Verizon ftw.

Verizon is good too. I've had Sprint since I was 16 (I'm 24 now) and have always been happy but if I didn't have Sprint I'd pick Verizon. Verizon seems to have better rural coverage ( I learned that by driving trough BFE Nevada several times)

Yeah I can imagine. Verizon has the best coverage IMO. My girlfriend has Sprint and seems satisfied now, but the last place she lived at didn't get good coverage. When visiting I had to text her because she would never get the phone calls.

How's your coverage inside NSU? The students we talked to had AT&T and said they never had service.

Coverage isn't that great, and I have Verizon. Haven't met anybody that has good coverage in HPD. We connect to the WiFi at school or use other means, like iPads.

Good to know, thanks. I might need to switch when I start school.

Yeah. We're looking to switch to Verizon because our tmobile coverage now blows, and Verizon will probably be equal to or better than any other carrier wherever we end up going for school.

Hey not to get on topic too much, does anyone know if schools have a time limit on how long ago you took your pre-reqs? I mean, if you took them 10 years ago, or even 20, will they require you to retake classes?

Some might. They'll probably not interview though so I dont think you need to worry about it.

What do you mean they'll probably not interview? They would be applying next cycle. This guy is just over 50, and has been a chiropractor for nearly 20 years and would now like to pursue osteopathic medicine. I'm just trying to help him figure out his options and thought I may start here.

I think MedPR thought you were referring to yourself and was just saying you're fine if they've given you interviews.

But then I remembered you're not that old

Yeah, this isn't one of those hypothetical situations that's secretly about me. C'mon guys, I'm not that covert, am I?
So then, what will schools think about this friend of mine. Opinions?

People like this consistently get into med school. Its not common because its not common for them to try...but, with a related work history, a decent MCAT and good PS/secondaries, Im sure they can get in somewhere.

I personally think it would be a good idea for them to take a semester of science courses at a CC somewhere for application and preparations sake though.

I think your friend should contact schools individually just to be safe.

Yeah, I still have no idea what kind of a gpa we're talking about here. He has all his transcripts on hand so we just need to sit down with my handy little gpa calculating spreadsheet and try to figure it out. I just didn't know if the schools would require him to take gen chem and o chem and physics etc all owe again since its been so long, or if they mostly care that he has a current MCAT and extracurriculars and good PS and all.
Thanks guys

Retaking pre-reqs will make MCAT much easier. I retook both semesters of gen chem at a community college the summer and fall before my mcat retake and I was destroying aamc gen chem questions. It will help him get used to being back in school too.

I'll have to suggest that to him. It's tough because I kind of think he believes it should be easy to get in since he's been a chiropractor for so long. I think I'll suggest a practice mcat with no prep, maybe the result of the practice test will shock him into deciding to brush up with some local state college classes. Lol

Oh boy. A high school student who has taken chem/physics has a better chance than a chiropractor.

I don't think so. For chiropractic school he was required to take the same pre-reqs, gen chem, o chem, physics, he just took them all longer ago since he's a non-trad

I feel like freshness of info is one of the most important things though. I can't imagine getting >25 on the MCAT if I took it right now.

Oh I totally agree. And in that sense, a recently graduated high schooler may do better, possibly, on the MCAT. I was mostly correcting the apparent belief that a chiropractor doesn't take any real science classes. I don't know if that's what you meant, and I'm not upset, I'm the dude after all. 😉 just clearing up possible misinformation.

Oh that's not what I meant at all. I'm sure a physician 20 years into his/her practice wouldn't do well on the MCAT either.

Oh yeah, like you said, I don't know that I could take it now and match the same score I got. Maybe I shouldn't say that too loud in case any adcoms are lurking in here before deciding on my app after an interview! :scared:
I got before.

Sorry to get back on-topic on the off-topic topic of smartphones...

But my wife's getting the iphone 5. I'm on the fence. We both have Iphone 4s right now and I'm just not impressed with the new iphone 5. I love the Iphone, but thinking about jumping ship to the Galaxy S3 or the Note 2 when it comes out. Loving that huge screen... but I know nothing about Android.

Realtalk.

