Best of all, there's no teaching! I'm tired of catching babies! It's disgusting and the novelty wears off really quickly.

As for the OP, Blueprints is what I recommend. However, I find the material to be completely uninteresting. Ah screw it...fake an illness to avoid this rotation at all costs!

Any opinions on the High Yield Ob/Gyn book? I was thinking of a combo of Beckmann's text, High Yield, and Case Files...would that work or do people think Blueprints is better? I've heard lots of good things about Beckmann and that it is easy to read, which is why I am leaning towards that.

I would appreciate any more opinions!

P.S. why on earth am I so motivated at the end of 3rd year? I think I need to get myself checked out one of these days... 😳

theres an SAQ book, obstetrics and gyne recall,from lippincott, that was all i needed thro 3rd and 4rth year rotations