This is what I don't want. I don't care how much you hate the company, but they make successful, easy-to-use products that appeal to many people. I only want objective opinions (which I know are few and far between).

hehe,, yeah i am guilty of this war.... i am sure they are both great machines,,, seriously,,, so the only reason why you would choose on machine to another is your loyalty and liking what those companies stand for. but seriously, they are both great machine. personally i like mine big. bigger the better so i can watch videos and check my calendar comfortably and even read off it at a comfortable distance. also i love samsung's swype way to type. you don't have to lift your finger.

don't be afraid of the new

What are you going to use it for? Which one you want depends on what features u will use and what appeals to you.

I've played around with iphones and they are pretty up there. But in my opinion, you should go with the Galaxy S3. Iphones are pretty overrated in that every other person has one. Go with something new and fresh. My brother recently upgraded his contract with Tmobile and got the S3. The screen is amazing and the Android OS is really fast.

I like apps, especially getting apps for free (jailbroken iphone). I like to tinker with my phone and customize it how I want (again, jailbroken). I don't watch many movies, but I do browse websites often. I use my iphone as a mobile hotspot at times when the Wifi at school sucks. Also use my phone as a GPS.

I hate lag. I get annoyed with even minor instances of lag (this happens on the iphone too when I have too many apps open in the multi-tasker).

I'm thinking of going with the Note 2 as being able to view lecture slides on the 5.5" screen would be a blessing for instances of quick downtime instead of whipping out the Ipad (I take all my class notes on the Ipad). The only thing is the lack of conformity if I have an android phone and the ipad.. and the fact that it is GINORMOUS.

In reality, I would be perfectly fine with my Iphone 4 except that the antenna is screwy and I get a lot of dropped signal and calls (Iphone backplate is majorly screwed up; my fault, not the phone's fault). Hence the only reason why I am thinking about upgrading to something else.

I guess I'll throw my opinion in the mix as someone who has had both the iPhone and currently an Android (Thunderbolt from Verizon, their first LTE phone). I admit the only reason why I decided to get the Thunderbolt and sell my 3GS was for the 4G LTE on the Thunderbolt. I love the iPhone for its ease of use and the far superior apps compared to Androids. I might be converting back to the iPhone once I am eligible in December. Then again I might wait until the S version comes out. We shall see.

I prefer apple phones because I appreciate the ease of use, granted I haven't done a TON with android phones, but the little I have I wasn't super impressed with for ease of use.
Also, I think that things run more smoothly when the same company that designs the hardware makes the software. When you go android its true that there are more options for phones overall, but i dont really like that. I dont wanna spend a bunch of time figuring out which phones are good and which arent all that great. I've always been really happy with the apple warranty too.
I use the calendar function quite a bit and iTunes as well. Using an apple product with those is pretty much seamless.
I'm admittedly not all that familiar with android, and I bet a lot of my knowledge of what it's like is pretty outdated, but that's where I'm at.
Will be getting a early termination fee waiver from tmobile in the next couple weeks and will prob be getting the iPhone 5 with Verizon.

go to best buy and play with Samsung GS3 (android) you will fall in love

Ok so u are a tinkerer. I think android would work good for you then. You can do wayyy more customization even without root. If u get rooted (equivalent to jailbreak), you can change everything from boot animation, statusbar, etc... Wifi tether is easy to do, u can do bluetooth and usb tether as well if you want.

Google maps with turn by turn nav and streetview is best gps imo.

Lag will depends on which phone. If u get a top level phone, or new phone with jellybean os there is zero lag. The og note had some lag bc of s pen but the note 2 is expected to be lag free. The latest jellybean os which I loaded onto my old outdated galaxy s 2 has made my phone a beast, improved batt life and performance.

Imo I would wait till the newest nexus comes out. It's expected to be out b4 christmas. Nexus devices are first to get software updates and new os. Otherwise right now top phones are gs3, htc one x, and maybe the new galaxy note 2.

But some reasons to consider staying with iphone: familiarity, ease of use, existing accesories, paid apps u have for ios, and personal preference. Also iphone 5 will not have the dropped call issue as it has two antenna one in top and one on bottom, not likely to get attenuated.

Thanks. The only reason I'm looking to get a phone now is the dropped call thing. It's only my phone; my wife's phone works perfectly but it's super annoying and I can't stand it anymore. I don't know if I can wait a few months for the next Nexus phone  Maybe I'll just swap my wife's Iphone4 to my line when she gets the new Iphone5 and then wait it out.

I hate road trips.. I'm not driving to anymore schools. I'd rather pay an extra ~$150 for a plane ticket than drive 12+ hours in 48 hours. Ugh.

However, after not being able to check my email all day I got home and saw an II to Cincinnati in my inbox!
